perfect for my needs. i am not carrying it around, just use it around the house to store my tools. it sits under the sink. i have it chock full of tools, and it is loaded to the maximum. when I pick it up, if feels solid, and I am not worried about the hinges or the handle breaking.

I have included up close photos of the hinges and latch so that you can judge for yourself. I have had it for about a month, still works perfectly. I am absolutely satisfied with the build quality. One caveat, I'm not a contractor so I don't use it everyday.

I'm very picky about my tools and my tool organizers and toolboxes, and this box is excellent! Not perfect, but still very good. First, the color of the product in the Amazon image is wrong. The red isn't so faded out and desaturated. It's a very nice, fairly bright, red. I'll post a picture to the customer image gallery so people can see for themselves, but you can also look at the 19 inch red version of this box to see a much closer color representation.

OK, so, first and foremost in this review, I have to say that THE HINGES ARE EXCELLENT. I completely disagree with what is currently the most helpful review for this product. Yes, the hinges stick out a bit, but they need to do this in order to hold the lid upright, and that is well worth the trade off! Unlike almost every other plastic toolbox out there, when you open the lid to this one, it doesn't fall completely backwards onto the floor or the back of the box. No, it stays just past 90 degrees--enough to keep it from flapping closed easily, but still pretty much upright. I love this feature.

Further, the odd structure of the lid and the bottom of the box add structural rigidity and strength. I know the name of the company is Stack-On, and I know it looks like the bottom of one box would snap into, or fit nicely into, the top of another box, but it just isn't so. You can definitely stack them, of course, but there's nothing stopping the top one from just getting slid off of the bottom one. Still, these ARE very strong tool boxes for being plastic. I have one of mine pretty loaded down with plumbing tools and it handles the weight just fine, even despite the fact that it only has a single latch in the center.

Finally, the organizer tray inside the box is pretty nice--just the right depth, with some thoughtful compartmentalization, and I find this 16" size to be the best compromise between convenience of storage on a shelf or bench top, and room for common tools and other items.

And, it's definitely worth noting that this box is IDENTICAL in every way except color to the grey Stack-On PB-16 16-Inch Multi-Purpose Tool Box, Black/Gray which has 4.6 out of 5 stars and 106 customer reviews. Don't let the lesser rating of this red box fool you! It's just the luck of the review draw, so to speak. Given a few dozen more reviews on this one, it's rating will almost certainly be just as good. I also bought a green version of this box (Stack-On PG-16, currently unavailable unfortunately), so I have three of these boxes and I will probably buy more at some point. Great tool boxes!

Perfect Small Tool Box!

My 4 year old nephew has some new hand tools he was carrying around in a plastic bag. He pulled out a small hammer, screw drivers, package of screws and nails, level, wrench and a tape measure. He laid them out all nice and neat for display to show me he was ready to fix whatever is broken then he put them back in the bag for safe keeping. It will be a few weeks before I will have time to make him a custom tools box so I found this perfect one here on Amazon. I cut out vinyl letters and now this great little tool box is ready to go.

I was torn between this and similarly-priced Stanley, but decided on this one based on reviews of the Stanley not liking the tapered bottom. This one is slightly tapered, too, but it doesn't affect the storage space. It's well-constructed, sturdy, and I prefer the metal clasp to a plastic one. I thought I only had "a few" tools and other items to put in it, but actually could've gone with the 19". I made it work, though, and am happy with my purchase.

Very Good Plastic Tool Box

My old, plastic tool box was damaged and had to be replaced. I could not find the same brand or model..The Stack-On PR-16 tool box was the closest that I could find. It is a good plastic tool box. The hasp seems to be sized properly for the tool box and there is a place to a lock. After receiving the Stack-On PR16, inspecting and using it, I think I will also purchase a PR-19 (the next size up: 19") for another purpose. That is, I'm impressed with the tool box and the price. It fits my needs and I am happy with it. I recommend it very highly. You will need to decide if it fits your need.

It's a sturdy tool box, made of quality materials at a very affordable price. I needed a good tool box to put tools inside my car that came in red so, it's perfect. Now I have to spend more money on Amazon for tools to put in it. Sigh..

I bought this to keep my tools in so I could find them when I need them. It's sturdy, well-made, love the metal latch which looks very durable. I have more than enough room for hammer, several screwdrivers, pliers, tape measure, nails of various sizes, etc with plenty of room to spare. I like the removable tray for small items. It's not metal so no rust, which is good because I keep it in my laundry room. This looks like it will last a long time. I couldn't be happier with it.

You can't beat the price and quality of this product when compared to other products. It's easy to use and I've not encountered any problems with pinched fingers or anything else while using this. Great for those of us who just need to store a few tools for simple handy work around the house.

It's a decent tool box, and certainly worth the money. However, If you're planning on carrying this around on a daily basis, I would look into something more sturdy. This is more for the home owner who will pull it out of the closet once or twice a month for small repairs ect.

Perfectly good toolbox, especially for around the house. A remarkable value at today's price ($7.98 on 06-FEB-14). How come so cheap? I wonder how well the plastic would hold up in frigid conditions; would it get brittle? I can't say for sure one way or the other. Otherwise, it seems altogether durable to me.
