which were fun, but a little small for competition practice

I'm a newbie to knife throwing, having started only about 5 months ago. I started with Gil Hibben Tanto throwers, which were fun, but a little small for competition practice. So I bought these. My only reservation was that a lot of other reviews mentioned how easily and soon the tips broke off. I've been throwing these about a month now and haven't experienced this yet. Maybe it's begginers luck. Anyway, these are good throwers, GREAT throwers at longer distances and don't let reviews about tip breakage discourage your purchase of these mighty fine blades. Happy throwing!

Nice Balance and Feel
by Iron Fist (4 out of 5 stars)

I've been throwing knives a long time. Like everyone else, I started out using the real cheap throwing knives like they sale at discount sites. When I got good and wanted a knife that didn't float or break, I started buying custom knives that cost around $50/knife. I was sure they were much better than anything else on the market. While good, they weren't great, and they definitely weren't worth the cost because they eventually chipped, broke, and bent like the cheap ones -- just took a lot longer to do so. Older and wiser, I looked for a middle ground, and I've tried everything from Hibben to Cold Steel. And now the Bailey Magnum Ziel 2.

I've got to tell you -- I like these Ziels. They feel very good in the hand. They are balanced, meaning the length and weight are just right, and the balance point is right where it should be -- the middle. This means it throws equally as well from the handle or the blade. What impresses me most about this knife, though, is that it has the BEST blade-feel that I've ever felt. What I mean is that it throws better from the blade. This is essential for 1/2 spin throws (1/2, 1 1/2, 2 1/2, etc.). Anyone who throws knows that these are the money throws.

The only reason I don't give these five stars is the fact that the tips are just too thin, and they will break like others have said. For serious knife throwers, this isn't a problem because the positives far outweigh this minor inconvenience. You can correct this by taking a quarter inch off the tip and regrinding the tip from the thicker part of the blade. Then, you'll have yourself a champion thrower, and it only takes a few seconds. Or, if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, then take it to a knife sharpener or metal worker, and they can do it for you for little cost. Aside from that, these knives are just as good as any custom-made knife out there. And with custom thrower running anywhere between $75-$120 per knife, the value is definitely with this knife.

Outstanding performance, quality, safety, finish, sheath, balance, aesthetics, and value!

Superb! Totally designed for the Professional and the novice. The length and weight are excellent for preventing throwing out your elbow, increasing accuracy and distance. Strategically placed milled divots and grooves are perfect for adding grip while allowing slip for every possible hand position. No matter how you throw it is comfortable and consistent. The finish is excellent, once again allowing perfect grip and slip while hiding scratches. Each knife matches the next in size and shape. There is a downside which can also be considered an upside. The edges are very thick and very dull, therefore only a perfect or near perfect throw will stick into the target. This is great for the beginner who has to be more concerned about ricochet, because they're safer, but in competition they need significant sharpening on a belt grinder to remove stock. Otherwise I am good enough that i don't have to modify them at all, as i stick them perfectly 95 percent of the time. And they stick hard! Very good quality sheath as well. Sort of an orange color tan, but way better quality than any other sheath I have seen coming with any knife set I've purchased. Better than Hibben. Better than cold steel. Perfect blend of toughness and flexibility. If you want to own throwers that you will enjoy and impress your friends, buy 2 sets of these. Excellent

the 420J2 steel used in these is not a steel that is very sturdy, though it is generally a stainless

First off, the 420J2 steel used in these is not a steel that is very sturdy, though it is generally a stainless steel. I threw these until I was tired of it for several weeks and incurred many chips and breaks especially in the points. I have a decent grinding stone, and sue to the softer steel, was able to fairly easily get these back into an acceptable shape, but again, these will crack, chip, and break. I suppose this effect could be lessened if you were to throw them into hay bales or some target less sturdy than wood. That aside, the knives are large enough to feel sturdy in the hand, the sheath is quite nice, solid leather with 3 pouches for the knives and a leather button strap to hold things in. I would buy again.

Nice sturdy knives but started to tarnish after a year.

These are decent knives that are fun to throw around. I don't have enough experience to speak to how well they're weighted or anything but, for my large hands, they do well. They're a little light for me (5'10", 175#, medium build) so breezy days caused me some problems. The leather is pretty nice quality, though I couldn't tell you if it's real leather or not.

I got pretty busy before they arrived in the mail so they sat for a couple months before getting any real use. My only complain is that, in that time, they'd already started to tarnish a bit. I'd expect rust to start showing where they're all scratched and dented but I had only thrown them into cardboard boxes a few times before letting them sit for a couple months and they'd already starting getting little rust spots all over them.

I'd have gone with three-stars ("it's okay") but I'll give the manufacturer the benefit of the doubt considering I live in the ultra-humid mountains of Hawaii.

You can get 1055 or 1075 steel throwers that will hold up much better and last you years for a third

Overpriced for the type of steel and design. You can get 1055 or 1075 steel throwers that will hold up much better and last you years for a third of this price - even longer, heavier knives at that

I've broken 90% of my throwing knives trying long bomb throws that I should know better than to attempt. This knife has held up well to the abuse and flies straight. would recommend to anyone.

These are nice, a Quarter Inch Thick, and Heavy
by Dwayne (5 out of 5 stars)

They are also long. I love this design, absolutely love it. I believe the knives are 13-a quarter or three quarter inches. They are the longest and heaviest throwing knives I've yet to own, and quite frankly the most intimidating looking ones. I love the weight and the feel of these Magnum Ziel II's in my hands. The sheath is amazing and fits the knives quite well, snug as a bug in a rug. The button snap is a bit tight at first, but after you get it secured once, it's a piece of cake after.

Not much more to say about these bad boys other than, I can't wait to throw them. I'll post more about their handling when thrown later.

For now, I recommend these if you have the extra 20-30 bucks to spend, you won't regret it even if you never throw them once in your life. They're just bad lookin toys!

One of my favorite throwing kinves
by Kyosji Kenji (5 out of 5 stars)

These have a great weight to them, making them feel very comfortable when throwing. I honestly can't decide which I like better, these or my Cold Steel True Flight knives.

Only downside I have with these are that they are only 420J2 steel, which is a lower grade steel than I'm used to. They already have many dings on the back and corners where other knives have it it, and the handle has already sliced my hand open on one occasion because a sliver of metal was torn from it. It's not bad. These type of things you have to expect when throwing knives. I recommend taping the handle on these.

They are decent. Look cool. But average in practicality. Good for rotational throws and half spins.

Honestly I don't love them. The metal bumps get in the way of where my index finger whats to rest for throwing. I grined them off on one side to fix this but the still feel slightly wonky compared to my other knives that are the same size. The leg holster is cool though.
