(UPDATED 16 Aug, 2017) Great Microwave Pasta For 1 Or 2, Quick & Easy Cleanup, Good Instructions, Us
by Stephanie Sullivan (5 out of 5 stars)
May 7, 2017

I live alone and find I use the microwave for a lot of my cooking. I use the microwave for steaming veggies, rice, and now with this simple tool pasta! The Fasta Pasta makes microwave cooking pasta for one much easier. When I want pasta it's quick and easy and the draining lid means a little less cleanup.

It is just the right length for grocery store spaghetti/linguini. There are holes in the top for measuring one or two portions (it will cook up to 4). There are lines on the side help get just the right amount of water for 1 to 4 portions. All well thought out for the microwave cook. The 1 page brochure includes example cooking times for different types and portions of pasta and also warns that you will likely need to make adjustments for your own microwave.

In my case I cook gluten-free pasta. There are lots of brands and tastes differ so another may be your first choice. I cooked a mainly rice GF fettuccine and using the guidelines in the brochure it came out great.

The lid is used to measure portions and as a sieve to drain the cooked pasta. It is NOT used during cooking! This was not obvious to me before reading the instructions which are short, sweet and worth reading.

Measure pasta (place in bottom), add water to the line for your number of portions, pop it into the microwave for the appropriate time, put on the lid, drain and serve. Easy Peasy!

Cleanup was very easy and I recommend that if you don't wash it right away, fill it with water and a couple drops of dish detergent. When I do this cleanup after eating is quick and easy. I use my hands, not a dishwasher, though it is top-shelf safe.

In conclusion, I didn't expect too much from the Fasta Pasta and my expectations were thoroughly exceeded. It is clear they designed in with clear thought about how it would be used. From the water lines, pasta portion holes, strainer or simple directions it's designed with the microwave cook in mind. Most of all, my results have been excellent and very tasty. That a 5 star performance in my cook-for-1 kitchen.

UPDATE 16 Aug, 2017:

I used my Fasta Pasta last night for GF angel hair pasta and then mixed in some pesto after it was done. Usually I'm cooking for just myself and I have been loving this easy to use and clean pasta cooker more and more. Before Fasta Pasta I only made pasta rarely and now I enjoy it several times a week.

The Fasta Pasta is quick, precise (one or two serving size measuring holes in the top) and easy: just how I like things. Since I've adjusted timings for my microwave my results are consistently excellent and that's the bottom line for me. Fasta Pasta is still is exceeding my expectations!

One thing I found out with the Fasta Pasta is there is very little water to pour off when done compared to using a pot on the stove. The water measurements are pretty precise and when done there is very little extra water used. Another plus for me.

A TIP: I found helps save time is as you've dumped the pasta from the Fasta Pasta rinse and quickly wash the lid and the bottom. When I let it sit till after dinner the pasta residue has started to stick to the plastic much more. This turned out to make cleaning the Fasta Pasta even easier.

Great pasta cooker! Follow instructions!
by Paul W (5 out of 5 stars)

This is an excellent, easy way to make pasta, taking just 12 minutes in the microwave for a serving. It's true that 12 minutes seems longer on microwave time than it does when you're busy making the pasta the traditional way, but in reality, the time is cut in at least half when you take into account waiting for the water to boil. It's important to follow the instructions though and not use the lid in the microwave. Doing so won't hurt the product; it's simply that the container and lid will be just a bit too hot to handle when draining the pasta after you remove it. I found this out the hard way when I dropped my serving while trying to drain :). The cold lid, however, lets you pick up the container and it drains extremely well, pour into a bowl and it's perfect-cooked pasta every time. The measuring holes also keep me from eating too much, or wasting it. A serving is perfect, and lets me know exactly how much I'm eating.

Just one or two minor drawbacks that, in my opinion, are not worth taking away a star. First, of course, you can't really add sauce halfway through cooking which makes a difference between good pasta and great pasta. Second, some people like to add salt to their pasta water to enhance flavor. If you do, you may need to cook it a bit longer than what it says on the guide, because salt, of course, raises the boiling point of your water a bit. But for what it's made for, cooking pasta quickly, easily, and with minimal water and pot/strainer use, this is a really great product!!

Awesome!

I bought this microwave pasta cooker at a time when I did not have a stove. Even though I have a stove now, I still use this cooker for dinner for myself sometimes because it works so well and quickly! One should be careful to read instructions carefully as you must leave the top off while cooking it. There are lines to indicate how much water to put in the cooker versus the amount of pasta you intend to cook. The pasta comes out very soft and perfectly cooked when instructions are followed. When the pasta is done, the lid is used to drain the cooker of water and works very well. Pasta is the only thing I have cooked in this product, but there are a lot of other things you can cook in it. I highly recommend this to any college student or adult who needs a fast microwave pasta cooker!

Love It!

I don't want to get all gushy over a pasta maker, but man...I really love this gizmo! I try to limit my monthly food expenditures and the Fasta Pasta helps me work in at least one inexpensive pasta meal every week. If not more. First of all, I like spaghetti -- either with normal Prego-type sauce or sometimes just with butter and Romano cheese sprinkled on. But I'm lazy and impatient and don't like things that take a long time to make, with a bunch of steps, and a big clean up afterwards. The Fasta Pasta is perfect for me. I get the exact amount of correctly-measured spaghetti; it's faster than boiling water in a big pot then having to watch and stir the pasta; the pasta comes out perfectly cooked every time; and the cleanup is a snap. No big pot; no colander; no spaghetti fork to lift out the pasta. Just the easy to clean Fasta Pasta, and a pot to heat up the sauce. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This is absolutely great!! Motor home, Dorm, or your kitchen!!

I heard about this from Cook's Magazine and since I consider their reviews valid I purchased one for my granddaughter in college. She has a microwave in her room and has meals via her Volleyball scholarship....but for those days she misses meal time I thought it's worth a try for this price. Oh my....this works great!!!! She raved and I sent another to our grandson at Stanford...then as raves kept coming I sent more to others. I even made one into a basket gift with gluten free pastas and vegan sauce nestled into it. Again....HUGE RAVES!!

This is easy to use in the micro and the cooked quality is quite surprising!!! I just ordered one for myself...why didn't I think of hot summers when I volunteer to bring a pasta salad or two. No more boiling pot facials and fuss. Micro the pasta, drain it in the container, put the lid back on and put it in the fridge until I toss goodies into it. No hot kitchen or sweaty makeup. Just saying!

IT'S A LITTLE MIRACLE!
by Winkie (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a fantastic product. I've been cooking for more than 50 years. Pasta has always been a simple, go to, dinner for me. Tending to the boiling pot of pasta was just part of the process. I've been getting "tired" of cooking as I've aged. This simple little microwave pasta cooker has simplified cooking so much more than I could have imagined. Seems silly, but it's kinda like a little miracle. No more toting a heavy pot to the stove. No more pouring pasta & boiling water into a colander. It's simple, lightweight & foolproof. You'll never regret buying this. I suggest buying the larger size to have more portion options.

2019 DESIGN FAIL!

FASTA PASTA IS NOW A FAIL!

What once was awesome, now fails horribly.

I love spag. And I don't know how to spell the rest of it so blah! But, this wonderful device may not look like much, but it has made my life so much easier and I eat far cheaper now. $10 can literally feed me for a week or more.

UPDATE

I lost the one I bought before. It was awesome. So I bought a new one this January 2019. It's different. Thicker. The foam comes out the top lots more. Makes a mess. While it still works, and I will continue using it, this version doesn't work as well as the one I had. And the lid doesn't snap on like the older one.

Update: After daily use since I bought my second one, it's started getting an orange tint. The first one never changed color. The top doesn't fit snug. The first one did. If you check the lid and the bottom, and you don't see a "1", then yours will likely fail like this second one is doing. My first one had a "1" on the lid and bottom. This one has a "2" on both parts.

I had to spend an additional $20 on a large microwave platter for this newer one to drip in. Most of the water pours out the sides. The spaghetti comes out rubbery. One end all sticks together.

The first version cooked the same spaghetti flawlessly with no mess. Not version "2".

This isn't what I paid for. And TBH, if I knew where the bottom of version "1" was, I'd throw this garbage away.

FASTA PASTA IS NOW A FAIL!

You'll get your "5-STAR" rating when/if I get what I paid for.

Loved it since 2012

Just finished making some macaroni salad and thought I would take a minute and submit a review. I've been using the same Fasta Pasta cooker since 2012- pretty much every week - and it's still in good shape (I have always hand washed it - easy cleanup).

It is one of those rare products you will always be glad you bought. Never fails to do a great job. There is absolutely no difference in the end result between this cooker and pasta prepared on the stovetop. Just follow the timetables and adjust accordingly if you like your pasta a little softer than al dente. My preference is to use plenty of water (up to the top line).

This Fasta Pasta method is much more convenient and energy efficient than stovetop pasta preparation. I rate this item as a kitchen necessity along with our Nesco electric pressure cooker, electric skillet, and Cuisinart tabletop convection oven - tools that give great results and don't heat up the house.. (oh yeah - and the Cobb grill - which is fantastic! 8 to 10 charcoal briquettes and that's all it takes for a whole chicken. Start it and just walk away for a couple of hours - amazing little grill..in a class all its own - wish Amazon carried it and the Cobb accessories like they do the Weber products) Maybe someday.

Shockingly Easy to Use
by Tamara Thorne (4 out of 5 stars)

Cooks Illustrated recommended this American made microwave pasta cooker and, boy, was the magazine right -- this is a fantastic way to make pasta. No need to do a big pot of boiling water, no need to carry it to the sink to pour through a colander and worry about dropping the pot or having it slip. With this, you just measure the pasta using the holes on the lid for 1 or 2 servings (which can double for up to four servings) fill it to the water line, and put it in the microwave. We haven't had under- or overcooked pasta since.

You microwave with the lid off then put it on to drain the water out through built in slots. After it's drained, I just add cold water through the measuring holes and drain it again and it's ready. It's quick and easy to clean up and you can, according to the website, make vegetables and other things in it - the plastic-like material it's made out of is safe around food and microwave friendly.

I normally (in a big pot) make a whole package of spaghetti noodles but four servings in the Fasta Pasta are about 2/3rds of the package. I wish it was able to hold the entire package. We simply cook the rest of the noodles the next day and add them and we have our beloved leftovers dinner and a couple of lunches, as usual. If there is a larger size, I'll be purchasing it, but this is truly so easy to use that I can't ding it down to four stars.

Not having to manhandle the big pot of boiling water has changed our habits, making it easier to have spaghetti and other noodle dishes more often. We almost never made lasagne until now because the noodles were such a pain, but they're much easier with this cooker.

There are pretenders made in China - hold out for this American version. The price is great, too. I'm all about ease - easy use, easy clean up, easy storage. The Fasta Pasta has it all. Highly recommended.

After quite a bit of use, I'm knocking this down to four stars - it works beautifully, but why can't it hold a whole one pound box of spaghetti? We have to cook the rest of the box as a second load of pasta. And some spaghetti pasta, like Barilla's, are a tiny bit longer than other brands so it doesn't fit quite as well. (I wouldn't take a star off for that because it doesn't harm it, it's just annoying.) Still, even with the size hassle, I'd buy it again. It's that easy to use.
