Was originally super excited for these to give as gifts but when they arrived, the paint jobs on the figures were not very good. The animals are almost unrecognizable, I was extremely disappointed with these.
Adorable! Used a lot of tips in the comment section...

Unlike a lot of complaints, mine came unbroken and unscratched! It is ceramic and appears to be painted by hand and glazed! From reading the reviews, I took some preemptive measures to help the planters:
- I used double sided thick mounting tape (not double sided scotch tape!) and taped the tummies of the animals so they would stick to the cups.
- I used a small plastic cup, which isn't heavy enough to support the weight of one animal, but it is perfect when I used two and put one on each side.
- I put the sponge in the cup and then put potting soil on top of it (my mother in law recommended it because she feels the sponge would be inadequate for the seeds to sprout) then put the seeds on top. I put in a little water into the soil to jump start the process.
I just received it so I'll see if anything sprouts! At the worst case scenario, nothing will sprout and I'll simply go to the garden market and buy some new seeds and soil and try again.
Knock off

The product was a knock off version of the ones I have seen at a local store in Seattle (the ones at the store are slightly bigger). They do not hang onto the cup as shown in the photos, the paint was not glazed as seen in photo, straw does not suck up water (seeds never grew), and instructions were in another language.

I thought they were great. I didn't have any issues with them being dirty or unrecognizable. I mean, the paint jobs aren't great, but its typical Chinese kitsch which has its charm in itself.... I wasn't expecting them to be detailed. I bought the item twice, I gave some out to my co-workers for their desks and kept the rest for my kitchen window. Seriously... you get FOUR of them for under 20$.... for the price its totally worth it.
Cute but that's about it

I was so excited to get these but now I am wishing I had not wasted my money. The animals are just as cute as the pictures say but there is not a single glass or bowl in my kitchen that they will stay on. Everyday one of them falls off onto the counter and I am surprised they have not broken yet. The straws do not seem to suck up water to keep the soil wet at all and it was nearly impossible to get the dirt discs to fit properly and plant the seeds. A cute idea but not well executed. If the animals would stay put on the side of the glass or bowl I would be happy but so far these have done nothing but create a wet dirty mess on my counter

Very cute. But my plants grew for a week then died. Container is too small and they over water themselves.

Cheap quality, cheap price. Do not waste your money unless you want a cheap toy.
Adorable and high quality!

These are the cutest little things ever and extremely high quality for the price. I was surprised they were so nice. I bought them as a gift so I can't attest to whether or not the herbs grew. They look even better in person. They ceramic animals are sturdy and well-made.

my problem is getting them to stay on the rim of the glass--they are easily knocked off.
