Defective Remote - No Music

I am a huge Star Wars fan and was very excited for this product. I got everything plugged in and set up and discovered my remote did not work. As a result, the Death Star tree topper was only able to work in standby mode. Without a working remote you get no way to play music or get the lighting effects. Now I either have to return the product and go through the entire return/order process again or I have to troubleshoot to figure out if the problem is the product, the remote, or the batteries (all of which will likely cost me either time and/or money). I'm sure the product is neat - when it works...
Defective, only bottom lights up.

Was very excited for this tree topper. Was extremely disappointed to find upon plugging mine in that it was defective. Only the bottom half lights up. When I use the remote then I get the music, but it is clear the lights in the top half of the ball are broken and some of the light from the bottom half radiates into the top shell and you can actually see the cracked lighting effects underneath. I noticed this is 2016 edition so seems like the defective ones are being resold from last season. I have already started the process and I am returning mine. Waste of time and money.
Awesome treetopper beware of possible used items

We're avid Star Wars fans and this is awesome but lost stars because of the packaging (see below). When we saw this item at Hallmark we knew that we had to get it but since our house was under construction we weren't in a rush to grab it for 2018 xmas. We had hoped that it would go on sale since it was retailing for $100.00. That didn't happen. I have been eyeballing this on Amazon to see if it had dropped it price and finally decided that I didn't care and we had to have it for 2019. I buy tons of things from Amazon and normally nothing is wrong with the item. Occasionally, it gets damaged in transit. This is the first (hopefully only) time that we've gotten a previously bought and returned item. I have attached pictures of what it looked like when we opened up the box. It was already suspicious because when we were turning the box around to see the different sides we heard noises like there was something loose ok the inside. I had to immediately check to see if it was working. Initially I thought it was broken because I couldn't get it to play any sound but I discovered that there were not batteries installed in the remote. I luckily ordered another hallmark treetopper and used those batteries so I could test it. It works! It's so awesome, were very excited for xmas this year so we can deck out tree out with Star Wars themed ornaments and we even got a tree skirt. Huge disappointment in the packaging and it would have been nice to have some sort of warning that it could possibly have been a return. There was no tape on the box so someone should have checked to make sure everything was there and repackaged it so that it looked semi decent and not the mess that I opened it up to.
Why does it only partially light up when it's just sitting there?

When I first plugged it in, I noticed that only certain parts light up and what does light up doesn't appear to be in sync. Using the remote however causes everything to light up and flash as they are supposed to like I've seen in videos so why does only part of it light up when not using the remote? I'm not sure if it is defective or just designed that way as I've seen the same thing in other videos. If it was designed that way then it was definitely a poor design because it looks awful. It makes it look like some of the lights are burned out though truly they aren't since they do work when using the remote. For $100 I'm just not impressed with this. Edit: Just to clarify it's the section to the right of the cannon (if you are looking directly at the Death Star), the entire back, and the middle band just on the back that does not light up or just stays dimly lit while it is just sitting there. The rest of the lights on the Death Star pulsate and change color (mainly the front top left of the cannon and the front half of the bottom) and the band in the middle randomly lights up and appears to move side to side on the front half of the Death Star though the timing seems off as it is not a smooth transition. Pushing the button on the remote does cause the sound and all of the lights to activate as they should so that part is great and why I'm not giving it only one star. I've checked other videos that people have posted and I've seen the same thing with their Death Star tree toppers so it doesn't look like it's defective but more of a poor design. They did great designing the lights to flash with the sound but should have spent more time on the design for the lighting when it is just sitting there as that is what it ends up doing most of the time.
Power cord NOT included

The tree skirt itself is cool. What is not cool - not including the power cord needed for the product. Hallmark is greedy. Paying 70+ dollars for something that is advertised as light up etc and not including the power cord in purchase (fine print after 10+ paragraphs) is pretty disappointing.
