Fantastic Mirror
by The Gardener (5 out of 5 stars)
July 8, 2013

I drive a 2012 Honda Odyssey; it's a long car. I am able to see through the windows of the 2nd and 3rd rows of seats, and of coruse, the actual rear "lid" window - no more blind spots. Insallation is quick. The mirrow has an excellent spring-loaded system and easily snaps in place and does not cover any important buttons or sensors on the car's original mirror. The mirror gives a sharp picture; and while it is very wide, it looks natural and attractive. It takes about 2 hours of driving to get used to the mirror's wider angle of view. No one who rides with me has even made mention of the mirror's physical width. Make sure you follow the instructions that come with the mirror, especially adjustments to the left and right in order to be able to see traffic through the back/side windows. In addition, whether you wash you car yourself or take it to a commercial car wash, make sure to check that the mirror has not been moved by the cleaning. It would be wonderful if the auto industry adopted a mirror just like this on all cars; I think it would cut down on a lot of accidents.

Simply the BEST. MUST HAVE car accessory - No more Blind Spots, including blinding headlights behind
by Kiyo M. (5 out of 5 stars)

I can't believe I've been driving all these years without this mirror! Once you use this, you'll never want to go back... I feel naked without it.

I was really skeptic about purchasing this and thinking it was gimmicky or make things difficult/sacrifice things looking smaller to gain wider view, etc. but after receiving this and trying it out myself, I absolutely LOVE this thing.

It completely changes the way you drive - it is MAJOR advantage. It is like gaining special vision powers/cheating for your car. I think most of us have experienced where some cars just continue to keep driving RIGHT ON YOUR BLIND SPOT and you get some close calls... don't you just HATE when that happens?!

This mirror REALLY eliminates those blind spots. There have been so many occasions where I notice the cars in that area and I can ALWAYS make safe lane changes without hesitation now, even on those gridlock crazy freeways. Every second counts! I feel like a speedracer, as this mirror is supposedly also used by professional racecar drivers.

It really takes out the guessing work. When you first get it, there is a slight learning curve and getting used to it; cars will look slightly further away than your standard mirror than you're used to, but you will learn to adjust and feel the difference. You may not see the driver's face SUPER UP-CLOSE like before (who wants to see that anyway unless they're gorgeous!! ok sorry, I don't mean to be shallow), but the advantage of wider view is far greater.

Follow the "ALLVIEW PROGRAM" where if you see the cars behind you fit all on the back window, then you can safely change lanes; if part of the car in the next lane is past the side window, then you shouldn't be changing lanes. Although, from what I have seen and estimated, you could actually get away with changing lanes if the car is just slightly inside out of the back window and onto the back side window; you have some cushion if they're not going fast and you signal and they aren't one of those jerks that speed up or not let you in. The package/box (the design looks a bit outdated, including their website too - looks like they're stuck in the 90's) explains how it all works.

You need to adjust it so that only part of your head shows in the mirror; it shouldn't be showing your eyes.

This seems to be the same product as this listing here (for some reason, that stock/galley picture has SMART on that one, but I'm sure it says ALLVIEW instead); the box on it says SMART (TM) on it and there is no mention of the name "Brookstone" on it, even though the product page says it is. On the top left corner, it says ALLVIEW on it, but it is not distracting to me at all. It looks like this ALLVIEW mirror has been around for years.

There were many different wideview rearview mirror to choose from costing way less than this, but I believe you get what you pay for; those use inferior mirror and has distortion. This ALLVIEW is widely known and has high quality clear glass and anti-glare coating.

Keep in mind, you still should check your side mirrors look/use your peripheral vision if there is a car RIGHT NEXT TO YOU; also, when backing up out of parking, you should still turn your shoulder and look directly.

I have not noticed any vibrating, but my car is pretty stable; your mileage will vary depending on your car - if your car vibrates/shakes a lot usually from normal driving, then you may have a different experience.

I use sunshades in my car and because this rearview mirror is longer, I can actually rest it on this thing (although I'll have trouble completely securing the corners)

Pros:
- It really does ELIMINATE blind spots and guessing work
- I LOVE the ANTI-GLARE coating; NO MORE BLINDING HEADLIGHTS in your face, especially with those cars with those annoying blinding xenon lights or monster truck right behind you - I look at my standard side mirrors and the headlights blind me, but when I look behind with this Allview Mirror, it totally eliminates the blinding lights too; I can even look directly into the lights and it doesn't blind my eyes - major bonus for me!
- Nice glass - so much nicer and cleaner/clearer than my stock mirror; it's an upgrade in so many ways!
- Easy to install/remove (clips on)
- No crazy distortions

Cons:
- Will block your sun visor (For me, I can actually pull it down, but it will block the blind spots in the mirror, essentially making it a standard rearview mirror)

If you're willing to adjust and make some minor sacrifices, then this mirror will become your new best friend. ;) It is a pleasure to drive now with this addition to my car. No more getting honked at or surprises (except for mad crazy drivers... can't do anything about them)

Happy, safe driving! ^_^v

For Toyola Corrolla LE 2012
by J (5 out of 5 stars)
December 19, 2018

I have a toyola corolla and it's not the biggest car and i noticed that the rearview mirror that originally comes with the car is tiny. I removed the back seat head rests (of course if someone is in the backseat I would replace it to prevent wipelash in a car accident) and still I found that it's hard to see cars behind me and my blind spot, especially on the highway.

The allview mirror fits snugly and exactly and is easy to install, no screwing on of anything. I don't know why people say it's shaky, maybe it depends on the car, but I have driven around 80-90 miles on the highway and the mirror works fine and doesn't shake or lose visual acuity. Images come out quite clear and crisp.

As to the sun blocker visor, I found that I was able to still lower my visor but of course I can't lower it all the way, but this is sufficient to block the sun, and it won't affect the position of the mirror as long as I don't touch the allview mirrow with the visor. However, it blocks the allview mirror and it just looks like your normal original rear view mirror.

The best part of this product is that it allows visibility of your right sided blind spot. However, I still look at my side mirrors for double confirmation.

It's also very long horizontally but still slender and sleek.

This product seems superior to the other cheap ones mentioned.

Great tool for safe driving!

I drive Lexus SC 430 that has small window panes and maybe even small rear view mirror. Before I got this product I was always worried about changing into the right lane because I felt like I was practically doing a blind lane change. This mirror has been truly a blessing as now I don't have to second guess whether I am really seeing oncoming traffic or not. It really does make me feel confident that I am seeing practically all incoming traffic- even helps me back out of parking spaces when a large car parks next to me and I have hard time seeing oncoming traffic to back out of my space. It doesn't work with all rear view mirrors but there are 2 prongs that you can pull out to extend reach capacity so that it hopefully can clip onto your rear view mirror. I got one for my dad and he also loves it!

A MUST have rearview mirror
by Krista (5 out of 5 stars)
December 6, 2018

Absolutely the BEST mirror to have for anybody of ANY age! Gets rid of almost all blind spots around the vehicle. You will no longer need to take your eyes off of what is going on in front in order to look backwards. Absolutely essential to make driving safer. This will be my 4th purchase! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! First one was for our rural mail car for the USPS (making almost 500 stops daily), second was for a Ford Excursion, third was for 2001 Honda Civic. The mirror is super EASY to take on/off (slips over the existing rearview mirror). Highest quality, no distortion. Fits in between the visors in the Excursion and the mail car which is a Honda CR-V. In my little 2-door compact 2001 Honda Civic, I have to remember that the visors can come straight down without problem, but if I push the visor forward towards the windshield it will bump the mirror....not a big deal, really...it would not prevent me from buying it for a compact car. Well worth every penny, to stay safe!

I got 2 of these mirrors because I am temporarily in a neck brace and can't turn my head at all. It's a wonderful product! I have full vision to the right of my car! It's a great safely aid for any driver, and I think it should be standard equipment on every new car!

SIMPLE SOLID DESIGN,..EASY-PEASY Install,...ROCK SOLID GRIP - - Works Great on my Tough-to-FIt Toyot
by carefulShopper (5 out of 5 stars)
July 8, 2014

Works Great on my Tough to Fit Toyota Tundra.

For some reason my OEM rear view mirror seemed small in the huge interior of my Tundra. I have great visibility except for my TINY rear view mirror. So after shopping around, I gave this Allview mirror a whirl. I love the way it mounts easily & secure. The back of my OEM mirror is curved and hard to fit. Thought for sure I would have problems, but no, the Allview mirror's spring loaded grips & mounting system works great!

The grip holds it firmly in place across the face of the OEM mirror. Perfectly. And I can even adjust it by sliding it a little to the left or right to enphasize what I want to see behind me. I gave it a carefull spray of silicon under the spring loaded grips to eliminate any sticking & give maximum grip.

In the 9 months since using this Allview mirror the grip has never failed, or shifted position. It's rock solid and never a shimmy or shake. I don't even think about it now....it's become my permanent rear view mirror. Pleased as punch!

On other models of clip-on mirrors I tried they sometimes did shake,... so I put little pieces of cloth under the grips where they touched the mirror body to absorb vibration and that seemed to work. To stop annoying mirror vibration sometimes I put a touch or two of clear silicon caulk around the mirror itself. But didn't have to do any of that junk on this mirror,.... had no issues at all on the Allview mirror.

This Allview mirror is well made, simple solid design, rock solid, vibration free and stays put over the roughest roads & off roads. The weight of the Allview mirror was not an issue with my existing mirror mount at all. Plus it doesn't seem to draw any dust or grime, so it's very low maintenance. Can't ever remember having to clean the darn thing! And is doesn't look goofy but a little classy. Clip it & forget it!

Love this mirror. It extends my view around my vehicle, increases my safety margin, does away w/blind spots. At first I thought the mirror might be too wide & took me a little while to get used to it. I soon discovered the mirror is not too wide, not too large and sized the right size. It took me a couple days to get used to the extra view but not a biggie. This thing is Easy-peasy to install. Just clip, move around for best fit then release the retaining clips. Readjust if necessary.

Bottom Line: This is a great mirror I could not find locally. Good engineering, holds tight, looks cool, & worth every cent if it avoids just one accident.
I highly recommend it.
Should last a couple generations!

Very useful product, could use some minor improvements
by Jen D (4 out of 5 stars)

I installed this mirror on a 50's convertible equipped with a tiny, skinny stock rearview mirror that barely shows anything. The difference in outward rear and blind spot visibility was incredible. It's a good wide-angle mirror, but I found the angle did not distort excessively as other reviewers have found. Sure, it looks a little different from what a flat mirror shows, but if you have some sense of where your car is in space, you get used to the adjustment in depth perception pretty quickly. While the view is great, I wouldn't see it as a substitute for shoulder-checking. Don't get overconfident and risk changing lanes into someone. Still, I would rather that all cars have this kind of visibility rather than the glitchy bleepers and bloopers that today's distracted drivers over-rely on. There is just no substitute for visual confirmation, and the Allview provides this in spades.

The challenge in developing this product would have been creating a truly universal mount. The spring-loaded mounting mechanism does hang on well, but on a classic skinny mirror it rattles a bit over rough surfaces, and it can be a challenge for it to stay in the same position if you don't finesse it a little. I felt the springs could have been stronger, and they're only going to get more slack over time. On modern, chubby, technology-laden mirrors, I imagine the problem would be the opposite: the thing can probably barely wrap its little tongs around some of those monsters. I think a good solution would be to have two models, one designed for skinny mirrors and one designed for bloated ones.

Other drawbacks: the Allview is NOT "vibration free" as claimed. It's only really as vibration free as your car is. Also I would say it reduces nighttime glare somewhat, but is not "free of" it either. It's not night-dimming or anything like that, as one might be tempted to assume from the verbiage. I feel that for the price, it should live up to its claims a little more accurately. And if it won't, it should instead be priced more reasonably. I chose this unit because at least there weren't any complaints in the reviews about melting glue or lenses falling out of the housing as there were with some of the bargain-basement products.

Overall, though, I feel this was a solid purchase. Big improvement over the stock equipment, looks like the mirrors that NASCAR drivers use, provides great visibility, yet manages not to be so gigantic as to be obstructive (though my convertible lacks sunvisors, so I can't speak to that issue). I would recommend the Allview, but am subtracting a star due to the pricing and the limitations noted above.

which I love, but it has several blind spots
by Toth13 (4 out of 5 stars)

This mirror has changed my life! I drive a Honda Element, which I love, but it has several blind spots. The mirror opens up the view behind me and virtually eliminates the blind spots behind and to the side of me. I feel a lot more confident changing lanes and pulling on and off highways. I feel like I know what's going on around my car now. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I can't raise or lower the sun visors with the mirror attached. It's not a big deal because I was already using a baseball cap for when the sun is too low for the visors. In Texas that's a lot of the time.
