Perhaps the best personal blender review you'll read today.by TheKid (4 out of 5 stars)

Here's the thing: if you're going to make a smoothie once or twice a week, or even less, this is a great blender for you. If you're trying to spend $14 on a blender that will liquify anything twice a day, slap your own face.
I bought this because I'm trying to mix in a protein smoothie into my mornings a few times a week. I wanted to see if it'd be a habit I stick with. If I fall in love with chocolate protein banana peanut butter smoothies and want them every morning, I may step up to a Ninja quality personal blender, but this is a great choice for my purposes.
So here's my consensus. If you want a personal blender for light use, this is great, or, like me, if you aren't sure the personal blender life is for you, and want to do a little low investment personal blender research, you're in luck. I mean, you get to dip a toe in the personal blender lifestyle for a mere $14. If you find you're a full blown personal blender enthusiast, you can treat yourself with your next tax return. If it's just not for you, you can put it in that weir cupboard that has all the Tupperware you can't find matching lids to.
Whatever you do, don't buy this for $14, then come on here and give a bad review because it didn't liquify your avocado pit.
You're welcome for the cold hard truth Amazon fam.

I have been using my blender happily for about 6 months. It's been great, particularly for the price (I paid ten bucks from Amazon Warehouse). One of the keys to its use is to remember it doesn't have an on/off button but a pulse button. It's not meant to be run for long, unbroken periods (think of what the human "pulse" is: on, off, on, off). I expect pulsing is the key to not frying the tiny motor. Because the cup is plastic, I avoid using any greasy or oily substances (like peanut butter) because plastic just doesn't clean up the way glass does. Also, the bottom is not removable but all of a piece so it can be tricky to really feel like the blades and bottom are properly cleaned. For these 2 minor issues, I ding a star. I really like my blender.
Dec 2016 Still using regularly. I can never say I didn't get my money's worth. I don't like the lid - food gets caught under the tiny sliding part and in trying to clean under it, I soon broke it off. I also continue not to lime that the bottom blade isn't removable for cleaning. I have started occasionally running the blender with a water & white vinegar mix hoping that will clean it better (and kill any gross bacteria that might take up residence down there!).
Better than the Bullet

This blender is better than the Magic Bullet and other Magic Bullet knockoffs. It blends my frozen fruits and ice more thoroughly than the other bullets. It's easier to clean (rather than taking off different parts of the bullet and doing some switching and blah blah blah). I have been using this every single morning for a month now. I make a Shakeology shake in it every morning with ice cubes and some frozen fruits. Sometimes I add fresh bananas and some other fresh fruits too. It takes literally less than 45 seconds to use this blender. Once I'm done blending, I take the top and just drink from it. It fits in my car's cup holder. I drink from it while driving to work, and I finish the last of my shake when I arrive at work. After I'm done, I just wash it in the break room and put it back in my bag for the next day.
This is the easier blender to clean. I rinse it with water, add water and a little drop of soap, shake it up, then rinse it out. Done.
This blender is much quieter than any bullets and blender. The power might be weaker than a bullet, but it does its job way better than a bullet. I have considered taking this to work to use during lunch time because it's quiet enough, but I don't want people staring at me like I'm weird. I also don't want to break any building policies.
I have always hated using regular blenders (it might blend really well, but so hard to clean so I refuse to use it as there might be leftover particles from previous uses) and bullets (unscrew and screw and wash this part and that part). This is the only blender I like. I don't even let my mom or sister touch my blender. In fact, I keep it in my room. It fits next to the Keurig coffee machine and Nespresso Machine (I have a counter/bar in my room). The only down side is that, if I forget to bring the cup part home from work, then I'm screwed. This happened once on a Friday so I had to live without it for the weekend. I might buy another cup just for backup, but I think it's probably better to buy this whole set again rather to by a separate cup (much cheaper that way).
For $12, I wouldn't pass this deal so you should get on it before reading on with more reviews.
Perfect for a beginner, not the best choice for a serious blender.

In general, the product does what it claims to do. I put some milk, kale, spinach, and frozen blueberries to create my smoothie. The only time it has trouble blending is when there isn't enough liquid, but if you figure out the right amount of liquid, you can easy make a quick smoothie out of it. Now, remember this isnt you pricey blendtech type of blender, so it doesn't necessary blend all pieces into a fine texture, there maybe some chunks here and there. That means you might want to blend it a little longer, but the device itself doesn't get a little heated but as long as you are doing one smoothie every morning, it should not be a problem. But i can definitely see the device getting hot if you blend it for too long or for too much. Dont really think about using the cup to take your smoothie to work or school because the lids are not very sturdy so if you tilt it, the smoothie will leak out of the opening of the lid (even it is closed). When you wash the cup, it is kind of hard to get to the very bottom of the cup just because the blades are there and the bottom of the cup is narrower than the top. So be careful of the blades when you try to reach the bottom of the cup. Otherwise it's light, durable (if you are not a serious blender), and cheap!
wife loves it! - until it stopped working

Perfect size for my wife (for me I'd like to see it a bit bigger) and very easy to clean and use.
For what this is expected to do it's perfect! Don't expect to use this for much more than an individual sized shake and chopping some ice and fruit.
Update - Lasted a year and a half.
It's hard to think we did anything wrong, this is supposed to reasonably crush/chop ice and of course any fruit.
The failure isn't the motor but with the spindle shaft to the blade itself.
The shaft seems to have come loose to where there's NO torque to actually spin the blade to do anything.
It spins about as strong as if you blew on it and doesn't even mix water now. I'd expect more from something simple and I would have thought the motor would run out before the core operating item simply seems 'stripped' so it can't actually mix anything now.
I give it 2 starts because we really liked it and used it, but now it's just trash and we bought a different brand.
I didn't even look at the warranty because at 15 bucks it's not worth my time to even email HB.
Buyer beware, hope ours was just a dud.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this blender

LOVE LOVE LOVE this blender! I bought it in 2012 and have been using it all the time!!! It is October 2015 now, and 3 years later, it is still working great! I love making my smoothies in the morning in this, and everyone tells me how great my smoothie's taste! It is super easy to use, and I can travel with the top and drink my smoothie on the way to work. The lid keeps it secure from spills in my car, which is awesome! It goes through the dishwasher all the time, and haven't had any issues. I love it so much that I want to get another one so I can have extra jars now that my niece lives with me. She loves making her smoothies in this as well and drinking them on the way to her university or work! I highly recommend this product. When I initially bought it, I was skeptical how long it will last since the price was so much cheaper compared to other products in the market, and that is why I waited 3 years to write my review. It is still going strong, and working as great as it did in day one! Just make sure you pour your liquids/yogurt first before you put the fruit, etc., and it works like a charm! LOVE IT!
I liked it okay but ended up buying something more suitable... the Ninja

This is a nice product if it suits your purposes. Unfortunately, I didn't know what I wanted until after I bought this.
Pros:
Extremely economical
Quick drink prep, easy cleanup, not a lot of parts
Easy to store
Travel cup
Cons:
I needed something with a larger capacity. I was constantly overfilling and making a mess.
I found it really strange to drink out of a travel mug with a blade in the bottom.
If I took the drink with me and the smoothie dried all over the blade, no fun cleaning it.
I needed a bit more oomph in the motor since I often grind almonds, frozen fruit and ice in my smoothies.
I could smell the motor straining even with careful pulsing, and didn't want to burn it out.
After reading some of the other reviews here, I decided to follow one reviewer's advice and try the Ninja Master Prep Pro. With a stronger motor and several sizes of containers, I was very happy with it because it was like a mini Vitamix.
The Hamilton Beach Personal Blender is nice for light smoothies of reasonable size, and my sister said she would enjoy having it very much!
Update 10/27/2013: Ended up giving this to my niece when she was visiting since her smoothie maker had just died. It fit into her very full carry-on easily and she said it worked out very well for her whole family.
I ended up buying another for my sister, who also likes it very much.
It's a great gift at a great price for those people who are a little more careful than I am!
Update 2/17/14: Both my sister and her daughter still love theirs! My sister loves the travel cup feature. I would buy it again for a light duty blender if I needed something small and inexpensive that didn't take up much space.
Easy to use and clean!

I'm happy with this blender as it's easy to use and clean. Don't expect it to blend like a Waring blender that'll cost you several hundred dollars. This works great for simple smoothies with soft fruits and few ice cubes.
Good but...

I love that you can only put just so much stuff in the blender, so it keeps the amount made down a lot from a conventional blender. But, I have a few issues with this. First, you have to stand there and hold the button the entire time. If you let go, the blender stops. Also, although it has done a decent job of making the smoothies with frozen fruit (I cut the pieces up small. And I also use mini ice cubes made with the FABULOUS ice cube trays (Arrow Plastic 00055 Ice Cube Trays), it feels like at any moment the motor is going to give out. And I keep having to shake the blender and stick spoons in it so that the fruit continues to be blended. I think the problem is it just is not strong like a normal blender.
I love that it is small and takes up WAY less space than a regular blender. The container is plastic. The blade is metal. Oh, the other thing that I don't love is that the bottom piece with the blade doesn't seem to unscrew off. So, it is hard to clean. If you happen to leave it in your sink and rush out the door without filling it with water, I don't know how you would ever get the area by the blades clean.
I thought it would someone I could have in my little apartment instead of a full size blender but unfortunately, I think I am still going to have to buy a full size blender too.
****UPDATE****It is now July 6th I have been using this little blender almost every day. I bought a Ninja but it still sits in a box unopened and I will be returning it. I want to update a few things in my review now that I have used it for awhile;
1-On/Off Switch: This is still annoying but I have found that it takes so little time to blend up the smoothie that it kind of makes no difference.
2-If I put the almond milk in first and THEN put the other ingredients in, I don't have much of an issue with things getting stuck and me having to shake it or put a spoon in it.
3-I have started to use it as a cup as well and LOVE this feature as it is one less dish I need to wash. Also, as soon as I am done, I either wash it or put it in the sink with water. I am religious about this since the bottom doesn't screw off. It is really easy to keep clean so it has not been a problem.
The reason I even though to re-review this is because I am on Amazon buying a second one! I will be using it in my office as well. I can't wait. I have no idea how long this will last but it is going strong so far and for $15, how can you beat that?
Impressive Little Blender With Perfect Travel-Size Cup

I felt this was a low-risk venture given the price of the unit, and it has far exceeded my expectations. I'm amazed at how quickly items are blended completely smooth. It does a better job than my big blender, and I love that it takes seconds and I can grab the cup and go, as I prefer to drink my breakfast on my way to work. The cup is larger than most blend-and-go on the market, and it's user-friendly in terms of having a handle and opening for your own straw, and fitting perfectly in the car cup holder. Rinses easily, but also no issue with using in the dishwasher.
This is a pulse blender. It's not designed to hold down the button continuously, and it's not necessary. I've had no problems with ice or frozen fruit, but I do it in layers. (Typical approach: pulse OJ + banana, then add spinach, then add frozen fruit...whole process with about 8-10 pulses takes about a minute, including loading items in the blender.) If you hold, as I have tried that route to check the consistency of the final product, you can smell the motor working too hard and I suspect it would burn out very quickly.
I'm going to get another in case the motor goes or something happens to the cup or lid (as there is only one). The way I look at it, you pay for the unit in 3-4 uses given a smoothie with real fruit conservatively costs $4 at juice bars! So go for it!
