Product Description

This Blade Was Meant for Walking.

A fixed blade tactical knife featuring two edges and one solid piece of hot forged steel, it knows its place—clipped to your boot.

Crafted by A.G. Russell of Rogers, AR, The Sting displays one of the inventors of the modern knife industry’s attention to detail. After all, despite all his awards and achievements, he is first and foremost a custom knifemaker.

A virtually indestructible spear point blade begins life as an ordinary blank of 1050 carbon steel, similar to the alloy used in traditional Samurai swords. It’s then hot forged and precision ground into its final shape. Dual cutting edges give you twice the protection and double the attitude. We then apply a black non-reflective powder coat finish to resist corrosion in tactical environments that are as tough as you are.

Grab hold of the handle and feel how it’s perfectly contoured to fit your bare or gloved hand. Notice its heft, balance and thumb detents for grip. There’s even a large lanyard hole so you can use it with a wrist lanyard, or carry it as a neck knife. When it comes to defense, this blade means business.

The CRKT Sting comes complete with a custom nylon-stitched sheath with a glass reinforced nylon insert and a strapping option for versatile gear attachments or a clip for attaching it to your belt, pack or boot. Wherever it sits on your gear, it won’t be sitting there for long.

Strap it down and take it into any situation. It’s ready to battle with any environment.

Excellent little knife
by Kris (5 out of 5 stars)
December 31, 2016

I don't understand the negative reviews for this product, unless people have been getting counterfeit knives.

The packaging is simple but good quality. It arrived in a green CRKT box, inside the knife was in the sheath inside a plastic sleeve bag, it also came with a CRKT insert.

The sheath is hard plastic and nylon. There's a part of the plastic that extends up with a divot that fits snuggly into the part of the knife handle meant for your thumb when in use. I've read reviews by some that say it rattles in the sheath, but mine doesn't. It's a quiet and secure fit.

The velcro straps are long enough for my lower calf, some have said they're too small but they fit me fine. I haven't measured but I'd guess they're around 15 inches long. They are pretty stiff, so I plan on boiling them a bit to soften them up, other than that they're great.

The knife itself came oiled and quite sharp, it won't shave the hair off your arm, but still very sharp. This knife is meant for puncturing, not slicing. It comes to a perfect point, and the spine of the blade is dead center. It's got quite a bit of weight to it, which is what I was looking for, so I was quite pleased at how heavy it was. If you're looking for something lightweight and barely noticeable, you may want to keep shopping, you will definitely know this knife is there when you wear it. This knife is made of a strong steel, but it isn't immune to rust, best to keep it oiled to make sure it stays clean and rust free.

All said, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and will be buying more CRKT knives in the future.

Good, sharp knife; decent carring system
by Mike (5 out of 5 stars)

I buy a lot of knives and I can confidently say that it's VERY hard to find a Chinese-made knife that does not come flawed and/or very dull. I am sad that all the Portland knife companies (Gerber, Kershaw, and CRKT) have cut costs by outsourcing their production to China. However, unlike Gerber and Kershaw, CRKT has kept their quality standards high.

The Sting is a surprisingly-heavy full-tang knife that is actually forged from a solid piece of metal. This makes it feel extremely-sturdy for a dagger and very unlikely to fail with reasonable use. The hard plastic sheath is firmly wrapped in nylon and holds the knife very tightly, yet still allows easy draw. Both sides of the knife also came very sharp- able to easily cut paper and much sharper than the Gerber Mark II or Kershaw Secret Agent that I bought. The edges are ground cleanly and symmetrically, and the centerline perfectly bisects the dagger into two halves. As one would hope and expect of a dagger, the tip is extremely sharp. These should all be given qualities, but are very hard to find in most retail daggers it seems.

The knife's velcro straps work fine for placement on either the calf or the bicep. Velcro has the benefit of one-size-fits-all for a variety of human shapes, but lack the comfort of a more customized system. It can be hard to find the happy medium between it being too tight that it cuts off circulation, or too loose so it shimmies out of place. Still for the price, I feel that it fills this role just fine; more expensive, customized aftermarket sheaths and securing systems can always be purchased.

Overall, the CRKT Sting is a good value for a quality-made dagger/boot knife and certainly beats most of its competitors. You will not find another good, ready-to-wear knife of the same type at this price.

AWESOME KNIFE!!!
by Bryce (5 out of 5 stars)

I looked at a bunch of reviews on this knife before I bought it. Great great buy. It came much heavier than i thought, and the pictures don't do justice. I thought this knife was a 3 inch blade with a full tang and grips on top for the handle. I was so wrong! This is one SOLID PIECE OF STEEL EVERYONE!!! No grips whatsoever. The picture makes it seem as though there is, but that is so deceiving, a solid piece of steel that comes with a very very shape edge. Great solid steel and that's just the knife!

The sheath is its own class of awesome! comes with 3 different ways to attach it to things. The only down fall is i wear a 2 inch wide belt, and this wont allow me to scout carry it as easily as i would like because it only accommodates maybe a 1-1.5 inch belt. but no biggy, there is a lot of other options on carry, plus i could always downsize my belt!

Love this knife, Love CRKT, would most definitely recommend. Can't wait till summer to take it camping and give it a real run for its money!

A Darned Good Little Knife
by By CJs Pirate (5 out of 5 stars)
March 16, 2015

I was a little apprehensive about buying this knife in the first place. I didn't really NEED it, but it sure looked like a good idea and a good addition to my hiking/backpacking/fly fishing arsenal. First, let me say I was impressed with the quality. As a full piece of steel with a full tang, it is unlikely to separate at any time. While the handle is small owing to the size of the blade, it is still manageable. The handle has a nice big eyelet to which a safely line could be tied or, should one be in the mood, to use as a starter to tie to a branch to make a spear.

The sheath is also much better than I had expected. I had originally thought the sheath was just going to be straight nylon. This is not the case. There is a hard plastic liner within that secures the knife blade and keeps the blade from cutting up the sheath. Also, what looks like a thumb spot from the handle doubles as a non-mechanical locking mechanism within the sheath. It requires a decent tug to pull the knife out. This would certainly curtail accidental fallouts while walking or sprinting.

The nylon strap is both strong and adjustable. Overall, I'm quite impressed with this little gem.

Nice knife, patterned after the AG Russell Sting and ...
by GrecoAmericano (5 out of 5 stars)

Nice knife, patterned after the AG Russell Sting and made famous by the "Survivalist" author Jerry Ahern. Compact and handy with a nice edge. The one piece forged steel is a great feature. The sheath is tight and no worries about the knife falling out. I'm not an ankle carry kind of guy, so I stripped off the ankle webbing and used the Velcro strap to attach it to the shoulder strap of my get home bag. This knife weighs next to nothing so the additional weight is unnoticeable. It's also good just to have the extra blade handy. This isn't a woodsman's knife by design, but it seems to be a good little defense weapon and can do other small chores as needed. At this price, I would highly recommend this knife for those who want to carry a little extra protection. Very nice quality blade.

Exceptional boot knife... just know your local laws.
by Art-the-Mouse,Top Contributor: Camping (5 out of 5 stars)

Being as I do part time work in EMS, I have "boot knives" in all of my boots. This one pushes the limit a bit by my reckoning. My other knives can be explained as 'backup' cutting tools for emergencies, this one however has a singular purpose as it is dbl. edged and very much a dagger in its construction. It comes with a two strap mounting sheath with very good retention, and will stay in the sheath in an inverted position. It is a single piece of quality steel, so I don't think durability will be an issue. DISCLAIMER: Know your local laws first... For me, it was just too cool to pass up.

Must Have Boot Knife!
by Adeste (5 out of 5 stars)
March 6, 2015

This is by far the most squared away fixed blade knife and sheath combo I have ever owned. It is milled out of one piece of solid carbon steel, comes with a fairly sharp double edge blade, razor sharp tip, has the perfect amount of weight(not to light) to give it purpose and is super well balanced easily used as a thrower. Excellent finish and the sheath really makes this combo work. Excellent positive click in and retention, deploys very well. Can carry upside down with confidence. I carry horizontal belt or ankle/boot with comfort. A must have and I would not hesitate to get a second one. This blade seems a little smaller compared to others, HOWEVER, any bigger would be way to obtrusive to carry as it is designed for. This is a well engineered, competently manufactured system and exactly fits its purpose of use, good job CRKT. Foot note I carry this and the Ryan(another super high value CRKT knife) and I am good to go.

The Standard By Which Other Knives Are Judged
by Amigos con Tocino (5 out of 5 stars)
March 6, 2013

First of all, I must enthusiastically agree with every positive 4- and 5-star review this product has received. Every good thing these people are saying is absolutely true. That being said, my personal impression is that this is a very high quality blade. I expected nothing less from Columbia River and I was not disappointed. From the shape, to the materials, to even the brilliant execution of the sheath, this knife has quickly become a standard by which I judge other knives I consider for purchase or use.

The knife is all one piece, solid metal from stem to stern with no additional handle material or needless embellishments. The grip lends itself to easy removal from the sheath - but only when the user demands, of course - and fits nicely in my hand. The depressions in the handle make it easy to maintain your grip, although you should probably exercise due care if using this with wet hands as the surface is rather smooth. Understand that the description says "razor sharp" for a reason; out of the box this knife needs nothing. The blade is double edged and razor-sharp on both sides, which makes it great in a survival situation if, for instance, you wish to lash it to a pole and make a spear. I am sure this might be useful in a self defense scenario if necessary, but I don't think I should comment on that. I wouldn't want to risk having this tool labeled a "weapon" because that might make it difficult to have this shipped to your location. The lanyard hole on the end makes the knife more versatile in that you can attach a length of paracord, carabiner, or your favorite decorative key fob.

The durable, well-made sheath is as high quality as the knife it protects. The hard-sided case holds the Sting securely until you are ready to draw, and the blade returns home with a satisfying click that lets you know it isn't going anywhere. You are given a variety of carry options with the configurable, secure velcro straps. You can choose to use some, all, or none of the straps to comfortably and confidently carry this knife on belt or boot, tip up or tip down. This velcro material is some ingenious sorcery that has both the soft and rough parts of the velcro merged in each piece. I don't know how they did it, but they did it. I try to steer clear of the word "tactical" these days, because due to over-use it's fast losing its currency, but this sheath is tactical in every sense of the word. The construction of the sheath, the appearance and the materials used give it a very professional appearance. It's a sheath that could reasonably be sold by itself for what we're paying for the whole package. Police, military, or security personnel could probably carry this on the job - though you may want to check with your CO first!

The Sting is well balanced, which shouldn't surprise you. When you buy the Columbia River stuff you're paying top dollar for quality, and you get what you pay for. Although the balance on the knife is exemplary, I cannot attest to its throwing characteristics because, well, I'm not one to hurl a knife this nice. However, I have just placed an order for a second Sting to tuck away in case anything ever happens to my first one. This knife is THAT good. I'm making sure I have an extra BEFORE the day comes that I need it. I intend to get some use out of this knife and I'm willing to pay for the peace of mind of being able to take it anywhere, and use it for anything, without reservation. I wouldn't expect this knife to break, and I hope never to lose it or have it confiscated, but I am aware that the unexpected can happen. The mere fact that I'm buying a knife like this suggests that preparedness is more than just a buzzword for me. I think it makes sense to invest a little more up-front for the security of having a back-up to this incredible blade. That being the case, I suppose there's a chance I may one day edit this review to let y'all know how this knife performs when thrown.

Oh, who am I kidding. Even when I own two of them this knife is too nice to go around throwing it at things...unless SHTF and I need to, in which case I am sure it will perform like the top of the line knife that it is.

Outstanding
by Semper Fi (5 out of 5 stars)

As an ex Marine I am picky about the knifes I use. That been said, I purchased this knife for one main purpose as a back up knife that I wear on my left arm for deployment with my right hand when I go scubadiving in any fresh water body. Reason being because bullsharks can and do swimm up stream for over 1200 miles so no river is realy safe. The knife hax an exellent weight and balance to it and it's shatp tip is perfect for having a chance at pircing the skin of a shar or it's eye. I wear three of these knifes one on each arm since you never know what arm will be in a tight spot and one on my left leg with my main big knife on my right legt. Anyone who goes diving without being prepared is just giving himself less of a chance to survive incase of an attack. After salt water use I wash them out with fres water then apply some lub oil to prevent rusting. My first one of these is about 5 years of heavy use and rust free and sharp as can bee. The only improvement I can see done to this knife is making it out of even better steel but its really good as it is and for the price of the knifes its a steal si ce you can pay up to three times as much for a knife that is cheaply made with poor design rust after a few uses. The holster this little knife comes in is perfect hold the knife in place well yet you can access it in a heartbeat when your life might be on the line. This is not a general purpose knife nor is it a cheap toy, this is a tactical emergency knife that can save your life and give you a fighting chance. I am purchasing a lifetime supply before they change the design or stop making it. I love this little knife you will too if you understand it's purpose.

Great knife
by Luke Skywalker (5 out of 5 stars)
February 10, 2016

Super cool knife. Took a few minutes of playing around with the ankle holster to get a good fit. You can definitely see a lump on the size of baggy jeans if you know what to look for. I have large legs/calves and it fits just fine. Comfortable walking around.

The knife is solid heavy metal and came nice and sharp. Feels really sturdy like you could pound a hole through concrete with it. I've seen some people ask if it would be good for throwing. I've never done much of that but it feels like it would have a really nice balance for that.

One negative (which doesn't reflect on the knife...) is that it seems like it's not legit to carry a knife like this in an ankle holster concealed in a lot of places. Still, cool for hiking/hunting, etc.
