works perfectly well on 110Vby P. Barnes (5 out of 5 stars)

although this item came with a manual totally in Japanese, the pictorials made it clear what to do (mainly). you need to fire this puppy up for a few minutes before you actually use it to burn off the factory oils, like most new kitchen gadgets. we put ours on our ceramic stove top and turned on the fans to suck up the fumes. DO use the grating to cook your skewers. we made the traditional chicken and scallion yakitori and marinated it in a half and half mix of Mirin and soy sauce for about an hour. made the skewers and cooked them for about 8-9 minutes on the higher level, turning occasionally. they were YUMMY!!! not like Tokyo, but as close as we can get in Central New York. We just ordered a second one for dinner parties!!!!!!

NOT MADE FOR USE IN THE U.S.

Please note that this item is made to be used in Japan on 100 volts electricity not in the U.S. which uses a higher voltage. While buying a step down transformer for 60 - 100 bucks might allow allow you to use this in U.S., these step down transformers are big and heavy. So I'm returning mine without even trying it. I'm sure it's a fine product when used with the proper voltage. The seller should be clear that this item is not meant for use in the U.S. I will be trying the Waring Pro cast iron electric grill instead. I considered trying the Livart electric grill but its grill has a non-stick coating on it, something I'd like to avoid.
Japanese Street Food Festival / Too good to be true...

I bought this item as a household X-mas gift for my daughter's family. This combination grill has become a centerpiece for her intimate AND entertaining dining. She has done a number of "yakitori" skewer combos (Her girlfriend's favorite is bacon-wrapper chicken livers...) and prepared the "Benny-Hana" tepanaki onion volcano for her boyfriend. She is still trying to talk the both of them into trying takoyaki balls. (I suggested ebeyaki..)
UPDATE JULY 31, 2015
Remember, I bought this item as a household X-mas gift for my daughter's family? Well I must reduce the review to only two stars...
My daughter has informed me of a few problems...
(1) The heating element does not heat up enough for a good sear on either the yakitori grill or tepanaki griddle, She at first thought it was due to the thickness of the prepared menu items, but the griddle couldn't get hot enough to make a water droplet 'dance'. More heat seemed to be spilling out of the open sides than was directed to the cooking surface. Could this be a condition of the difference between the Japanese & U.S. voltages?
(2) The 'drip tray' is difficult to clean as the heating element will burn the 'drips' into the metal. Forget about filling the tray with water, it will boil away before the grill gets hot. (Heat Leach?)
(3) Maybe it is the long exposure to wasted heat, but my daughter's unit started chipping and flaking on the plastic surfaces. In fact, a near disaster in placing the appliance in a cabinet resulted in the shattering of one end when it was caught between a hip/buttock and the counter edge.
She now uses the tepanaki griddle in her toaster oven; and the useless takoyaki pan on her infrared stovetop...
