Got the extra credit

One of the extra credit assignments for my sons 6th grade science class was a potato clock. I had trouble finding the individual pieces required so I ordered this online. My son was able to follow the instructions easily and put it together. He thought it was pretty cool when the clock turned on. He got the extra credit.

Clock won't keep time!

The clock turned on but wouldn't keep the set time after MANY TRIES. It keeps reverting to 12:00 with in seconds or minutes. My grand daughter was so excited to set up the potatoes and electrodes. When the clock lit up she was SO excited but then became VERY disappointed when the clock wouldn't maintain the time set. I would like a refund or a second clock sent free of charge.

My daughter took a couple months before actually playing with this, but once she did she was fascinated and turned it into a science project testing all sorts of other foods and trying to determine what it is that made it work. This is an inexpensive but educational gimmick that she still plays with now.

My only concern is the wires are very cheap and break easily. Expect to have to strip them to get to more wire after they wear out, and if the toy gets any serious use expect to replace the wires completely. Fortunately that's about 50 cents of wire so not a big deal.

A nice project for a child and adult to do together. Our son is nine and loved the kit. We all loved that it worked (lit up the clock). Make sure your connections are secure. The only thing that I'd suggest is for the company to add a blurb about why/how it works (e.g., acid from the food/drink starts reaction with the...). I had to search online for the underlying science.

This is one of these kits that you could easily make, for cheaper, by picking up the different components at the store. I knew this when I purchased this kit, but bought this anyway for the sake of saving myself store time. I like that I can easily use the different pieces for further electricity experiments down the road.

My kids used this for a science fair they had in school. They hooked one up to a potato, one apple and one lemon! They won first place in the science fair. This worked absolutely beautifully in fact the potato was still going strong and just wouldn't die! Fantastic it has everything you need

This is to cute for words. it has been running for about a month and keeps very accurate time. The children in my daughters class were thrilled to watch 2 potato's supply power for the little clock...Who would have thought.
