It does have a nice texture and feel to itby Adam X (2 out of 5 stars)

Overall, all I can say is you get what you paid for. I've had this watch for a month now. We'll start with cosmetics. The picture shown is false advertising when it comes to looks. The interior parts are NOT gold as shown. The brush finish on the interior parts are really really rugged making it look really cheap (because it is). The leather strap is okay. It's your typical low-end genuine leather. So expect it to be worn around the slotted holes within a couple weeks. It does have a nice texture and feel to it. Going into how the watch operates, the automatic weight rotor in the back of the casing sticks a lot compared to most automatic watches. Making it useless to even wind the watch with that feature. And the watch compared to other automatics doesn't stay active really long causing you to constantly winding it throughout the day. I can wake up every morning with my other automatic watches still actively working while this specific one is dead causing me wind it up again and setting the correct time again on a daily basis. Again, overall, you get what you paid for. I personally will never buy cheap china made watches again. Save up your money and buy a Seiko.
Review of Akribos XXIV Men's Watch & Reason(s) for return of item; misrepresentation.
by Pastor Mike (2 out of 5 stars)

First, the quality of the watch is not as presented online. The original price shown was $495, which indicates high quality. I paid $85 which turns out to be significantly more than it is actually worth. Second, the watch does not operate properly, just like the bad reviews on Akribos watches reveals. When I tried to turn the time setting screw/knob, it was difficult to do and you could also feel the lack of quality compared to even inexpensive watches. Moreover, I could not pull out the knob to set the time. Finally, I had difficulty with the auto-wind function and the watch would not keep running smoothly. Clearly, this watch (and probably their other watches) are substandard and overall the product has been misrepresented by the manufacturer. The seller obviously did not make the watch. The bad reviews go back more than two years so it would be difficult to claim a lack of awareness of poor quality and defects right out of the box. Legally, to knowingly misrepresent the product over and over at the customer's expense constitutes improper business practices. Under the circumstances, I would tell anyone not to buy or sell Akribos watches. I would not even give one away as a gift. I hope that Amazon and the retailer(s) will act to protect customers from a manufacturer that knowingly continues to sell substandard, defective products. God Bless you all. Pastor Mike.
I dont love it, but I dont hate it either. Looks great!

For under $70 the watch looks amazing and has very nice attention to detail. It does get noticed, and most people are fascinated by the inner workings of the watch. So for looks I will give it a 4/5. The only disapointment I have with it, looks wise, is that the dial window is a convex shape that magnifies the watch face. When looking straight at the watch its completely normal, but at any angle, the image is distorted. I think this is probably just my own weird quibble, but I find it annoying.
One area that this watch largely lacks on is its durability. It will break very easily if its dropped on the floor, or hit against a hard object while on your wrist. In fact, the first one I ordered was broken right out of the box. Amazon took the return and I ordered a new one pretty much hassle free, other than the obvious dissapointment of having to wait even longer. So far the new watch works as expected. The automatic function seems to keep it wound fairly well, but if it goes un-worn for a day to two it will need to be hand wound. It keeps time fairly accurately, as accurately as a mechanical chinese movement can I suppose. And as long as you are CAREFUL and treat the watch accordingly, its quality is more than fine. Its just not a watch that can be knocked around. But I have full confidence that this watch will last a very long time as long as it is treated well.
One final note is that they rather disappointingly used a dark color on the hands of the watch which makes it difficult to tell time, especially in low light conditions. But otherwise I like the watch so far, and for the money, it is meeting my expectations.

I saw the mixed reviews on this watch, but liked the look of it so much that I took the chance. I am fully aware that this is a non-automatic mechanical watch that requires it to be wound to work. When you wind the watch to full you can feel there is tension to prevent you from overwinding the watch and breaking it
Day 1 - The watch arrived the day before with the packaging in great condition. That morning I wound the watch and wore it through the day with no problems. It was a little loud, but still acceptable for me since I enjoyed the style of the watch. Before I went to sleep that night I took the watch off and wound it one more time and placed it in a drawer.
Day 2 - I woke up and wound the watch to full and left for work @ 7:30am. During running an errand at about Noon I noticed the watch had stopped while I was driving. When I made it back to the office the watch was still stopped and I wound it to full again, which only required 3-4 turns. The watch then started to work, but an hour later it stopped again. I wound it to full once more with only 1-2 turns this time, and the watch worked for another 30 minutes. I tried to rewind the watch again but it was already at full.
Would not recommend this watch at all. The quality is poor and the price does not match the shody quality. Currenlty in the process of returning it.

Before I get started on the review, I would like to mention that as I purchased Akribos XXIV Men's AK499BK Slim Mechanical Watch
, I also purchased its counterpart, Akribos XXIV Men's AK499RG Slim Mechanical Watch for just under a hundred dollars each from Amazon.com. The black watch did not function correctly when I received it, and I am in the process of returning it. I plan on purchasing this black watch again. However, there are a few things I can say about the watch until I get a working model.
Image:
I've been searching for a professional watch for a while, and this watch fits the bill. It is more slim than most watches I've seen, and has a larger face than most women might like, though men probably would enjoy. The gears inside are fascinating and simplistic. Most watches I looked at were etched on the topmost gears, which didn't appeal to me, and this was nothing like those. This watch is VERY black. Of course it is obvious in the picture, but it's almost overwhelming. If dark colors work well for you, this should be a fantastic purchase.
Winding:
This is NOT an automatic or self-winding watch, which means you will need to fully wind the watch at least once a day. The rose gold counterpart lasted for 28 hours on a full wind (that is, until tension is felt while turning crown away from you).
Noise:
This watch isn't terribly loud, you'll likely only notice the ticking if you're sitting in a very quiet place or put the watch up to your ear.
As long as the watch works, 5 stars. Otherwise, taking everything else into consideration, 4 stars.
A real beauty

Update:
Anyone claiming this watch is a fake needs to provide proof. When he or she does, let me know and let Amazon know. Proof would consist of taking it to a qualified dealer in Akribos, better yet sending it to Akribos who can say for certain one way or the other.
Otherwise my original review:
It's got the neatest bubble crystal, which I didn't expect. It's a small watch, very easy to wear, very lightweight, and a helluva lot of fun to look at. The strap is gorgeous with the gold of the watch itself and the leather is so soft and pliable. This is one great little watch! And it's automatic too. Not too bad for the money.
Unfortunately the bad reviews were correct...

I bought this watch with the hopes that it would work as well as the good reviews had described, but I got one of the "unlucky ones." I was able to get the watch to work for 55 minutes through various combinations of moving the automatic winder and rotating the hands but that was before about 20 attempts where the seconds hand stopped rotating within the minute. Further attempts revealed the same disappointing results. Everything looked beautiful, it came in an amazing case too which could easily even fit three watches if someone wanted to use it while traveling, but the overall product has to be defined as a failure because it didn't do what a watch is supposed to do...keep the time.
Good luck to anyone else willing to take the risk, if you get one that actually works I'm sure it'd be one of your favorites!
As Described... But!

Arrived in good condition; however, another piece that I have ordered arrived broken (broken gears inside), and so is the case for many people ordering Akribos watches. Not sure about the reason though.

I ordered this product and received the same in a week. But the item received was defective. Its an Automatic Watch. I tried to wind/adjust the watch. As soon as I rotate the crown, it broke and came in my hand completely. I did not know what to do. I placed a request for the return, but made a second thought and did not opted for it.
Will not recommend other to buy this product from this seller.
Great watch and customer service. With some flaws.

For a chinese made mechanical watch in a low budget range it seems to hold its own fairly well. The dial is easily visible with precise, easy to read numbers. Other than a slight misalignment of the 12, 9 and 3 dials for the most part it is perfect. The band is a bit smaller than standard American bands and fairly narrow. The synthetic sapphire also seems to hold true to the name and after a few scrapes into things has been fairly scratch resistant.
It seems to use an unknown Chinese etched cover for the parts that is found in several other brands such as Armitron and Stuhrling (Also owned by the owners of Akribos). This watch mainly has the advantage of the very visible dial when compared to other "generic Chinese skeletons"
However it does have a few flaws
1)The oscillating weight is fairly stiff. It takes quite a bit of force for it to move when compared to other automatic watches. It also makes a fairly audible cranking sound in a quiet room. Sometimes it sounds as if the watch is broken. The escape ticking is also fairly audible, although again it needs to be fairly quiet to be heard.
2)Contrary to what is written in the manual; pulling the crown does not stop the clock, it only allows you to turn the hour/minute wheel, and even they continue moving. At first I thought it was a defect and a quick e-mail to the company was responded to informing me that this is part of the way this model works. This makes it difficult to assess the accuracy of second loss and makes it quite difficult to set the watch without the time being off by 20-40 seconds.
3)Winding this watch can also be an annoyance as the mechanism is quite stiff even when the watch has completely run out of kenetic energy.
