Product Description

Night owl's extended-body 5-power night vision monocular delivers higher magnification for better image resolution and more accurate identification of distant targets. Employing the latest generation of optics design technology, the NOXM50 adds extra magnification without a lot of extra weight. And more importantly, this latest optical design does not sacrifice light amplification for added magnification the way older-technology generation-1 products do. Don't make the mistake of buying a competitive high-mag device, only to be disappointed with a dark image. When buying high-magnification night vision, make sure you demand the very latest optics technology.

Never worked, can never get through to customer service in almost 3 years.

I bought this scope in 2014, April. It is still brand new in the package. It does not work as it will not focus. I contacted customer service several times and sat on hold, never got a live person.

I really wanted this item and it never worked. I really want to know if this is normal? If not please contact me or send me one that is tested and works. This is a lot of money wasted for something that will not work.

Yes the battery is brand new and a sure fire that came with it.

Please help me and fix this problem. I am a loyal Amazon customer. This problem has be going on since 2014. The number I call is 1-800-444-5994. Please send me a new working one, this one is brand new, in the box and case, no scratches or anything. I can never use it.

An expensive book end.

Save your money. After two months the IR assist stopped functioning, and the focus rings came so loose that simply breathing would make them get out of alignment. No cigar or recommendation from me.

Really Happy With My Purchase
by C. HAWKINS (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought so I could look at the deer and and other animals passing by my balcony at night. It works great, better than I expected actually. What was a really surprising bonus was how many stars you can see with this thing. There are a lot of city lights around where I live, so I miss out on seeing a lot of the stars at night. Since this Night Owl magnifies the light so much, it was really surprising the amount of objects I could see in the night sky that is worth the price by itself. I don't think you can find anything better for the money.

"For the Money" Nothing - Great Scope!
by Deidre (5 out of 5 stars)

I'm not someone who knows a lot about this sort of thing, but my dad has always wanted some sort of night vision and this seemed like a good option for the price, so we got this for him. Everyone in the reviews kept saying that it was great for the money. This thing was awesome! With all that "for the money" talk, I figured it would be alright, but we were very impressed. In the pitch black woods out in the country, not only could we clearly see the barn out in the pasture, we could see items inside the barn! I didn't think that kind of clarity would come with this price tag. My dad was tickled to death over it and he can't wait to go out in the country and use it again.

I have nothing to compare this to - I have never used night vision in my life - so take what I say with that in mind. All I know is, we could clearly see things as I described. Also can't speak for the longevity/durability yet as we just got it.

ONE WORD OF ADVICE! Realize that it does not come with and does need a rather unusual battery. That may be obvious advice to some, but it never occurred to me. I was so mad at myself, we had to go all the way into town from out in the country and come back.

I highly recommend this scope. Great gift!

It definately works well, but I had to drop the 5-star rating.

I was researching night vision for a hunting friend who needed something to see in the dark shadows after the sun goes down, mainly to study antler size and count on potential trophy buck deer. It boiled down to the Night Owl 5 power night vision. I ordered one to try before suggesting it and was pretty surprised at how well it worked. He ordered one too after trying it. With the faintest ambient light from the moon or far away lighting sources, you can see in areas which are pitch black to the naked eye. The infrared light on the monocular also works far better than I thought. Some people say they remove the battery after use because when they turn it off, it still seems to work for a while. Well it takes a short while for the capacitors to drain down after use,, but I have found that there is no battery drain by using the on/off button. Naturally you won't see police and military using this anymore due to expensive advances in night vision, but they once used this exact technology. If I were to ever need more than this, say the world goes bad, my next step would be in the $8000 range for thermal imagery scope. But if that time were to ever come, it would be mounted on a rifle for gathering food and protecting my family.

UPDATE:

Well, after a few months, it stopped working. Indicator lights work, infrared light works, but no image is produced, the eyepiece remains black. I am 63 years old and am careful with things, so it was pampered, never turned on when in light conditions, never bumped or jarred, stored inside the house in it's protective pouch. While observing deer feeding at night, I would turn it on for a while, then turn it off. The last time I turned it off, it never came back on. I put 3 new batteries in it and never lit up again. I only used one battery in the unit before it died. I have contacted Night Owl several times and they only have one lady who can help me, and she has been on vacation for a couple of weeks. I'll report back when I see how this is handled.

Update: The lady at Night Owl called me and told me to mail it to them. Sorry I am so late giving this update, but I had forgotten about it and just got a question on the night scope and saw I had not updated on the repair process. But shortly after they received it, a new one showed up at my door. Great customer service. They just need two ladies trained to do that job. :)

All most a 5

Have had this unit for about 2 weeks and its totally useless with cloudy sky's or moonless nights. But the IR works better than I expected, I can see images out to 125 yrds. I live in the country away from city lights so it gets really dark. I would recommend this unit based on the IR performance and price.

I hated this thing

I hated this thing. It had manufacturing flaws, would not focus properly, and the field of vision looked terribly limited.

A headlamp works infinitely better, IMHO.

Works pretty good, get what you pay for.

This is 1st gen night vision. It does the job at seeing in the dark and even pitch black with help with the IR light. I use it to say, "Hey, I have a night vision monocular." then screw with it and it goes back in the closet. Reviews said it really eats the batteries and before it came I went and purchased a couple of the batteries at about $4 a piece. Still on original battery but it obviously depends how often it is used.

Piece of advice that I had to do some research on: How do you change the battery? You unscrew the IR light at the lens and the battery is behind that. No where does it tell you that information. Also, the front lens and eye piece of the monocular BOTH focus. I though mine was broken until I focused both pieces.

One last thing. Use in a very large room or go outside when you first use it. It has 5x magnification. If you're looking at something across the room (normal size room) you can identify it from the magnification. It was raining the night I received mine so I was using it inside the house, not my best idea. Outside works better.

I wanted something cool and cheap, this did the job.

Now I know what is making all that noise on the side of the hill behind our house at night!

If you were in the military and have prior experience with night vision gear, you will be disappointed. I recall using my ANV-4 night scope years ago and I can still recall the vivid green landscape as I peered through the scope, and that is what I had in mind when I purchased this unit. It is not the same, not by a long shot, but then again, if you have no night vision capabilities, anything is an improvement. With this Night Owl Optics monocular, you can see in the dark as well as if the lights were on indoors, in fact, that is where we have used it the most to find items after dark when we don't want to wake grandma (who lives with us) who has a habit of taking the main TV remote control to bed with her. Not wanting to wake her, we have used this device to navigate the pitch dark room and successfully locate the remote without needing to turn on lights and wake grandma up. I have used it outside with excellent results, you just have to focus a lot more often as you turn your head while looking through the monocular at different objects so the field of view is small by comparison but it does work, it does give the user the ability to see in the dark and not too shabbily for the money.

You can see clearly and far if you focus

Had fun with this hunting. Could see deer from about 125 yards off in pitch black (just stars). If someone was within 50 yards I could probably tell who it was.
*** IMPORTANT ***

At first I thought everything was a bit blurry. I could make some minor adjustments but was very disappointed. Wasn't until the second morning of hunting that I realized a simple twist of the main part and it would focus. I thought I had read the directions but I think I was too worried about taking the cap off and turning it on in light and breaking it.
