Good buy!

Pro: I love this thing! Works great. I've had it a few weeks and used it on tons of stuff. I don't know why people are saying it doesn't cut, it cuts just fine for me. Thick plastic, thin plastic, doesn't matter. However, I believe it said it won't cut you. It probably would cut your finger if you pushed hard enough, but you'd have to try quite a bit, and I'd hope most people wouldn't do that. Haha! As far as accidentally grazing it or grabbing it the wrong way, it won't do any damage to you.

Con: The built in magnet isn't super strong. It stays on the fridge but you've gotta make sure it's flush before you let go, otherwise it'll fall.

Perfect for what I needed!

I have a medical disorder that causes my fingers to lose dexterity in cold, and in my job, I have to go into a freezer and open taped up boxes every day. I was having way too much trouble getting the tape off, and didn't want to use a bulky box cutter. So I found this, put them on my keys, and it is ready to go immediately. It hasn't cut me, and I grab my keys over and over a day (I'm a delivery driver) and have yet to be injured. I love this thing!

Nice safe little tool for small cutting projects
by Oleg Biteryakov (5 out of 5 stars)
April 5, 2016

I have been using this tool regularly for 5 months now. I use it mostly for clipping coupons (1-3 inserts per week) and newspaper/magazine article cuts.

PROS:
1) It says in the name "Safety Cutter" and it's exactly what is it. The ceramic blade is so small it's impossible to cut yourself, I think it's a great tool for children for that matter. I cut my coupons while watching TV and I am not afraid to cut myself while I'm distracted;
2) It's more fun to use and saves time compared to scissors. It also never makes my fingers hurt like scissors;
3) It is durable. After 5 months it works as great as the very first day;
4) I like that it has appealing design, soft-touch surface, small size and a built-in magnet. I store it on my fridge; it's very convenient and looks nice;
5) Great small gift for anybody, stocking staffer or basket staffer if you need one.

CONS:
1) I found it not very useful for plastic packaging; many of those packages are tough for this small cutter even with increased pressure. Maybe other Slice models with bigger blade will do a better job;
2) Depending on your ability, it's somewhat hard to make a perfect strait cut line. For my main purpose - coupons, it's not a big deal. Even though I did cut off a part of a barcode few times, which was unfortunate, but with practice, I got better. If I need precise cuts, I switch to scissors, X-Acto knife or other tools;
3) It will cut through second sheet of paper if it's thin enough. And it will scratch the surface you are cutting on. Since coupon inserts are very thin, I usually use a cutting board and make sure that there are no other valuable coupons under the place I'm trying to cut;

THINGS TO KNOW:
1) You have to hold it completely flat to the surface you are cutting or it won't work and might rip your paper;
2) EXTREME COUPONERS BE AWARE that it won't cut through more than 1-2 sheets at a time, it's not what it was made for. I'm pretty sure there are more efficient ways to cut coupons for more than 3 inserts per week;
3) Not meant for heavy-duty cutting and thick materials.

Overall, I love this tiny handy tool and I can't imagine cutting my coupons any other way now.

One of the life's necessities
by aJayM (5 out of 5 stars)

This is one of those products which you never knew was missing from your life. It cuts paper, slices envelopes, opens plastic packaging, and cuts coupons from magazines without damaging the second page, all without danger of cutting your hand.

Now the stuff they they don't tell you... There are two of them, both available from Amazon.

This green one has a very small blade which is very safe. It is better for cutting wrapping papers and coupons. It cuts plastic packaging with more pressure.

The other one, iSlice, is blue and has a longer blade. This one you can cut yourself if you tried hard enough. It is better for opening plastic packages. It does not have a hole to hang, but it has a built-in magnet like the green one to attach to a frig or something. The longer blade goes through more than 1 sheet of paper, so it is not good for cutting out coupons from newspaper and magazines.

Both work amazingly well.

Surprising cutting power!
by jevausie (5 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this item for cutting static-cling vinyl to create privacy windows in my home. The thought was that this might, perhaps, be a little easier to wield than the boxcutter that came with my vinyl application kit. While I ended up getting the hang of the boxcutter and liking the depth it can cut a bit more than this item for that purpose, the Slice has serious cutting power! You'd be surprised by how well and how much it can go through. I've long been a proponent of ceramic kitchen knives, and this still impressed me. I now use it to cut open plastic packaging, cut out coupons, and for crafting purposes with thicker papers. It's very light and easy to use, though you'll have difficulty cutting through very thick materials or negotiating curves. This can definitely replace scissors for many purposes, assuming you have a good piece of cardboard or other cutting board surface handy to put underneath, as this goes deeper than you'd expect. I am glad I purchased and would recommend this product.

Find one of the many other brands that are similar, this one is difficult to use
by G. Barry (1 out of 5 stars)

I've owned two or three other brands of this same style product. All of them were better than this one.

The cutting part of this utensil is very shallow and you have to drag the cutter very straight and parallel to the package. Most packaging does not allow this with edges, curves etc. It also had trouble cutting deep.

There are so many similar products out there, find one that isn't as exact in the way you have to use it.

100's of Uses but the Magnet is TOO WEAK!
by engineer & cook (4 out of 5 stars)
April 23, 2019

Everything today comes wrapped or wrapped and taped in a box. This cutter opens so many things so easily and so safely. No more hunting down a kitchen knife, box cutter or Exacto blade to slit tape on that box from Amazon. Opens bags of chips, frozen veggies & cereal. Neatly open bundled paper towel and TP packages. Slits open plain and bubble wrapped envelopes with ease. Clip coupons. Even opens thin clamshell packages. I store mine on the fridge so I can always find it (it is not very large). My only complaint is that magnets is so weak that the cutter falls off the fridge door sometimes when I open or close it. For $7 Slice aught to include a magnet that works. I find that the magnet is stronger on one side. But for $7, I shouldn't have to remember which side is stronger every time I use it. Sloppy design!!!

These are worthless pieces of junk...
by River Person (1 out of 5 stars)
February 12, 2019

These are worthless pieces of junk that will not open clamshell packaging or anything else for that matter. The blade does not protrude far enough to be effective. It costs more to send back the 2 I bought than to keep them. Save your money and use a pair of heavy duty scissors....

Slice safety cutter makes an incredibly useful tiny gift. Magnetic! Great price and delivery, excell

This is so amazing, and better than the red one that I got from another vendor; better than look-alikes. The cutting edge is tiny, the body is magnetic, so you can put this on the side of your refrigerator. It's very hand and easy to keep in your pocket. there is a hole in case you want to put it on your key ring, very useful! Not identical to islice, but actually seems to be more comfortable to use, better tactile plastic grip, harder blade.

Doesn't cut easily or well! Must exert to much pressure to cut.
