This electric grill sits on the tabletop. Which means it is going to reduce the amount of time it takes for babyback ribs brushed with KC Masterpiece and teriyaki shrimp kebabs to transfer from its cooking surface to... [Read more]Top Reviews
Good appliance for apartment dwellersby Kimi 45 (4 out of 5 stars)

This grill is really better than others. I've tried several others (from department stores) and find that the searing and grilling is much, much more like charcoal or gas. I can't use either in my condo and find that my steaks and vegetables are "almost" like grilling outdoors. This had the highest heat level of any others I've tried.

I was always reluctant to purchase a gas grill because of the assembly, complexity and propane tank. This electric grill is the answer to my prayers. So far I have cooked steaks, and it does an excellent job. The grill is very portable, easy to use and cleanup is a snap. I am delighted with my purchase and highly recommend it.
Used indoor for YEARS with ZERO problems.

Best thing ever. Used this indoor (in my kitchen) from 2013 through 2016 at least 3 days a week. It was PERFECT. Finally gave out one day and just came here to try to find a replacement. This thing cooked everything the exact same as an outdoor charcoal/propane grill. Grill marks, taste, everything. Perfection.

Here's the deal with this grill...
I'm an engineer and this grill is probably the most logical layout for heating elements vs. placement for an electric grill. The heat is very even, much more so then any gas grill I've cooked on. You can only do so much with 110V and 15A normal house electrical supply in terms of grilling. This grill utilizes the most efficient layout that can be achieved with that electrical supply. The warm up time is to increase the thermal storage capacity of the grill grates/bars and help with searing. It does sear fairly okay and I've cooked on it twice. Is it anywhere near what a cheapo depot Weber imitation gas grill can even achieve in terms of high temp, searing, heat throwing capability? Heck no... I cooked marinated steak tips (flap meat) on it last night and they smoked and sizzled when i placed them on. Did they taste like they came off a charcoal or gas grill. Absolutely not. I cooked some whole chicken breasts afterwards and they had some nice grill marks on them. They cooked fairly quickly too. I also own the [Sanyo HPS-SG3 200-Square-Inch Electric Indoor Barbeque Grill, Black] which takes much longer to heat up and has a snowball's chance in hell of cooking any kind of steak unless it's paper thin. The sanyo does chicken breasts pretty well but you have to cut them thin in half and it takes much longer then the Dimplex.
Was I expecting more out of the Dimplex? Definitely. I've seen videos on youtube of the other Dimplex models and for all intents and purposes this is the same grill with a different set of electronic control elements. I wasn't going to shell out $600+ for a grill just because of the control electronics and some metal shelves. The Metro 120 has the same "grill engine" as the waaaay more expensive Dimplex models have so what's the point? In the end you're paying for the 120 sq inch 1600W heating grid which is the action area of the whole operation. The energy density doesn't change with the more expensive models. Why pay big bucks for extraneous items and a display that thinks it can cook better then a good grill master? No dice...
If you're looking for the best electric grill money can buy, this is it. Does it compare to gas or charcoal? No... I have yet to try the Weber Q electric grill but I've seen the heating element in that and it looks like all the other electric grills I've seen and probably cooks very unevenly. This grill is the most even heated cooking surface I've ever used outside of a cast iron pan on a gas stove. It's very amazing at that.
I did a lot of research before I purchased this grill. It's very well built. I looked at Meco, Weber, Napoleon, The cook number, and Kenyon$$$$. It's solid and has been very well designed. The sheet metal used in the construction is much more thick then one would think for a grill like this. It weighs over 30lbs and feels like it will last a lifetime. Make sure you put foil in the drip tray. Let the thing heat up for 10-15min on "10" before you put your meat on. Is it worth $250? Yes and no. The construction and design is worth it, the performance more like $100. I'm sure they are losing money on this grill even at $250, it's very well engineered. The 1600W cooking grid is the downfall to this piece of equipment which is not the fault of Dimplex. Stupid 110V 15A housing outlets!!!

I am .. No.. I and everyone who has seen it in action is completely impressed with this thing. It takes up very little room .. I have mine on a table. But you can use the entire grill surface to cook with. Have had several bbqs and successful grill marks making franks burgers and even pizza on it!! The tray underneath slides out, line it will silverfoil And just replace when it's dirty. I bought a five dollar wire brush to clean the grill part takes no time and always wipe a Little olive oil on the grill before cooking to prevent stick. My neighbors were so impressed that they bought the same one. Plug it in when you want to use it and it's hot in no time. Love love love not a single complaint.

This grill looks really sharp, the design is good, and would be super easy to clean.....BUT......
It is HUGE, and after heating it up on high for 30 minutes, I put a small fillet steak on it, it did leave sear marks but took almost 30 more minutes to cook, was barely warm inside and I threw it out as it tasted more steamed than anything else and I was afraid it wouldn't be safe to eat.
I returned it and bought an electric Weber Q 140 locally at ACE hardware for less money and it cooks almost as good as the Gas Weber Q I used to have when I had a home instead of apartment. Plus it is smaller but plenty of room to cook for 8 people and a snap to clean.

Though lots of research to select it, did not last more than a dozen times then it started getting cooler and cooler with each use. Beware.

I'm very please with the Dimplex electric grill. The quality is everything it clamed. High heat for searing steaks, etc. I've had other brands of electric grills, this is my favorite.
