Perfect gift from grandkids to world-traveler grandparents -- we made a game of it, each kid gets to guess a place on the map the grandparent has been to. If they're right, they get to scratch it off and get a story about that trip! Then the next kid's turn. Precious stories and family time.

Bought this as a gift for a friend who's traveled all over the world -- came packaged in a vintage-y, cute tube and was delivered rather quickly. It was a little larger than I'd thought, but I think my friend was pleased with it. Will update if I find out more after my friend has used it.

I love to travel and I love maps. This is the perfect combination of the two passions. It is so much fun to come home after a trip and scratch off another country. I wish they had the United States scatch-able by state instead of the whole thing in one go. Otherwise is a great product. Sets up interesting conversations when people see it in your house.

This is fun for travelers because it visually exposes the areas where you have traveled, and gives you a constant graphic reminder of where in the world you have been, and where in the world you have yet to explore. Similar to a lottery card, you scratch off the gold coating to see the country or state underneath. It is helpful to have a standard world map for reference as you are mapping out your journeys, because there are no dividing lines to tell you where one area ends and another one begins. Would like to see a scratch map developed with boundary lines etched on the coating and the physical geography printed underneath. That would cost more but would make the product more exciting than it already is.

Bought this for a friend. She loved it. The tube it comes in is also the shipping container and it doesn't allow you to rip off the shipping label and tape without ruining the outside tube which kinda sucks. The map itself is really nice! It has a prominent border around the countries so you don't over color anything. With that being said, it is tough to scratch off. My friend was scratching off four or five different counties and it took her about 30-45 mins to do with a penny but it sure looks good when it's all done!! Because she liked it so much, I'm going to be buying one for myself!! Great purchase!

This map is fabulous. I have now bought 3 (various reasons), and I would buy more, but here are some of the issues:
1) The size is funny. It can be hard to find a frame to match it. When you are looking to buy the map, you can keep in mind that you can easily cut off the bottom 3-4 inches if need be. The stuff at the bottom of the map is pretty useless. Ie. It says 'Visiting Australia?, to which, if you were, you would scratch off the box. It then reads underneath: "Tasmania is said to have the cleanest air in the world." Not exactly something which you need to be showing off to your family and friends. You have a bit less wiggle room on the left and right of the map - maybe 1 cm each side if you had to cut it in.
2) Be VERY gentle unraveling the map, as any accidental scratches on my map came from the unraveling process, no matter how gently I tried.
3) Easter Island and the Galapagos are not on the map. If you are going to anything fairly smallish in terms of islands, there's a pretty big chance it won't be on the map.

What's really neat:
1) Not every country has the exact same colour. The colours underneath the gold change throughout the map
2) You don't have to scratch too hard to get the golf stuff off
3) You could easily add in your own islands with a label maker and some basic paint/markers to make the islands

For the Country-Bagging Traveler

While this map is in no way the most accurate depiction of world geography, it serves its purpose as a cool visual depiction of the places you still need to cross off your list.

Pros:
-Map paper is a nice thickness
-Countries in each region of the world are different colors once scratched
-Unlike some reviewers, I found the "scratch-off" material very easy to remove with a coin or other non-sharp object without damaging the map
-The size is perfect for a room wall or other location. Not so big that it takes up everything, but still large enough to be easily readable and displayed.

Cons:
-Would not recommend using the map for any navigational purposes (I don't know who would, but you never know!)
*This map does have country outlines! Contrary to some reviews that said you would need to be an expert in geography to scratch off the appropriate country, there is light gray lines over the golden "scratch-off" material. Could be an update

This is am original lucky map! I really like it, the quality is very good and it was shipped well. You must use a good eraser to scratch off the countries! It has some fun facts for some countries on the bottom to scratch off, nice touch. I like that the scratch off material in the USA is marked with state outlines, so I only scratch off the state's I have traveled to.

I did cut mine but it was my choice to fit it in the frame I picked out.
