Alien pod retracts its naughty probe!by G. Conner,Top Contributor: Guitars (5 out of 5 stars)

After seeing these over a year ago, I wanted one for the garage but couldn't swallow the $300 pill. When the price came down by a third, I bit. It WORKS! My son-in-law has a neat spring-loaded power cord hung from his garage ceiling, which gave me man-cave jealousy. Now it's his turn!
A feature I really like is how you can easily program the machine to SLOW DOWN anywhere during retraction. That prevents "cable whip" which, as all mechanics know, can cause expensive accidents to cars, tools, windows, antennas... Not this one! Its quasi-intelligent programming keeps the cable moving quickly enough for efficiency, but slow enough to prevent whipping. It looks like an alien pod from the future and makes little R2D2 sounds to inform you of its status.
OF COURSE my wife drove over the cable FIRST DAY! No problem... It is heavy duty 12 gauge wire, plenty thick enough to deliver gazzilions of electron faeries and keep them happy inside the magic electron tube. I ran both a table saw and a dust collector from the same outlet and didn't blow a fuse, so I know it manages a full 15 amp draw (or more under load) without hassles. I was too cheap to spring for their wall mounting unit, so I made a simple wall mount of plywood and painted it hideous green like Captain Kirk's girlfriends.
No question... this is overkill for my modest home garage shop, but the immense satisfaction I get by one-upping a son-in-law is worth it. Besides, I have always been one to enjoy the latest appointments for home and office. All males who have seen it think this is cool as hell. And so far, every woman that's seen it has called it "cute" "neat" or "nifty." I suppose that's as close to product endorsement as any tool will ever get from SWMBO. (She Who Must Be Obeyed!) It really works and beats winding cables by hand after finishing the honey-do list. Helps me get to the fridge faster!
How much more need I pay for an additional 10ft

I bought this product expecting to get what was advertised as a 50ft cord reel. I wonder why it wasn't advertised as a 40ft cord reel because that's what I got. I'm curious, how many buyers got 60ft instead of 50ft. Not stopping there, I couldn't get a standard three prong plug into the cord end so I enlarged all three receptacle slots. Still couldn't get power so I opened the cord end and found an o-ring improperly installed, so I repaired it. It seems to me at almost $300 these issues shouldn't exist but I'm sure somewhere in the fine print, away from consumers eyes, all this is explained as "normal". At first I gave this ROBOREEL three stars but, after reading my own rating, I dropped it to two!!

This is now one of my very favorite useful gadgets of all time. Very high quality.
Very thick industrial sized cord that is 50' and rewinds with the touch of the tip of the outlet (it has to be on the ground) or from a button on the top of the rewinder.
To control the speed that it rewinds (mainly to prevent whipping) you just hold in the button at the tip of the outlet until the unit gives a long beep. I have it set to rewind the whole length at a slow pace. It's still pretty fast and why would anyone need it to go faster I don't know.
The whole round part of the reel also spins in any direction so if it's pulled from any angle it will not tangle or get stuck. It has a built in microchip and will stop the unit if it does become tangled or held up on something or it will shut the power off in the unit if the cord was cut as a safety feature.
I've used the reel type in the past, even some of the higher quality units for over $300 and this blows them away. As long as this holds up I couldn't be happier. It also has 3 outlets with the ground (all for 3 pronged plugs but a two pronged plug is no problem) with plenty of space to plug in three separate devices at once.
Seems like the manufacturer of this product took all the problems from other type rewinders and resolved them with this unit. You won't believe how useful this product is and to not have to wrestle with long tangled up cords anymore. And that fact that this is portable (doesn't have to be wall or ceiling mounted) makes it even better. I know there is a ceiling mounted version of this on Amazon but this portable one suited my needs better. I'm mostly using mine indoors. I did however purchase the additional wall mount. It's about $30 extra and even comes with a decent quality lock to secure the unit and to prevent theft.
I have tons of useful gadgets and gizmos etc. So many good ideas out there now but most of them are junky. This one seems to be a very heavy duty quality product. Time will tell but for now I highly recommend.
retract switch at cord end failed

I bought this at SEMA two years ago for my home workshop. mounted it on the 12' ceiling. really liked it. Now when i press the retract button at the cord end it simply makes a clicking sound at the ball. the retract button on the ball works.. i will call as the troubleshooting guide serves no purpose in solving this. i see someone else had this problem as well.
Come on ROBOREEL at least tell us what to do in the troubleshooting guide on the internet.. only takes an hour or two to have someone add to you guide. nice product but now that you re rich don't get lazy!! your never done!!
