Where have you been all my life?

This guitar is the real deal. All the good comments that have been said about it certainly have held true for me. The packing is phenomenally good - double boxed (probably a bit of overkill, but I'd rather have that for a musical instrument than not enough packing). The sound is sensational. You won't be disappointed. I have a $4000 Alvarez Yairi, and this sound gets very close. And, you can fold it, unfold it, and it stays in tune! Great backpack that comes with it- so easy to toss in the back of your car (carefully, of course), take through the airport, and put in the overhead compartment- even on a small plane. Amazing! Great job, Voyage-Air. Truly, a breakthrough new type of guitar. Now my guitar really can go with me anywhere.

Very Cool

I purchased one of these so I could practice with a full size guitar in Africa. The set up for the guitar is pretty awesome and it's well protected within it's case. The case also allowed me to bypass areas where I normally get pulled to the side for security...ever since I started carrying a guitar with me, I guess I look like a criminal or something, so I always get stopped by security personnel, but they didn't even look twice at me with this because they didn't know what it was!!! When you remove it from the case and expand it out, you will have to do a slight tuning. It stays pretty close, but not quite. And...oh yeah...guitar sounds great!!

My only gripe about the playability of the guitar is on how wide it's neck is. I'm no Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I've played a few guitars and this one has a really wide neck. It was a little difficult to go from my regular acoustic at home to this one just because of the neck width difference and I had to watch as I fretted so I didn't hit the wrong strings. I eventually got it down, but it's still not as easy to strum chords as other guitars I've played. That being said...it was great for picking!

When traveling on an airline, just be aware that if it's a small puddle jumper, you may not be able to fit the case in the overhead and in some circumstances, it might not even fit under the seat in front of you. Two out of my three flights worked out nicely, but once I hit the puddle jumper flight, I had to argue with the flight attendants about checking it in and putting in the cargo hold...when I started to accuse them of wanting to break my guitar and caused a scene they left me alone and I kept it in my lap.

NOTE: Do a good look over the guitar when you first get it. When I received mine, I found a 1 1/2in crack on the back of the neck just under the head of the guitar. I got it in right before I went to Africa and didn't have time to exchange it before I left, so I took it with me as it was. Thankfully I have an extended warranty on it, so when I do bring it back to the states, I can get it fixed. It seemed that glue had been put in the crack, so I'm assuming QA found it but decided to just patch it....I dunno. The crack hasn't widened or extended in the African climate, so I'm happy for the time being.

Voyage-Air VAOM-02 Does Its Job and Does It Well
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

The Voyage-Air Guitar sounds good for an inexpensive laminate guitar. It has a full-size neck and its portability makes it easy to take on trip and still play a guitar that sounds like a guitar unlike the backpacker models which do not play or feel like a normal guitar.

When the guitar is unfolded, you would never know that it folded up and could be stored in an airplane overhead. It costs more than backpacker guitars, but it is so much better than the backpacker models.

It also stays in tune very well considering that the neck folds in half. The backpack is very nice and well padded. You can carry personal items and a laptop.

The design and backpack is well-thought out.

Sound and playability equal to other guitars in the price range...AND it folds for travel.
by MAK (4 out of 5 stars)

I travel to Central America several times a year and wanted to have a travel guitar that had a full sized neck length and nut width. I foolishly thought that it would have to have a small body. There are several to choose from, and I ended up with a Washburn Rover. I tried my best to appreciate it, but it sounded awful and played even worse. When the bridge started to lift it was time to start shopping again, and was I glad that I did.

The Voyage-Air OM-02 arrived last week and I can't stop playing it. Of course it does not sound like my 10 year old solid tonewood Dread, but who would expect that. It does stand up to similar guitars in the low to mid price range, AND you can travel with it. Sound and playablility way beyond the other travel guitars. I was a little worried that not having a solid top would would be a problem, but it sounds fine, and I'm thinking it was a good trade off for the added durability. It is a little bulkier than I had expected, so well have to see how well it fits overhead. Most reviews have said OK in the larger jets. Called the company with a couple of questions and they were very responsive.

Brilliant!!

I'll start by saying I honestly don't know what's more genius the backpack or the guitar itself. The bag has plenty of storage space for your accessories and was well thought out with the traveler in mind. I take frequent motorcycle trips and don't have to leave my guitar behind anymore. As for the guitar itself, has good sound quality, stays in tune, and gets the job done. The joint is so tight you'll barely notice, and no buzzing in the joint fret. Also, changing the strings through the slotted nut is no problem. I wish I knew about this guitar before I bought my Baby Taylor for travel (it's now for sale). If you're buying for motorcycle travel keep the plastic bag the guitar will be wrapped in because the backpack is not waterproof. This one is a keeper!

Great travel guitar that beats the smaller travel guitars!
by Amazon customer (5 out of 5 stars)

We tried out several smaller travel guitars at local guitar shops. We searched for several other online. Martin Backpacker, Mini Taylor, Mini Martin, Washburn Rover all sounded good for their size, but really cannot be compared to any full size guitar. If you are basically strumming, then those smaller travel guitars are fine. You can even buy them on E-bay for cheap. If you are doing some more intricate playing, then a full size guitar is a minimum. This Voyage-Air line of guitars fits that need.

This model is the laminate-top model. The least expensive too. Paid 355 bucks here on Amazon with free shipping. We decided that since it is primarily for travel, the laminate would withstand the abuse of travel better than a solid-top. That was confirmed after reading advice from guitar experts.

When locked into position the neck is secure, and it has the full sound of a regular guitar... not the sound of the smaller travel ones. The screw which secures the neck to the base does protrude a bit and you do feel it when your hand slides down toward the body of the guitar. It's no high-end Martin or Taylor, but that is not the right comparison.

The backpack is high quality and custom fit. I'm sure it will fit in the airplane overhead bins as we had hoped. The backpack even has a padded area to fit a notebook computer.

Now my teenage son is excited to be able to bring a full size guitar on our upcoming vacations. I'll try to get him to post a video review.

Voyage-Air has raised the bar with travel guitars.

Update 5/20/11:

Traveled to central america with this guitar. He loved having a full size guitar on our vacation. Fit into all the overhead airline bins easily. No problems with the humidity of central america. Easy to carry around compared to a regular guitar.
