went through target easily. Be sure and buy a quality crossbow target ...
by DR Quest (4 out of 5 stars)

I took my time looking over all the crossbows on the market and for the money you can't go wrong with this model. It;s a little heavier than some of the other models. Overall I wanted an affordable crossbow for hunting that would last and work for years to come

Sighted factory scope in with only 5 bolts. Very powerful, went through target easily.

Be sure and buy a quality crossbow target that only allows the bolt to go half way through.

The scope works well but lacks the typical range finding recticle used on modern crossbows today. This became a huge problem while deer hunting so I ordered a new scope. Read below:
" Later last season during a snow storm I missed a nice doe , I misjudged the distance and shot too low but saw the bolt pass under her legs"

It was a lesson learned well. Better luck next time?

It will be nice to have the range finding recticle during my next crossbow deer hunt.

Adding the new scope should make this a deadly hunting package.

Looking forward to sighting in the new scope this week! Will add to this post later July 6 ,2015

Straightforward assembly and easy to shoot.
by William A. Nolan (5 out of 5 stars)
December 21, 2014

I have only had this a couple of days, and I am new to crossbows, so keep that in mind. I did shoot a compound bow for many years, but recent shoulder problems have made that impossible. Unless you are a gorilla you will want some help cocking this. I ordered it with the crank cocking device. Assembly of the bow, scope, and cocking device took a couple of hours. I was going slowly and carefully. Cocking with the crank is pretty easy, so no issues there. Sighting in the scope at the initial range of 15 yards took 12 shots. The scope says one click moves it 1/4 inch at 100 yards. They have you sight it in at 15 yards for the first line on the scope. At that range it took about 75 clicks to move it left 10". It is easy to shoot and has basically no recoil at all. It does take maybe 45 seconds to cock it and make the next shot. The safety is easy to use and sets automatically when you cock it, and the trigger is smooth. Easy to keep on target, but I have shot rifles, including in competition, for many years. All in all, I am looking forward to hunting with this after the first of the year. I have tags for deer and javelina.

Great purchase
by William (5 out of 5 stars)

Received my crossbow in 5 days and I've been like a kid with a new Christmas gift since. I immediately went out to sight in the scope at 20 and 30 yds and it's shooting 1-2 inch groups from 30. I have not taken it out on a hunt yet but I'm pretty psyched to do so. It came complete with rope cocker, rail lube (which is expensive lip balm basically), 3 bolts with field tips, a quiver, and scope that you have to mount. The bow is a little loud when shooting but extremely fast and accurate. I found that I had to replace the field tips because they are too light @100 gr. The bolts where landing high on the target, so I'm using 125 gr tips and they're hitting exactly where I'm aiming. Fyi, from 20-30 yds the bolts will sometimes shoot so deep into the block only the nock will show. I'm currently working for more accuracy without the lead sled @40 yds.

All in all, I'm happy with this purchase, from shipping to shooting, it's been all good.

Great for the hunter that is looking for tree stand ...
by Wesley Green (5 out of 5 stars)

Great for the hunter that is looking for tree stand crossbow. overall this crossbow has penetration power that is either equal or beyond some $500-$700 crossbows. And i think it is just as quick as them too.A little heavy some say, but, my 9 year old daughter shots it . I have killed a few deer with it, with no problems. I have quieted up some people that said they could out shoot it with their ten point wicked ridge, and 385's but walk away with a different thoughts after wards. Dead on a 20,40,and 60, yards, done have much use for the other two lines. Very happy with it.

I am unable to draw a compound bow anymore due to a bad shoulder. The instructions could be better b

This is my first crossbow. I am unable to draw a compound bow anymore due to a bad shoulder. The instructions could be better but overall this crossbow is a monster and I mean that in a good way. Very fast and powerful. When sighting it in calculate your corrections by using 16 clicks per inch at 20 - 25 yards and get a good target. The yardages on the scope are a little odd but very accurate once you figure it out. Wax it every 5 shots and all should be well

Great bow
by Bass (4 out of 5 stars)
July 24, 2016

Great bow! Can't say enough good things about it. It's solid, shoots incredibly fast and accurate, and very easy to use. The only complaints are the weight of the bow is a little tiring if you Hunt in the mountains and the quiver is poorly placed. The quiver is constantly digging into my shoulder as I walk with it strapped to my shoulder with a rifle strap. Overall, solid bow for a good price.

This crossbow is amazing. It fires at a blistering speed
by Patrick (5 out of 5 stars)

This crossbow is amazing. It fires at a blistering speed. I recieved it on a Thursday and made my first deer kill of the season on Saturday. Make sure to order extra bolts as your likely to loose a few durring the scope set up.The quality arrows used with Muzzy Trocar broadheads did an unbelievable job at taking down my buck. When you get the scope set up, it is very important to check all of your lock srews for tihtness. If you do this religiously, you can expect the same shot all the time. Good Hunting to all.

Older Model But Still A Great Crossbow.
by Carl Cloer (4 out of 5 stars)

So far, so good. Actually, great...

This crossbow was easy to assemble out of the box and comes with quiver, three Easton Barnett Headhunter 20" bolts with field tips, string cocking device, and crossbow wax. After adjusting the string length so that the bow would fully cock at my belt (rather than armpits), at 66 years of age, 6', and 230 lbs, this is no great effort to cock (repeatedly). The bow is extremely accurate with the field tips, but since I bought a bag target, have not shot my Rage broadheads yet. I did replace the Barnett scope with an illuminated scope with multiple crosshairs and have tuned the bow to shoot bulls-eyes at 20,30, and 40 yards, so far. It is extremely accurate to those ranges, putting three of three shots into a 2" bull at all distances.

I did shoot two shots into the bag with the Rage practice tips and tore some pretty big holes in the bag getting them back out (the plastic woven material hangs up in the practice blade so badly I literally had to cut one of them out of the bag). Anyway, those two shots were two inches to the right and two inches low from the dialed in 100 grain field points at 30 years, so I am going to have to re-zero with a broadhead target arriving tomorrow...sort of a pain, since the advertising said they would fly the same as field points of the same weight.

The one down side is the weight. This is a HEAVY crossbow...probably the heaviest Barnett made (past tense). Barnett no longer lists the Penetrator on their website. There are newer Barnett crossbows with their "Carbon Riser" technology, selling for less money, with the same FPS rating, that weigh a full pound lighter. They also advertise a 14" stroke, where the Penetrator is 12" for the same 350 FPS, a feature I like but that probably makes for more noise and vibration.

If I had looked a bit harder on Amazon, I probably have bought a different Barnett crossbow, but considering how many days afield I will get during archery season, this one suites me just fine, and is a darn sight lighter than some of the long range rifles I hump around!

Here piggy piggy!
by Ramrod (5 out of 5 stars)

I really like this bow. It is very accurate. I am working on finding just the right arrow for it. Made the mistake of putting on a flat nock arrow today and the string broke. It tells you to use half moon nocks but I didn't think it would break the string. The arrow only went about 15 yards. I bought a crank for cocking it. I HIGHLY recommend getting the crank. You won't regret it.

I really love my new Penetrator crossbow
by basschaser24 (5 out of 5 stars)

I really love my new Penetrator crossbow. After shooting compounds for many years I finally made the change but I will still hunt with the old bow sometimes. This thing is freaky fast and hits really hard. It was easy to assemble how ever the quiver is cheaply made. One of the mounting parts popped off when I was trying to install it. I tried superglue but to no avail. Contacted Barnett and have not received a reply yet. Other than that I love my bow. It is a beast.
