Product Description

The Super Precision Gyroscope has been designed and built to the highest precision from the very start, made from solid brass with a light-weight aluminium frame. Carefully chosen stainless-steel miniature ball bearings allow it to run smoothly and almost silently. The gyroscope operates up to 12,000 revolutions per minute using the provided electric motor and battery pack. The motor can be fastened to the gyroscope with two screws providing hours of continuous use or it can be used briefly to start it, allowing you to perform experiments for around 7 minutes. The gyroscope comes with a number of attachments allowing numerous configurations to perform scientific, educational or simply mesmerising experiments. The gyroscope comes with 2 x 50 mm long stainless steel extension rods, 2 x ball ends, 1 x slotted end. The rods when screwed together will extend 100mm, they can be screwed in other positions to create gimbals etc. There are 7 places on the frame of gyroscope that the attachments can be screwed into. Electric motor and battery pack. Batteries are not included.

Best gyroscope out there

This thing goes forever. They claim you can do experiments with it for up to 8 minutes. Mine, if left alone, has run for 15 minutes. It is a very cool gadget and precisely made. I would like them to make a bigger one.

More "instrument" than "toy"
by Jeff Slater (5 out of 5 stars)

Great little bit of precision work here, comes in a nice little storage/gift box with drawers and a magnetic closure. Spins for a LONG time and is a great conversation piece. Only reason for 4 stars in durability is that I can see it getting knocked out of balance if roughly handled (falling off a counter etc).

Precision, beautiful but instructions not clear
by anest5hdoc (4 out of 5 stars)

This is a beautiful piece of precision equipment. It maintains its rotational energy well and performs pretty much as advertised. Even though it was carefully installed as instructed in the first configuration using the ball ends there was enough vibration where it got loose and fell on the floor!! Fortunately, it was not damaged. The instruction were also not very clear.

More than a toy!

This item is fantastic! My grandson and I have hours of enjoyment with this and the add-on gimbals kit. A lot of fun with a lot of learning too! Great item!

,.Fragile scientific instrument and and a real demonstration of a force that remains consistent and will put you and your children's minds to work and it is fun and amazing! For the price and workmanship a real deal at twice the price but it has to be treated with care and it will stay around forever! It is just one key to God keeping it all working for all of us!

This is not a precision gyroscope
by sp1111 (2 out of 5 stars)

I received this toy and when I connected motor it started with noise and it is always noisy. even if I turn the wheel slowly with manual effort, you can hear the sound. It makes too much of sound for a gyroscope and doesn't run smoothly.

I was trying to get a replacement for this toy and told my problem, but they are not sending the return receipt. In the website they have several review video, there sound is muted, so not sure if all are like this or mine is defective.

I dont expect this "executive toy" to arrive like this after paying 126 dollar.

A True Precision Instrument
by Richard H. Wood (5 out of 5 stars)

In my view this gyroscope is NOT really a toy but a educational demonstration unit. I did not buy it from Amazon but directly from gyroscope.com in England as I wanted the gimbals accessory and the spare rotor bearings and replacement tool set, items not yet listed on Amazon. Hopefully they will be available here shortly.

So far as I have been able to find this is the only currently available gyroscope that uses a motor to spin it up. The motor is powered by 4 AA cells, not included. The rotor is quite massive at about 112 grams and per the manufacturer the motor spins it up to 12,000 RPM. Due to precision build the gyroscope is surprisingly quiet and smooth operating at that speed and the massive rotor, and good bearings, give a considerable run time even with the motor detached after it gets the gyro up to speed.

This is the most versatile gyroscope Amazon offers in that it can be configured the same as "toy" gyroscopes without gimbals for mounting or with the gimbals accessory available from gyroscope.com. In the basic "toy" configuration it can balance on a glass, a string or do any of the other gyroscope tricks seen in illustrations of toy gyroscopes. With the gimbals accessory setup it becomes a typical college lab type demonstration gyroscope useful in teaching Physics mechanics principles. An additional accessory is available to configure it to illustrate the principles of a "rate gyro" as used in aircraft instrumentation too.

It should be the most reliable unit available as replacement rotor support minature ball bearings are available from the manufacturer. He does warn that the bearings can be damaged if the unit is dropped or mistreated which is why replacements are offered.

Based on appearance, feel and documentation this is THE Gyroscope to get if you appreciate precision engineering and like very nice quality "toys", either for serious educational purposes or as an executive toy for science geeks. In my opinion this is NOT a kids toy and considering the rotor rotational speed and energy in it I would not recommend it for kids under 12 or so without close adult supervision. Price alone moves it outside the normal "toy gyroscope" category.

Awesome!!!
by Alexandre A. Souza (5 out of 5 stars)

I love this super precision gyroscope. It is heavy, it is not noisy and it does not vibrate, so it is very stable. It is interesting to buy the Gimbals kit, that is sold separately, to perform sever kinds of movements. It is not a toy, because it spins very fast, it is not recommended for children. This is an adult stuff. Awesome!
