Cool tool box, crappy locking mechanism

I like the toolbox overall. But the worse part about it is the inferior locking mechanism on it. It rarely worked and made it very difficult to open to gain access to the tools. I eventually had to destroy it with sticking a screwdriver in the key hole. I also zipped tied the locking hinge to enable usage of closing the lid. It works better now without the worthless lock. The company should be ashamed of using such crappy materials and charging that price

Junk

Well, this has been sitting in my garage for months now, not riding around on the Jeep. The vertical hinge rusted solid and the powder coating has bubbled up (rust...) Not durable at all. Never even really got to use it. I can only imagine the state it would be in if I had actually taken it outside a couple of time...

Feel like a kid on Xmas day! This thing is awesome! I bought two! ALL steel construction.

The opening mechanism contains a simple lock but it too is all steel construction, with a set of nice steel keys that won't break off while opening. The draws don't use glides, just basic felt tracks that allows the draws to slide in and complete out with ease. Paint job is good, no under sprayed areas on the drawers, inside, etc. Comes with custom cut "no slip" sheets that fit each drawer.

It is weatherproof because all the joins use folds that direct any water away from the seems. It will take only some self applied weather stripping to seal it even tighter. The key slot is also self closing which will aid in waterproofing. Yearly application of some silicone lubricant to the hinges and lock should keep it rust free for years. Excellent purchase!

Great idea!

This is one of those products that people say that they wished they'd thought of. I'm actually going to use it as a pinstriping box. Totally stealing the idea from a well known striper from the west coast actually marketing this same box for twice the price! Glad I checked Amazon! Box itself is heavy, and extremely well made. I see no reason it wouldn't stand up to abuse on the trails. They make one without the drawers if that helps ya out.

Item Arrived dented up. It's a heavy box, shoukd withstand a little abuse, but the dents that came stock have me worried and wondering why I paid so much. Its for tools, I don't expect it to be pretty, but I'd like to be the one adding the dents.

Rampage 86619 Trail Can Utility Tool Box

Nice Jerry-style tool box/utility can!! Don't pay attention to folks who down-graded this can because it couldn't fit hammers and cordless tools. You can look at and see it has two drawers and a top storage compartment. It fits well into the Jerry can bracket and is designed to hold small tools and parts--which is exactly how we use it in our trailer. If you want something that holds large hammers and power drills, then buy a tool box from Sears.

Strait out of a Bond movie, Q would be proud.

Very cool toolbox mounted to the back tire of my Jeep Wrangler with a Smittybilt 2798 can holder attached to the unused bolt holes in my spare's rim. Carry tools with you and folks will think it's an empty gas can if the tap on it. Keeps your stuff safer then if inside your jeeps plastic windows.

NIce Can, Functional and Clever
by Mountain Bike Mike (4 out of 5 stars)

Nice can, it has the look of a Jerry Can and the same weight and feel. The filler cap twists counterclockwise to open the lid and exposes a lift out tool tray.

Once the top is open the front curved section can swing out and exposes a place to hang 4 screwdrivers or other small round objects. The only problem here is that the plastic handle can not be more than 3 and five eights tall because it will hit at the top when you close the door, must screwdrivers are ok.

There are 2 pull out drawers that are quite adequate and holds a lot of stuff, there are no "stops" on the drawers so they will pull all the way out and they are not on tracks. Nonetheless they work well.

The quality seems to be good, the door closes and is properly latched by the top when closed. If you get the metal straps (I found mine on E-Bay from a seller named "rhetoric98")to secure your can you will not even need the keys provided for the filler top. I have posted some pictures.

I would have given it a 5 if tolerances were a little better and the pull-out drawers were on tracks and/or had stops. I would purchase another if needed.

Nice!

Purchased this for someone who is hard to buy for - if they want something, they've already bought it! While that tempts one to just send an Amazon gift card, a skinny card is not the same as a gift wrapped package. It arrived before the scheduled arrival, which was nice. The box though was damaged extensively and had been taped back together. I was worried about that - no way was that can intact inside that mess! But it was unscathed- to my intense relief. It's double packed, and the inside packaging served its purpose. It was a little heavier than I expected. The locking mechanism needed a little lube to get it moving a little more freely, but that was a simple process. I had been a little worried because some of the reviews I had read were less than complementary. I was very pleased - it was nicer than I was expecting. It's a great way to disguise a small tool kit in plain sight. It's construction seems heavy and rugged and should hold up well. It is something I would purchase again for the right person.

Horrible paint fade, lock doesn't work well.
by Mike (1 out of 5 stars)

My tool box isn't even a year old and I haven't actually even opened and closed it even a dozen times and the lock is already broken and it's shut with my trail repair tools stuck inside. I contacted Rampage about it and I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve me cutting open and ruining the tool box. Also whatever paint or coating they use does not age well. Mine is almost pink in color from the sun fade. It actually works because of the patina my truck has but I'd be mad about it if I was expecting it to stay shiny and red for longer than one season.
