super fun and easy

Had it for about 4 months and I've made tons of picks already from old credit cards, hotel keys, casino player cards and those annoying cards you get from promotional junk mail. If you do it right you can get 5 picks from one card. See photos.

Quirky idea if you're low on materials to punch...

I remember seeing this a long time ago and thinking how practical it would be for someone who plays guitar, a friend of mine jokingly asked for a guitar pick for her 18th birthday (because they don't cost much individually) and I remembered this awesome invention. A recommendation I have to anyone who wants to give this as a gift but doesn't have any materials that are cool enough, you don't have to buy the material to can go to a store and (awkwardly) buy gift cards you think look cool and as long as there is no minimum you can get a whole bunch with like 5 cents on them each! I didn't plan to do this but while in petco (random I know) I thought about how funny and awesome it would be to make guitar picks for my friend with the cool gift cards. Long story short rather than pay 20 extra dollars I was able to spend a total of 50 cents spread across 10 gift cards to make lots of fun and unique guitar picks. Sending her a photo of the receipt (which is hilarious) was also a great way to get her even more curious as to what the gift is. I haven't given it to her yet but upon making lots out of the petco gift cards I am positive she's going to love it! (The photo is just a few of my personal favorites plus a shoutout to petco for helping me make this special present happen)

Pick Punch snapped in half
by Paul Christensen (3 out of 5 stars)

We received our pick punch a couple days ago and it certainly "punches" a perfect pick. We had used 0.46 mm materials and after making approximately 30 or so picks, it broke. It cracked in half on the bottom edge splitting in half. We're not sure if our product will be replaced or refunded.

Recycling is fun!

Love this pick punch! I have been saving hotel key cards, old credit cards, casino cards, etc for the past few years after my brother got one of these for Christmas. I took up the guitar a year ago and decided to get a pick punch for myself. It's a really cool way to get some use out of all those cards that would otherwise be thrown away.

The picks themselves are a good size for me - I mostly play acoustic and I just strum. They are comfortable and I can get 5 out of a card if I'm not particular about what's centered on the pick.

Some reviewers have mentioned that the edges are rough. When you first punch out a pick, there is a little roughness to the edges, but a quick swipe around with a fingernail or running the edge over your pants leg (as another reviewer mentioned) is sufficient to smooth out the edge.

This is BRILLIANT!! Ive been saving my old credit cards, and AAA cards, gift cards, etc for years.I was going to use them to build a swimming pool, but now? I am the handcrafted guitar pick Queen of Maine!!! The cutter works very well, and makes a satisfying 'thunk' when the punch is pressed..Now? my next mission is to get everyone to give me their old cards...This is absolutely brilliant!!!!!!! This wont work on the thicker Credit cards, but its amazing on just about everything else!

Too much fun

I know grown men aren't supposed to giggle, but I'm having way too much fun punching guitar picks out of old credit cards. The punch works great. The picks come out perfect almost every time. Maybe I missed it in the description, but there is a piece of sand paper on the bottom of the punch to clean off any rough edges (happened once out of 20+ picks.)

I really like the picks it makes. Regular picks are too slick for me to hold onto sometimes, but these cc picks have are 'grippy.' I can hold onto them better. Now, I just have to wait for some more of those fake cc's to come in the mail. :)

Need a pick? You need this.

I am in pick heaven. I have used this to make over 150 picks. I have used credit cards and plastic containers and even plastic lids off of containers. I am constantly looking for things to make picks out of. Why buy expensive picks when you can make them. I have picks now that will probably last forever..Everything from thick and stiff to medium and flexible to very thin. All give a different sound and pliability in strumming. Sturdy and well made. I can see this thing making picks long after I am gone. Great product that will pay for itself. Everyone who plays should have one of these.

Never run out of picks again

Purchased because a coworker has one and I was jealous. It's a fun toy/tool. I've finally found a use for all those fake credit cards and other plastic cards that come in the mail. For what it's worth, my coworker used his on his old license, so he now has a pick with his picture on it.

This came with a small piece of sandpaper glued to the bottom, which is nice for smoothing the edges. If you're careful, you can get five picks from a single credit card. Unfortunately, credit card plastic is just a tad too rigid for my taste, but I've found milk jug plastic and sour cream and butter tubs to work well, too.

Great gift for the musician in your life!

I purchased this as a gift for my brother who plays guitar professionally - so he goes through a lot of picks! He has had a lot of fun over the past year and a half making his own picks out of recycled materials and with cool designs. He recently made one of out of his old drivers license so now he has a pick with his own face on it! The picks it makes are good quality and definitely useable. I agree with other reviewers you might want to quickly file / sand the edges if you want them super smooth.

Endless Possibilities.

When I needed a light and flexible pick it was difficult to find exactly what I wanted. The best solution I could find was to punch out what I wanted from materials that worked best for me. Thus, the Pick Punch came into play. I find that using the plastic material from blister pack packaging has just the right flexibility and firmness. I now have a virtually endless supply of pick material that suits my playing style perfectly.
