Impressed all around

I purchased two of these on the spur-of-the-moment two days prior to a week-long mountain bike tour involving road and trail riding.

My wife and I wanted to be able to use our iPhones with the app MapMyRide for navigation and to track our progress.

Thanks to Amazon Prime, the two cases arrived the night before we left. We didn't even have a chance to open the boxes, but put them into the back of our car and took off to get to our drop off point.

On arriving, we found putting the mounts on a breeze. The iPhones fit perfectly and intuitively into the cases, which then snapped onto the mounts.

Over a week of heavy constant use, the cases saw dirt, rain, and a lot of bumps. They performed beyond any of my expectations, allowing us to take photographs (through a special lens built into the back of the case), operate the touchscreen (through the clear front of the case), push the home button, and push the on/off button.

Several days into the ride, in rain, I figured out that the case allows a waterproof connection to a charging cord. Since I had an external battery with me, I was able to hook the battery to the iPhone through the waterproof connection slot and use a Bluetooth headset to listen to podcasts and music while riding, without draining the internal battery. (MapMyRide is notorious for draining batteries too.)

All around, a great value and well worth the price. Great protection and design features. Highly recommended. We were loathe to take our iPhones out of the cases when the tour was over.

as close to perfect as it gets

Yes, as other reviews say, this product arrives in a plain white box with nothing but a little slip of paper with 6 step instructions. and 3 warnings...
1. Use hex key to mount bracket to handlebar or stem
2. Replace Silicon trays to fit different IP (IP4 or IP3)
3. Place IP in, lock lid and silicone ring
4 Insiert Bike Console in Bracket UNTIL QUICKRELEASE IS LOCKED
5. Open top rubber cap to plug in headphones if needed
6. Rotate console to desired position
1.Over-tightening mounting bracket can cause damage. (Duh)
2. Product is designed to be rain proof only, don't immerse in water (Duh)
3. SECURELY LOCK BIKECONSOLE TO MOUNTING BRACKET BEFORE RIDING (key to happiness!!)

Ok, so the bad reviews of this product all seem to complain about the phone case not locking into the console. May I suggest these people just need to turn there bracket around, the locking mechanism is pretty self explanatory when you examine the pieces for about 2 minutes. The middle bar of the mounting bracket in the photos is a trigger, the phone case slides in and a little tooth on the trigger locks the case in. You have to bend that trigger to release the tooth and free the case.

This thing is wonderful. The only downside is that when you're out riding on a sunny day and you look down at your phone screen facing upward, it's pretty dim in the sunlight. Can't blame this product for the effects of a beautiful day though. Great product!

As for some reviews I've read with concerns about overheating phones... Your phone isn't going to overheat if you're looking up at the road and not constantly making your screen light up and burn power/create heat. I don't think a couple hours in this case is going to do a bit of harm.

rock solid phone mount

this mount is wonderful for any kind of biking you can throw at it. I do multi-terrain and this thing held up to all the abuse I could dish at it. If it is really hot outside and you're in the sun I could imagine your phone would potentially shut down to prevent overheating especially if you're running screen on with gps. My advice would be to keep the phone locked which kills the screen but keeps running everything in the background.

All buttons remain functional and touch screen stays responsive. Its pretty easy to hookup to your bike and removal is a piece of cake. For the money, probably one of the best mounts out there for the iphone 4 series phones.

Already looking to get another one for my iphone 5 !!!

Great Price, Solid Design, HAPPY TO RECOMMEND!

REALLY happy to recommend this solution for taking your precious iPhone 3/4S out and about on your bike, protected from the elements. The price was right, sure I coveted the BioLogic Bike Mount for iPhone 4 but at $60 that's $34 more expensive than the 'Heavy Duty' and as far as I can tell, the designs are very similar (rubber jacket, use of groove gasket to seal, clamp to fasten).

I'm especially pleased that there is room to house my Wahoo Fisica ANT+ dongle attached to the iPhone, which of course is the whole point for buying the case i.e to use it as an amazing and very readable bike computer! I had to cut the rubber sleeve to fully accommodate the dongle but it now fits perfectly. Of course Wahoo charge $119 for case+dongle and I didn't see the point in going that route.

Have not used it on the bike outside yet but can report that the screen registers every touch thru the protective screen and the power & home buttons work perfectly. Intrigued by the possibility of videoing a cycle trip, just because I can.

Did subject the case to a water test (held it under a running tap for 3 minutes, various angles) and the inside remained bone-dry.

If you find this review useful, be sure to rate it. THANKS.

Simple yet effective

I took a chance ordering this one but I'm so glad I did. Its simple design is just that, simple. However it does EXACTLY what I was looking for and i'm VERY happy I bought this. The clamp hooks on like a zip tie that you can loosen/tighten and a rubber stopper prevents rotation once attached. It doesn't even come lose when I ride. In fact there is no slippage or movement at all once it is tightened down. The case rotates between a vertical or horizontal position allowing you to choose different views for the phone. The case itself is made of a hard plastic with the inside having a soft silicon mold for either the 4 or 3 versions of the iPhone. My 4Gs fits very nice and snug inside it. I already have a screen protector on my phone so i was nervous about the added screen protection but there is no lag in the touch sensitivity at all when using both. Overall this is a GREAT product and you just can't beat the price when compared to similar models.

GREAT IPHONE HOLDER
by Stick (5 out of 5 stars)
January 16, 2013

I have used this phone holder twice now and it works perfectly with my iPhone 4. Hit a pot hole hard head-on and the case did not miss a beat. Fairly easy to install the phone holder and get the phone in and out of the holder. The iPhone 4 fits like a hand-in-a-glove with a screen protector on the phone, but you will need to remove any other protective case you may have on the phone. Now I can use the great APP I found, and get the weight of the phone out of my jersey's back pocket.

Broke off Immediately.

Ok, maybe I was the dumb one here, but while biking up a hill I came out of the saddle and my knee gave an uppercut to this mount which resulted in my iphone flying into the middle of the road. As I dashed into the road hoping my phone wouldn't get crushed, I myself almost got hit by a car (again my fault). I purchased another crossbar case that I like more because it can also hold some money/goo/etc...

Easy to install, but need further directions first!
by Laura (4 out of 5 stars)

I hope this review helps some other people to avoid the difficulty I had when installing this product. It is not difficult to install. However, to me, it was not intuitive for me without better instructions than what is included in the package. Thankfully there are further instructions (video format) that clarified it for me. You can find them here: [...]

Beyond this, it looks like a good product! It wasn't the most responsive on the screen, but with firm pressure, it responded well enough. I'll supplement this review once using it further.

great

Very practical, durable, the phone is easy to use while in the case. Overall an excellent product, I bike 50 to 100 miles a week in all weather conditions and my IPhone 4 has never gotten wet or had an issue. The case has taken some good hits but other than minor scratches it still looks great. My only very minor complaint is that you cannot charge the phone while in the case, but considering the level of protection and it's purpose the design makes sense.

Good case with some issues
by D. Unger (4 out of 5 stars)
June 29, 2012

I used this case for the first time today. It worked well and was stable on my bike and I felt that my iPhone was secure. I also thought the touch screen was sensitive enough that I could use it through the case and the Home and on/off buttons worked well while in the case. I also received the item only 1 day after I ordered it! (1 day earlier than it was supposed to arrive).

However there are several issues:

I agree with another reviewer that the instructions are horrible/almost nonexistent. Eventually I figured out how to attach the handlebar mount. Once I did, I found it to be securely mounted and stayed that way on my sometimes bumpy ride today. My second issue is the visibility of the iPhone screen through the protective cover in sunlight (not good), but this is no different from the iBike case I also have. The third problem is that you actually can't take pictures while the iPhone is in the case, despite the camera opening; the protective plastic over the opening creates a huge bright glare in all the pictures, obscuring 1/3 of the picture. I had to stop and remove the camera from the case to take pictures along my ride. Perhaps I am using it incorrectly, but since there are virtually no instructions, I can't tell.
