Wonderful notepad for fitting in your back pocket. I carry this every day for work and the waterproof pages work great with a pencil.
Pros
1.) Very durable
2.) Doesn't take up much space
3.) Fits in pocket well
Cons
1.) Doesn't work with regular pens (smears)
REALLY Tear proof and water proof! Just make sure you use the right pen.

As advertised. People are getting really annoyed with me because I keep talking about how cool these notebooks are. They are truly untearable which is what I was exhaustedly researching to find. I am a cashier and I keep my notebook in my pocket. I have to pull it out and put it in constantly. The page I need with traditional notebooks usually gets torn to shreds within weeks.
Now, the fun stuff is writing in it and then running it under the sink. That's just fun for me! I want to get the most out of my notebook, so I'm considering storing it in a bucket of water.
It seems to me peoples view of this notebook has a lot to do with what pen/pencil/marker they are using. The number one important thing with this notebook is to make sure you have a companion writing utensil. I feel that when you see the smattering of ratings for this notebook, it all comes down to that. Here is a thorough review by the Pen Addict for you to consider [...] edition where the conclusion is the Uniball Jetstream 0.7mm Pen. I have also seen reviews that recommend a simple bic ball point pen. I suppose that may rub a little, but for what this notebook offers in return, I'm surprised anybody would care that much. I haven't actually tested either of these pens myself.
I have always preferred inky, free-flowing writing utensils like Uniball V-2s or the surprisingly amazing Dollar Tree R2 which would be a total no-go for this notebook. I use a Sharpie Ultra-Fine marker (not pen) and it's terrific. I was worried before the notebooks arrived because reviews tested the pens by letting them dry for a few minutes. I use the sharpie markers and then almost immediately run it under the tap and it turns out great. Well... maybe when I do it IMMEDIATELY it made a slight impression on the opposing page (that doesn't interfere with my writing experience, it is so light)--but I let it dry 0 minutes, so I think that's pretty good.
When I don't do that--for notes I've had in the book for days then run under the tap, I don't notice any impression on the other pages and this involves writing notes then closing the book immediately.
Truly, these notebooks were exactly what I was looking for and have improved my quality of life.

You're trading a little smudging in exchange for bulletproof (not scientifically tested) paper, wort

Pros:
+ tearproof paper
+ waterproof paper
+ sturdy yet thin and easily pocketable
+ dot pattern
Cons:
- doesn't play well with most writing utensils
- smudges a little
Synthetic inks work best (ballpoint pen), and pencil also comes in. They both smudge a little but like I've said to some of the people who pointed that out: you're essentially trading a little smudging in return to have strongly tear- and water-resistant paper, in a notebook that's gorgeous and doesn't fall apart in a back pocket after 2 weeks (like most of the Field Notes I've had to tape up).
I was very on the fence about buying these; I had been thinking about it for about 4 months, and all the complaints about smudging put me off. But the indestructibility is brilliant and totally worth the smudging.
If you're one of those types who need to have a perfect and pretty pocket notebook to show off your bullet journal on instagram, this definitely isn't for you.
If you need a reliable and hardy notebook to be taken anywhere and that can stand up to abuse, whether dirty hands or bad weather, like me, then it's definitely worth it.
Works wonderfully . . . with the right pen/marker. Everything else will smear :(

In theory, these are great notebooks. I buy Field Notes all the time. I love the quality, the craftsmanship, the attention to detail.
What I dislike about this edition, however, are the pages. I have tried three separate pens on them, including Sharpie pens, and find that all of them smudge. The only thing to stay thus far has been an actual permanent marker and a ballpoint pen (though this smudges also if you don't give it time to dry).
You can guess from this that they do NOT work with the Pilot G2, the king of pens.
So while I appreciate the design, the utility is definitely not for me. I needed a Field Notes that I could scribble in and draw in without having to carry around a specific pen. The purpose of these notebooks (this edition excluded) is, after all, to always have a notebook on hand whenever your thoughts strike you, not to be left stranded in a mire of ink-smeared thoughts because you left a crucial utensil behind.
As much as I like the durability, and as much as I wanted a notebook that would stand the test of time (and the trials of my purse), this was not for me. I purchased another three-pack which should get along with me a little better.
Extremley durable.

I'm a maintenance technician for Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky. There's a lot of stuff I need to remember but can't on some occasions due to it not happening every single day. So I usually have some quick tips and cheat sheets written down with me. I have used Walmart brand for a short while in my begging career. I work with a lot of weld dust, hydraulic fluid, grease, water and a lot of other things, and carry it everyday. I have been using the Field Note Expedition since May of 2016. This is how it looks. Looks like heck but has held up. All my notes I can still read no matter what. I will continues buying these and recommending these to any of my colleagues.
I found a pen that works with this adventure level notebook!

First off this notebook is amazing, it is waterproof it's like it was coated with a permanent Rain X or something! I haven't tried to see if the pages are Tearproof yet because that seems like when people tell you your phone has a built in scale... and then you stand on your phone(don't do that btw). I'd rather just be doing something adventurous and some animal claws at my notebook and I'm like "wow that didn't tear!" Than being in my house and trying to tear a notebook I just bought haha. So I just want to eleviate all of the pen concerns. As this is my first amazon review because I tried the pens they said and you still have to wait forever for the ink to write on this amazing outdoor pocket thinkpad right?! Like when your writing down an amazing idea outrunning an avalanche or feeding a family of bald eagles on a mountain peak do you really have time to wait 8 minutes for the ink to dry?! By then you have another thought or you have to solve word hunger or something right?! These notebooks are built for the adventurer or someone on the go. They are waterproof so I tried a pen that writes underwater and it dried almost instantly on this paper. Try the Gerber Impromptu Tactical Pen. It's wonderful for this book and a great form of self defense that passes as a regular pen. Also, if you ever need to jot down an idea under water(I'm not sure why you would but you could also be Indiana jones reading this review so whatever balances your boat I guesshaha), then this duo of the field notes notebook and that Gerber pen are wonderful together. I loved the pen btw this is a dual review. Write thoughts, fight off bears with the pen and feed the eagles. If you are going to write a review don't be dull lol. * if it is now illegal to feed eagles because of some odd law somewhere I claim no responsibility if you choose to feed the eagles nor do I claim any of you get attacked by an eagle. Find your adventure and write it down on this amazing notebook.

What I expect from a field notes book and more. I really love the feel of the cover and pages in regards to other types of notebooks since the paper always felt too flimsy and I lived in fear that I would get my book wet and ruin the contents inside. This book definitely has a rugged feel to it, and has been able to stand up to daily use in a front, back, and shirt pocket with only the color from the front starting to wear away after a couple of months. I wouldn't ding a star for that though, as I can't expect it to look good AND function as well as it does, that's just crazy.
I DID ding it a star because I tried to write on the paper with a Fisher Space Pen, the same pen used alongside most field notes books, and it smeared and transferred over the first few pages. Understanding that the book has plastic pages, I make sure to let the ink dry before there is any possible exposure to smearing or water in general. But as a test I wrote in a few pages, mostly scratches and doodles, and left it to dry for a few days. Afterwards I ran the booklet's pages underwater and looked for issues with the ink; I saw none. I slid the notebook back into my pocket and when I opened it up a few days later, the few pages of notes that I had scribbled in had transferred to the backs of the opposite pages and the ink had smudged everywhere. This would really be an issue if I wrote on the fronts and backs of each page like I'm sure some people do.
It doesn't take a genius to realize that you probably shouldn't be writing underwater then putting a notebook away wet, but it should be at least addressed for those who actually might be wanting to do that for whatever crazy reason. Otherwise the books are fantastic and it was a great little 3-pack for the purchase. Chances are I will be buying the same type next time around just because I love how well they hold up, ink aside. I'll just keep writing with a pencil instead!
Excellent, especially for the price

There are mostly good things to say about these.
Pros:
1. These are thin and lightweight. They fit nicely in pocket and I like to carry a notebook on me everyday.
2. Waterproof. The paper is somewhat plastic feeling to keep the water off. It hasn't been tested yet in that capacity but I'm sure it will be soon enough. I can say that it resists sweat quite well. I keep it in my pocket and lots of times sweat gets through when i go up stairs or something and it hasn't affected the notebook at all.
3. Dots. I thought the dots would be weird. They are actually quite nice because they allow you cowrite as if it were lined or if you like to draw then you can. I'm not a good drawer though.
4. Price. 3 for 10 bucks. That is a lot better than what you pay for rite in the rain and some other brands. So it is hard to beat on that front.
Cons:
1. Can't use pencil all that well. You still write in pencil but the pencil rubs off on to the other pages pretty easily. It's a small price to pay though for the waterproof capability. And to be honest, pencil is more likely to wash off in water anyways.
A waterproof pocketbook for lists and notes
by Yosef Levi (5 out of 5 stars)

Stats:
* at $13 for 3 notebooks --- $4.33 per notebook
* 24 sheets / 48 pages : 9 by 27 full dot squares : 8.2cm by 13cm full dot square dimensions (with the caveat that the top and the bottom rows are shorter)
Pros:
* received product matched description
* actually waterproof (tested under a sink)
* paper and cover feels plastic-like and extra durable
* under some conditions you can use both sides of the page
Cons:
* paper works with fewer pens than leading competitor (Rite in the Rain)
* kind of expensive for what appears to be purposed as a disposable everyday use pocketbook
Extra Comments:
* the small size means these notebooks are mostly good for small lists or notes -- but probably unsuitable for journal-type prose

I much prefer these for *actual* field work over similar Rite in the Rain products. Mind you, they are thinner (fewer pages) and the paper surface is more slick than RitR books, nor do they have all the nifty printed 'essentials' like tactical mission guides or troop leading procedures that you find in their competitor's notebooks. This is fine with me; I find them much more portable and am more concerned with their tactile (vs. tacti-cool) quality. I get a very nice glide with my preferred writing instrument (Paper Mate Sharpwriter #2 USA mechanical FOR LYFE), but others may find it annoying, as there is a greater tendency for smudging. On the other hand, this also means that erasing is within the realm of possibility, which may be a blessing if you happen to be the kind of person who occasionally makes a mistake. They also fit beautifully into close-cut pockets.
And yes, they stand up to a good soak and keep going.
