Works well if used properlyby charles (3 out of 5 stars)

There seems to be quite a bit of variance in the reviews of this product. This isn't the greatest product since sliced bread, but neither is it horrible junk.
If used properly, it certainly makes it easier to hang pictures - especially those with two holes or hooks . Using it is simple if you realize that this never holds the pictures.
1. Lay the picture on its front.
2. Hold this device with markings facing you and line up the center of this device with the center of the frame.
3. Place the long part of this device at the top of the frame and adjust the two shorter arms so the the hooks on the device engage the attachment points on the back of the frame
4. Tighten up the knobs
5. Remove the device from the picture frame
6. Place the device against the wall with the markings (and knobs) facing the wall.
7. Align the bottom of the long bar where you want the top of the picture to be
8. While holding the device against the wall, give the bottom of the short bars a firm tap. this will let the "nails" on the device mark the points where you will need to drill the holes (or where the bottom of the picture hanging hooks go if you use those)
The device doesn't need to ever hold a picture, so the arms don't need to be tightened to the point where they hold anything - they just need to not slip while you're holding the device against the wall (without a picture).
So why the three stars?
1. Markings on the back (at least a center point) would be nice. The level works but is a bit wonky at times. I always double check with another level.
2. Seems a bit pricey for what you get
3. The included picture hanging hardware is only suitable for hanging the lightest of pictures
Meh. Save your money.

Great idea but not super functional. Stopped using it after a few attempted uses. Using level on the device didn't result in straight hanging pictures. One of the spikes that sticks into the wall to show you where to put your nail/screw broke out on one side. Had trouble getting it back in to stay. Overall, it was more efficient and effective to use more tried and true methods of hanging pictures than to use this product, then have to re-do everything to get things straight. Thought about just living my life wearing only one shoe all the time so everything was on a slant and my pictures looked straight. But, ultimately decided just to hang the pictures straight and toss this product into the corner of the garage. Would return if I could. Is it too late? Wouldn't reccomend to a friend, or a stranger on the internet.
This is a neat tool but has some flaws. ...

This is a neat tool but has some flaws. The numbers should be printed on both sides of the long rail as they can be critical when trying to find placement on the mounting surface (wall, etc.).
Next, the long rail is many times too long if you're dealing with spaces inbetween wall triming. The inclusion of a short rail would be a bonus.
Additionally, the bubble level slides back and forth on the back side of the rail. This is a handy feature but there should be a way to ensure that it returned to the center of the long rail.
Lastly, the metal pins that make the indentations on the mounting surface should be slightly longer. As currently designed, it can sometimes be awkward in getting them make their indentations.
This product is a 5-star thought with a 3-star execution.
Doesn't work as advertised

I've always hung pictures the old fashioned way, meaning doing calculations and measurements on paper and then marking up the wall with pencil to find the right place for the nails. This is especially important when hanging multiple picture ina straight line. I thought and hoped this Picture Hanging Tool would change everything for me. Unfortunately that was not the case. The levels aren't entirely accurate when placing the tool on the wall, and our pictures ended up crooked. We read the directions multiple times trying to understand what was wrong. We followed all directions correctly. Maybe this works for hanging single pictures with a single nail/hook, but for more advanced situations where 2 nails are needed or 2+ pictures have to be lined up, skip this product.
Product not as advertised

I purchased this item a couple of months ago while my wife and I were preparing to move into a new home. It took sometime, but we finally got around to start hanging decorations on our walls (mirrors, pictures etc). I followed the instructions included with the tool and couldn't get past step 2 (leveling). My Hang it Perfect shipped without the advertised built in level. I searched through the box, thinking I missed an assembly step but did not find a level. The online "how to" videos explain that the level is built in-the manufacture must have missed a step before sending my Hang it Perfect. Thankfully I own a small bubble level but it is awkward to hold the level and the Hang it Perfect while trying to punch the guide holes into the wall. I would not recommend this item.
Not Level!

My wife and I were really exciting that we found a product like this to help us hang out mirrors and pictures in our new house. I put anchors into the wall to hang our picture using Hang It Perfect, only to find out the leveler was off! I now have huge holes in my wall because the incorrect leveler made my mirror hang crooked. I confirmed this by testing it with another leveler I had in my tool kit. It's a great idea for a product, but it doesn't work because it won't be level!
Product doesn't work for most important hanging projects

Excited to get this product to help with hanging large pieces with 2 hanging spots near top edge of frame. Unfortunately, the product totally let me down. The knobs that tighten the adjustable pieces stick out an inch or so and go against the wall, just above the "nail-like" thing that is to mark the wall. In my multiple art pieces where the hanging spots are at the top edge of the art, it is impossible to make the dimple with the device. I wasted an hour trying to hanging one piece of art, only to be forced to go back to the old fashioned way of measuring and trying to install hangers/nails speaced appropriately apart and level. I had already thrown the shipping box out when product arrived or i absolutely would have returned it. The online video is very fast and not helpful at all. I watched it 10 times and made sure i had the product oriented the right way, etc. Thank goodness i ordered a different hanging aid which WAS helpful for simple one nail/hook pieces. Dont waste your $$ if you have art where hanging parts are at top edge of art,
Don't expect too much and the level is no where near accurate.

I have owned this tool for several months now and have tried to use it multiple times. It is cumbersome to use and is not usable on some types of wall hangings. The level is now where near correct. I found that out the hard way after a very difficult job. It worked well on a picture frame with a wire (and you don't need the level for this type) I would not recommend this hanging tool to anyone. The idea is great but the design needs some work.
Only used once so far and keeping an open mind

I only used once so far and it was for hanging a 48 inch wide line dry rack on the wall that has the typical back mounting with the larger holes to slide over the screw mounts then sliding down into the narrow channel and tightening down.
I triple checked the sizing and each time the points were dead center of the mounts when matching up to the back of the drying rack. When I tried mounting the rack the screws were too far apart by half an inch so it was impossible to get both screws in the holes to slide down and mount. I immediately matched it up on the floor again to the rack and they were dead center so I'm not sure how it was off so I will be sure to update my review after next use for accuracy.
Overall it feels like good strong durable quality and the two adjustable bars even when not tightened down will be at perfect 90 degree angle so no guess work on adjusting which is nice. At this point I'm going to say that the problem I had was "human error" and I must have moved it slightly in between pressing in both points but will know for sure after next use
Great concept, poor execution
by Hector (3 out of 5 stars)

While the concept is amazing and definitely could make picture hanging a whole hell of a lot easier, there are a few things that would make this a guaranteed five star item.
1) The main cross bar is too thin to accommodate thicker frames.
After laying picture face down and lining up the hanger tool at the top of a thicker frame on the same surface, the two bars that come down over the frame end up at a upward angle since they are attached to the main bar which is lower than the frame. This was the case for 90% of the pictures I hung up. So if you have basic thin frames you should not have this issue but if you are planning on hanging canvas or any frame thicker than your basic frames it will not take long before you get frustrated and decide that a you need some liquor to help make the process more enjoyable.
2) Measurement markings.
For those of us that pay attention to detail and prefer to try and get things as perfect as humanly possible, not having the markings on the back side(which is the side you see when finding placement on the wall) makes absolutely no sense to me. Maybe I'm setting up a series of photos and I want to keep them a certain distance from each other. Having those marks where I can see them while holding this tool on the wall will make my life a whole lot easier. Which leads us to number three.
3) Center location
When hanging frames that are wire hung or hung from center of the frame it would be nice to know that I'm perfectly centered on the main bar. Maybe adding some sort of notch or a hole that the screw will line up and set in when centered.
At the end of the day I found it faster to just go back to using a tape measure and pencil for marking my spot...
