This rides around on the underside of the brim of my cowboy hardhat. It's just enough light when I need it where I need it without being so bright I blind coworkers if I look up while it's on. While I haven't tried it on a fabric brim, on my hard plastic brim it tends to slide off if it catches on anything even a little, and the metal clips are just a bit too bendy to really prevent that. I ended up pillow-rolling a couple of small pieces of gaff tape and stuck them between each end of the light and my brim. Haven't had a lick of trouble with it escaping since then. Decent product overall, but be aware of its tendency to make a break for it unexpectedly.

Does Exactly What It Was Meant To Do
by WanJae (5 out of 5 stars)

Nite Ize makes pretty cool stuff. Their products are often simple and thrifty, but also economical and useable. The Brimlit is made mostly of high density foam. Yep, foam. This allows it to bend and flex to fit the bill of your cap.

There's an internal button in the center of the device that allows you to toggle between off, high, and low beams. You just squeeze the foamy center, and the button clicks. To change the batteries, you peel open the two halves of the foam shell (closed with velcro). I realize I'm making it sound cheap, and it is cheap in the sense that it's inexpensively made, but it's not in the sense that the level of quality is quite appropriate. You're not going to break this or wear it out. If you look at the design problem that Brimlit is trying to solve, this is about the simplest and most elegant solution you could come up with.

I love the Brimlit and use it mostly when maintaining our race cars at night events. The light is neither terribly focused or terribly wide. I'd say it projects a useable 3' wide spot on the ground when you're walking around, but much beyond that range (the 6' or so from your head to your feet), the beam is too diffuse to be very useful (or to annoy others nearby). Obviously, objects close to your head get much stronger and more focused illumination.

Ultimately, when working with others in the dark, that's just what I want -- I want to see objects up close in fairly strong light, and beyond that, I just need enough light to be able to walk around without running into things.

If I had to change something, I'd make the "low" setting much lower. There's not a lot of difference between the high and low setting, so I don't get the point, although one of my teammates disagrees with me.

Gave as a gift and was well received. I, personally, thought it was a little cheap, but it's still in use a year later. I'd give it 3.5

Error in description of Batteries used.
by WTF Over (3 out of 5 stars)

Not a bad light but they list in the description Battery Type: 2-AA alkaline batteries, included and the unit they shipped uses 2 coin cell 2032 batteries. I ordered this unit to avoid the coin cell batteries and go with the more commonly found AA's. Not bad but not what I wanted. I'll keep it and look for a unit that uses AA or AAA batteries.

The flexibility of these lights to form exactly to the curve of the brim of a hat make them so much more versatile than their rigid hard case counterparts

The absolute best I have ever used and/or seen...over the past 20 years I've tried so many brim type lights...all plastic..clips and all...this has metal clips, ballistic nylon and Velcro closures...I can say without fear of contradiction that this is the best brim type light of the dozen or so I have purchased and used ever so briefly through the years...to failure and definitely breakage...Hard plastic and all........small, efficient, easy to use and flexible to fit ANY curve of ANY cap....I've already purchased a second one..these are an absolute 5 out of 5 Brim type light!!

I have this to my brother-in-law to use for walking his 2 dogs at night. It was so great that my sister wanted one and I ordered 2 more for my husband and my son - who runs at night. Fabulous item.
