I'm a former police officer and I can tell you this TASER is the real deal. I purchased this for my wife prior to a solo road trip out of town. She also has a 9mm pistol and has received training in its use as well, but I feel she is less intimidated by the TASER.....and you can carry the TASER in areas that prohibit concealed carry of a firearm (at least in my state). I would highly recommend purchasing the practice (blue ) cartridges. We bought them and I had my wife deploy one prior to actually carrying the TASER. The blue practice cartridge replicates the actual use of the Pulse TASER and served my wife well as a way to get acclimated to the device. The practice cartridge was dead on accurate at 15 feet ( the max recommended distance of use). Make sure you have a safe backdrop for the practice round! It is powerful. The built in laser and LED light performed well also. The laser was actually the best feature according to my wife. The included case is adequate for carry, but they have other options available if you don't care for the soft case. As far as price, law enforcement grade TASERs cost around $800 and go from there, so this is truly a pretty good deal for the quality of an actual TASER product. I was very impressed with this new model and will be buying one for my son soon. This would also be a great self defense tool for a security guard (if allowed of course). If your still on the fence, I would suggest doing further research on YouTube. I viewed numerous videos before I hit the buy button here. I am very happy with this model and highly recommend it. Please know that this is not a toy and carrying it comes with its responsible use.This is not some cheap Chinese stun gun.

I loved it initially however I'm having a problem with it right now because it is staying on like it wants to to discharge so I had to take the battery out ... I am currently trying to deal with the company who sells this product to resolve the issue I will post updates when that is complete

Great Defensive Weapon.

This device is quite impressive. There are a few cons that I have noticed. First, this does not have the yellow side stripes that mark it as a non-lethal weapon. This is nothing some yellow paint doesn't fix, but this is important so that it is not confused as a firearm, which could get you shot and killed. Another con is that the battery likes to rattle a bit as shipped- but this is nothing that a bit of foam doesn't fix. Another negative is that this doesn't ship with a proper holster, you have to order the holster separately. Now for the Pros: The initial discharge is a bit louder than you'd expect from the video clips, and this thing does not play- this is definately the real deal. I accidentally got hit with the arc in drive stun mode while testing, and It leaves a characteristic smell of electricity in the air. This also is relatively light weight, and feels nice in the hand. Please note that I have not received any compensation of any kind in exchange for this review.

Great concept, BUT...

I really like having the integrated "tactical light" and aiming laser included and all activated with a flick of the safety switch. I also like having a relatively affordable Taser, which has the capabilities and quality of the more expensive full-sized versions. But after the first month, I tested the product as recommended in the manual, to ensure it would be ready and functional in the event it was needed, and the battery was dead. I contacted the amazon seller, and he suggested I contact Taser, which I did. Taser provided a new battery. However, with questionable battery life and quality, an no way to keep it charged (these are non-chargeable) or keep it stocked with fresh date-stamped duracells, I really don't feel confident that it will work for me when called upon. Sure, I can buy one of their 30-something-dollar batteries every 1-2 years (they claim a shelf life of up to 2 years), but that's just a scam to keep the money flowing from sales of this model. So it's an Achilles heel! Great product, but hamstrung by not being reliably ready when you'll need it!!

Must be a drain on the battery because the new Taser Pulse we just got has a dead battery. I emailed the seller and waiting for reply. This looks like a possible class action. I ordered this for my wife, so hope they fix the battery drain or bad battery problem. Just think how many people will go to use this and it won't fire because the battery is low or dead. Would this be OK for your wife?

A great option and lots of niche uses.

At the current price of less than $300 this is a great option for a civilian taser. Thid has 15ft effective range and can drive stun. Many states will allow you to carry a taser into places you can't carry guns. For example into a bar or school. If you need to use a less than lethal option like a taser or simply point it at someone and give commands and threaten to use it, it is not considered brandishing a firearm, deadly conduct, or deadly force. I deemed it necessary to include it into my gym bag. Generally much more effective than pepper spray.

Several years ago I bought the Taser C2 (now renamed the Taser Bolt). It was OK but the ergonomics left much to be desired. In particular the sliding safety door that exposed the firing button was poorly designed and it was possible to accidentally fire the C2 after checking the battery status when the door was reclosed. This design flaw is eliminated in the Taser Pulse.

The Pulse looks, feels, and operates like a real gun. And that's what you want in a self-defense situation. You may not have time to think about it; you just need to grab your device and deploy it quickly. And on that point the Pulse succeeds. It also has front and rear sights like a real gun so aiming is natural if you're used to operating a handgun. The front sight is yellow which aids in rapid target acquisition and accurate shooting.

My only complaint is that when speed matters, you can't fire the Pulse until you flip the safety switch up. (The safety is necessary to prevent battery drain as well as mitigate against accidental firing.) But that takes time when seconds, maybe fractions of seconds, really matter. I'd prefer an integrated safety like you see on some of the real carry handguns. If I were designing it I'd activate the light & laser when a grip safety is depressed (by grabbing it in your hand) and fire the Taser when that plus a trigger safety is depressed along with the grip & actual trigger. Some carry handguns have similar mechanical safeties. I realize that would add a bit to the cost, but for not too much more money you can purchase a real firearm so a couple of extra bucks for a more sophisticated and faster safety system I don't believe is too much to ask. That's why I dropped one star. The design would be perfect, save for that one change.

If that doesn't bother you, then get the Pulse. Heck get it anyway. In a threatening but non-lethal situation, or in a state where carry of a real firearm for self-defense is not permitted, the Pulse may be the only thing standing between you, your family, and a violent attacker. Just make sure you practice often before you take it with you, because when the adrenaline kicks in, you won't be thinking clearly, and you'll react only like you train - nothing more.

This is my third Taser product. Like the other two (C2) it is a compact easy to use and does what it says it will do. I downed a would-be mugger and got my wife and myself away. She called the police and that was the end of what could have been a tragic incident. Now she has one of the C2's, my grandson has the other C2 and I have the Pulse. Got someone you love, get them one!!!
