Look for something else

Nice looking mount. But when I test fitted the black base into this mount, the fit was way too tight. I wrestled with it to release, using my hands at first, then tools, then finally the only thing that worked was my teeth!! Sheesh! I'm all for solid sturdy mount, but the thing needs to release easily. Going to return this.

Update...

Using an emery board, I sanded the surfboard mounting edges so the black base wasn't such a tight fit. All good now with a little modification.

So far so good!

Surfs up bro, wanna show everyone just how awesome you are? of course you why else would you be looking at these. Use these bad boys to attach your Go Pro and capture some epic footage. Be sure to follow directions and allow the adhesive the allotted 24hrs to bonds to your board. I didn't and as a result almost lost my Go Pro. Thankfully, I had the floaty attached and retrieved my camera. After, following directions and allowing the mount the proper time to bond to my board I have not had any other near disasters with my Go Pro and believe me I wipe out a lot and often fail to turtle roll on my long board and just dive under waves hoping my leash will bring my board to me.

Holding tight

So far, no issues with these mounts. From County Line, Ventura and Oxnard, to the Central coast; so far, not one mount has dislodged. I'll update after summer once we start our northern swell if there are any issues, but so far, no probs.

PS: On my winter boards I also placed a sheet of fiberglass and resin over the mounts with the slot for the camera left open. If I encounter any waves that rip it off, I'd be hard pressed to blame the mount as having them glassed in would mean the wave is just that gnarly. I truly believe the nose will break off before the mount does. If you don't want to go through the trouble of glassing in the mount, a little Solar-Rez overlapping the mount to the board should provide a little extra protection. Just be sure to sand a rough surface on both the board and mount before you do.

Update: With over a year using these mounts I have not had one come off (I have a variety of boards in my quiver from 9'6" to 5'8"). During the winter in overhead and double overhead surf I did have the buckle break three times and once the housing broke where the buckle screws in, but the mounts held every time and since the camera was tethered I didn't lose it.
**** These mounts only work on fiberglass & epoxy boards.

If you are planning on putting these on a soft-top or vinyl (liquid shredder) board, THE MOUNTS WILL NOT HOLD ****

Does NOT Work with Soft Boards
by Debra Houde (3 out of 5 stars)

These are basically just bigger versions of the GoPro sticky pads, with a backup in case it fails. As usual with GoPro, the quality is very high, and so is the price for what you're buying. I bought these as a beginner surfer, but I was unaware that it would not work with a soft board. It should work with any hard board, but it wouldn't stick at all to the board I was using, so it was basically a waste of $12 for me.

Disregard the good reviews. You may save your GoPro yet.

I looked at all the good reviews and bought the product. I cleaned my boogie board with alcohol and pasted the mount and safety mount. I also put a heavy book on top for several hours. The next day I took it out just to test it without the GoPro attached. The large mount where the go pro goes came off within 25 minutes. The smaller mount which is the safety came off 10 min later. Luckily I didn't attach my GoPro because I'm was waiting for the floaty to arrive.

I was surfing on 3+ foot waves, not even crazy conditions. Don't buy unless you're okay with potentially loosing your GoPro.

Don't Trust it 100%

Taking off a full 2 stars for instructions on how to attach the mounts - there are none. I can see why some reviewers experienced lost GoPros (I'm using them with my Sony AS100V) if they just slapped them on their board and hit the waves. You need to clean the boards and let the adhesive cure for 24 hours. I knew to look because I saw the reviews about lost cams and checked GoPros website for instructions (also found a you-tube video). Still, how can they package these mounts without including instructions?

On the other side, there is no way I'm trusting $250+ worth of equipment to two adhesives so those burned reviews have to take some blame. I couldn't get a floaty ($20) in time so I tie-wrapped a piece of Styrofoam to my cam before I went in the water. Not taking any chances. Does it look cheap? Yes. Does it work? Oh yeah. Better to have it and not need it than not have it and have $250 swallowed by the ocean.

Comes apart from sticky pad
by John Wayne (1 out of 5 stars)

I like that they made them smaller and you get two now. Before they were big and only got one. The bad thing is that the base came off the sticky pad along with my go pro. My fault I didn't have it tethered to the back up so I didn't write to go pro. But I lost my hero5 in the freezing cold water.

First one fell off in the first 24 hours
by MattSz (3 out of 5 stars)

I bought these before Thanksgiving and put one on my Surftech surfboard. The next day I took my board and camera out to the Cape and surfed some 5 foot beach break. During one wave my body bumped into the GoPro and the camera popped right off. It ended up being saved due to the safety cord, but my board got a nice ding from the camera hitting it. I've seen these being used by tons of surfers both amateur and pro so maybe they work well as long as there not bumped, but be aware that if the camera comes off that you may end up with a big ding in your board or without a camera.

Fell off...but I do have a cork top
by Maui Fox (3 out of 5 stars)
October 25, 2018

So I put mine on my surfboard with a clamp on it and let it sit overnight and its seemed to hold on fine until we were out in the water about an hour in when it just completely came off. Honestly it might just be my surfboard cause it's a cork top so its definitely not going to be as strong as on a more flat surface

Passed the test

My son has used these on both his surfboard and skim board. The seem sturdy and have stayed securely attached. The "back-up" security mechanism provides some added comfort that the $300 GoPro camera will not be lost in the Gulf of Mexico. By the way, once you attached this item, do not plan to remove it and use it on another piece of equipment. Just buy several mounts and keep them attached to the equipment.
