Works only if power cord plugged inby Pat C (5 out of 5 stars)

I used this with my iPad and it worked fine once I realized it required the power to be plugged in. At first I was not sure why it wasn't working and the little brochure it comes with isn't very well written. But I finally saw in small print where it said to plug the power cord in which I did and it worked. My last dongle didn't need the power cord plugged in to work but this one must in order to work. Unfortunately I had to scramble to find an extension cord because the power cord didn't reach where the outlet was.

So I just received this compact but solid little package last night. I charged it to my Mac Air and did a quick test w/my iPhone. It worked. Got home from work just a little while ago and decided to test further. So now I'm sitting in my living room with the speaker in my kitchen about 25 feet away. And with the iPhone I turn it on & off, turn the volume up and down; it just works! And at full volume it is quite loud. I'm in the house alone and there are no background noises so I've turned it down, otherwise too loud! This is one nice little package. And by using bluetooth, the iPhone becomes the remote; great.
The main reason for buying it was to replace a cheap one (other brand) I'd bought a couple of years ago that has failed and required AA batteries. And I needed to replace it for another big trip to Europe this summer. This will certainly fill the bill in terms of features (bluetooth and cabled), quality, volume and portability. I bought the 2 yr. warranty to be safe. So I look forward to using it around the house a lot more then I expected and have something great for travel. I was looking at several less expensive speakers and finally decided to spend a bit more and get a better unit; this one really fits the bill!
Really?

Seriously I wasn't expecting that much and thought I would be sending this back. No way! This is a keeper. The sound quality is unnatural for this tiny little thing. I just received it yesterday and used it on our deck paired to my Iphone 4s. I don't want to say "for the price" because I don' t think that is a fair way of evaluating a product. So lets start with the quality. The build is excellent and the look is very modern and attractive. The lighting and the disappearing touch controls on top are fun. The range seemed of bluetooth is excellent for my needs and the shrimpy little thing can be stashed anywhere. We tried a few different places like the deck box where it created a bass chamber effect, not huge but it was there. We found that you should turn the speaker up all the way and control the volume with your iphone, when it is turned up the little bugger danced across the wood table. I am excited about this purchase and couldn't be happier. It's priced right. It's great quality, and its very portable and quick to set up.
Wonderful little speaker!

My sister got a jambox for Christmas and I will admit I was jealous as soon as they got it working. I realized how nice it would be to have one. My iPhone has a case that kind of distorts sound and it is obnoxious to deal with cords. I had been doing that for a while to play music when I played with my one year old but he wanted to play with the cords. ANYWAYS - I could not afford a jambox and when I saw this for the price I was pretty skeptical. When I got it in the mail and charged it up I was stunned at the clarity and how easy it was to pare it with my phone and that it automatically pares every time I turn it on. I certainly wouldn't be able to use it at a house party but it is loud enough for me without any distortion. I waited this long to review it because I wanted to use it for a bit before I wrote a review. Honestly I would always recommend the Alpatronix over the jambox unless you want to pay extra for the name. The only complaint is when the battery goes low it does beep at you every minute. I would love a warning beep at say 10 minutes or so, but I am not going to lower the rating because of that.

I bought the AX400 because of all the high ratings and comments posted by Amazon. I want to thank those individuals for posting the many positive reviews. This little speaker puts out a sensational sound that matches and Supersedes other products that cost far more. If your looking for a good sound, and a very fairly priced speaker that wont cost you an arm and a leg, this may be the ticket for you. I hope that this commentary is helpful to both Alpatronic and future consumers. You have produced a product that I believe your consumers will be pleasantly surprised after purchase, delivery, and trial. I was, and I'm happy to spread the word, just as so many others have done before me. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. I'm sure many, many other consumers will feel the same way after purchasing this very pleasant sounding, very compact Bluetooth Speaker. Thanks.

Alpatronix AX400 bluetooth speaker

This is a very good, low cost, bluetooth speaker. It has two drivers, so it is approximately 2.5" x 2.5" x 4" in size, a bit larger than most low cost speakers with only one driver. The two drivers gives it a richer tone than the one driver speakers that I have. It also is about $10 more in cost than those speakers. If you crank it up to full volume, there is some noticeable distortion. But it isn't that objectionable to me, since I don't crank it up that high. I recommend it for use with a tablet or smart phone or any other device that supports bluetooth speakers. I use it with my iPad Air, but I don't use it with my iMac. The iMac speakers are more than adequate for internet radio or other music sources and superior to the bluetooth speakers that I own.
Portability is Great, Setup Easy

My favorite aspect of the AX400 is its portability. My electrical outlets are occupied to the max, so the wirelessness of the USB charging method is handy. I'm not quite sure how often I should charge it (no battery life indicator as far as I found so far) but so far it hasn't run out of power during use. I've only used it about 2 hours max at a time, though, charging it each time, perhaps too often. Really good sound; I'm sure it could be better with bigger speakers, but I appreciate the small overall size.
I like the rubbery texture -- helps prevent it from slipping out of my clumsy hands when transporting it from room to room. I have a small home, and have discovered that I can leave my mobile in the middle of my home, and can move it to all main rooms without problem, though I do notice when I walk by it, the sound sometimes cuts out, perhaps technically understandable.
Overall a fine addition to my technologically evolving household.
I love anything Totoro and now I have a matching bag ...

It arrived faster than shipping arrivals. This is so cute! I love anything Totoro and now I have a matching bag to go with my totoro pencil case :D
It is a little bit smaller than I thought it would be. I would say, it's the perfect size for a little kid, but for myself (grown woman, here), it's a bit smaller. I shall use this as a little handbag instead of those lazy-day-backpacks.
The material on the outside is very soft. The inside is made of cheap fabric, but considering it's under $10, I don't mind too much.
Great sound, easy to use.

After my old cd changer shelf system stereo started skipping on every disc I tried to play, I realized I needed a new sound system. Since they don't make inexpensive shelf systems like they used to, I realized my options were to go big or go digital. Since I wasn't prepared to spend upwards of $500 on a fancy schmancy sound system that was well beyond my needs, I went the digital route.
I had read a few reviews of bluetooth speakers, and the Alpatronix seemed to be the winner in many people's opinions, so I thought I would give it a shot. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT.
The way I use this product is as follows, I connect via bluetooth to the Alpatronix from my laptop (Dell, Windows Vista, I use a USB bluetooth adapter since my laptop is not bluetooth-ready). After the initial connection, every time I turn the Alpatronix on, it automatically connects to my laptop as long as I have the bluetooth adapter in and the laptop is on. I sometimes will have to go into my sound settings and make sure the Alpatronix is set as the default playback device.
I have only streamed music from iTunes. I have an android phone, but I downloaded a free iTunes remote in the Google Play store called "Retune" and connected my phone to my iTunes library. After this setup, I can skip/pause/queue songs all from my smart phone. I can also adjust the volume directly from my phone.
The only issue I experience is that if the Alpatronix is not set as the default playback device when iTunes is opened on my laptop, it will not play music through the device, even if all other sounds from the laptop are playing through the Alpatronix. When this happens, I close out of iTunes and open it again, and the problem fixes itself. This seems to be an issue with iTunes, not the Alpatronix
The sound is great. I can carry the device from the living room (where I have my laptop) into the dining room/kitchen/bathroom all with no problem. I haven't tested the range for when the bluetooth connection would die out, but even if I had, I wouldn't know if that was specific to the device or the bluetooth adapter I use.
The Alpatronix was smaller than I had anticipated. Looking back at pictures, I should have been able to accurately determine the size, but regardless, it has more sound quality and volume than you might expect for something so compact.
I use this product regularly and absolutely love it. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a bluetooth music streamer. Although I haven't had experience with any other device, I have absolutely no desire to go looking for anything different, as this is perfect for me.
Great Sound and Blue Tooth Convenience

Nice Design - functionally and visually. Connected to my iPad 2 via blue tooth with no problem. Blue tooth even stayed connected with the speaker upstairs and the iPad downstairs. Love the ability to control the music volume, pause, FFWD/RWND from the speaker with the iPad in a different location. The 3.5mmm wired connection was useful for one of my older laptops that does not have blue tooth. Sound quality is good for a speaker of this size...definitely better than any laptop speakers, especially the bass response. Not sure how the sound directly compares to the new Bose equivalent but at 1/5th the price I think this is a great value. The Blue Tooth functionality and the Stereo sound is worth the extra money vs other mono wired speakers. Definitely would recommend this speaker if you are looking for a improvement in sound quality and convenience vs tablet/laptop speakers.
