These are neat. Takes a few minutes to calibrate, but then they started working as advertised. Only complaints are that they are noisy and the ear clip hurts after awhile
Update: I liked these so much, I bought another set for my wife to go to anime events. I don't have enough hair to hide the mechanism, so I bought a wig. To my surprise, it continue to work through the holes in the wig. I guess since the ears never wrap all the way around, it doesn't get tangled in the hair. At anime festivals, there are always a few panels where a local professor discusses Japanese culture. I like standing at the back of the room with the wig and ears. It perplexes the professors to see the ears move.
Unfortunately, the ear clip is made of cheap plastic. The plastic bearing broke on both sets after a year. The price seems to have doubled since I bought them, so I am attempting a repair using eyeglass washers, rubber bands and epoxy.
Update: The repair worked.. The real problem is that the spring inside the ear clip is way too powerful. When you wear the ears, it actually hurts your ear after awhile. Anyway, that spring actually pulls the ear clip apart. I don't know this for a fact, since both my sets have broken ear clips, but I think if you wrap a rubber band a couple of times around the end of the ear clip so that the contacts are barely touching, the ear clip will be under compression and less likely to fall apart. They will also be more comfortable. The way my ear clips shattered was that the half with the inner bearing was fine. The half with the outer bearing had the top of the bearing crack off. So, I made a new shaft by cutting a paper clip with a set of pliers. I thread the shaft through the clip half with the good bearing and placeed that on top of the half with the broken bearing. Then I put 5 minute epoxy on the outer portion of the broken bearing and slid eyeglass washers on either side of the shaft pushed them against the epoxy coated bearing. So, the epoxy is going to bind the washer, the shaft, and broken bearing together. I held it in place for 4 minutes, then kept tapping the clip in case some of the epoxy leaked onto the inner bearing. Didn't want that glued together. After setting overnight, I just wrapped a rubber band 3 times over the shaft to provide the tension. You can scootch the rubber band a bit to adjust the tension. Discard the original spring. It was the cause of the problem in the first place. Just use the rubber band. This repair has held up for 2 anime events so far and still seems good.
Could be better but still a fun novelty toy

I don't really think it has anything to do with brainwaves as advertised as the movement seems to just loop/repeat after "syncing." All of those bulky pieces are annoying to hide for cosplay plus it's a bit heavy. For only taking AAA batteries the casing is huge, plus it chews through them so I highly recommend a good pair of rechargeable batteries. The motors that move the ears are also quite loud. It would be more worth it if they were less expensive. I am also lucky that I have a small head because there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust them- also the ears "hover" a little and don't sit quite flush to my head with the band. The foam ears they came with are also just faux fur covered triangles with no depth so in the near future I plan to make my own for more realistic looking ears. I had expected more based on how they were advertised but they are still a fun toy.
Our 4th grade teacher showed us a japanese commericial about it and I was like: Some day I want that

Fluffier than I thought.. I was SOOO Excited for this! I've actually wanted this since I was in 4th grade really... Our 4th grade teacher showed us a japanese commericial about it and I was like: Some day I want that.. And here I am with them! <3 Best Product ever that I have ever bought in my whole entire life! :D Although, I don't really know how long it lasts but I know I don't really care. I love them so much! (But note to self: Don't wear them for a long time.) The part where you clip this thing onto your ear-lobe, It hurts quite a while. So here's advice: If you're not going to use it for more than 10 minutes, I'd say to turn it off then let your ears rest for a bit, Then put it back on and turn it back on. Thanks NeuroSky/Necomimi for making this product! I enjoy it so much! I can't thank you enough... (Ignore my mug face lmao)
They wiggle a lot and will delight any crowd.

I ordered two, but one was broken upon opening. The ear clip electrode was completely trashed. OK, so these are a fairly simple EEG device and uses one electrode over the left eyebrow and the ear clip. With fresh robust 4 AAA batteries, the ears really do move quite a bit. When positioned correctly, they will calibrate and then start moving. Do they really reveal your thoughts? Uh...no, but they are cute and will definitely light up any party. You will get loads of stares, giggles, lots of questions and requests to do things with your thoughts. They will also immediately state that they want one as well!
They are unique and very novel. They will open an instant conversation about brain EEG and neuro-oscillations. For the price, do get these for anyone fascinated by neuroscience.
Some other comments. The electrode is rather difficult to position correctly, the battery pack is kinda tough to get off, the unit will drain batteries very quickly and the gears grinding is really bothersome after a while. they are packaged beautifully and with great instructions, but sadly, the science behind these are really very sketchy as to what exactly they are sensitive to, why they work, etc. The online description of the science is missing as well. But hey, they wiggle and look cool.

ear piece came BROKEN!!! they must've sold us the last of their defective crap because i see now it is no longer available. what a shame, my daughter was so EXCITED FOR THIS! the ears would not move properly without the ear sensor. it was broken right out of the box!! EDIT: given it two extra stars for customer service. they were amazing and helped me out right away. The ears seem to honestly move in a pattern and follow that same pattern over and over again, I don't really think they are really reading brain waves but my daughter loves them and doesn't seem to mind. both sets of ears did the same thing so I am pretty sure that is how they are meant to work. they took over 8 minutes to calibrate....
Cute and perfect

These necomimi seem to work great. The twitch and rotate and I did notice that when I became focused on one thing (namely something happening on the TV that caught my attention) they did one singular motion twice and not the initial pattern when I first turned them on. I haven't used them for very long just yet but I will be using them over the weekend for my birthday and again for Halloween. They seem to be made for slightly larger heads than my own but still fit comfortably. If you position them properly there's not discomfort with wearing them. We'll see how long the AAA batteries last for me. Oh... don't let a cat near the actual ears... mine tried to eat them.
Rough start but very good product in the end.

My son's first pair ended up falling apart at the ear sensor. The return was quick and painless. The second pair has been with us for some time and work incredibly well. He loves them and told me to put 5 stars. Impressive product over all.

These things are awesome and cute!
WARNING: The ear clamp is flimsy! After four RESPONSIBLE uses, the hinge on the ear clap broke. Not to mention the metal pin of the hinge has nothing to keep it from sliding out. My advice for the hinge, a droplet of crazy glue on both of the outer sides of the clip to keep the pin in place to be safe. OR a snippet of tape on both sides just to be safe. I'm just a worrier

I originally got these and the custom foam for my Cyan cosplay. They worked great and were a hit. I just had to style the wig to hide all the mechanisms. The forehead sensor does bend to make it easier to hide. It took a bit to get use to the extra weight. I started out with fresh batteries and only had to change them out once over an eight hour period.
Garbage - don't waste your money!

These have not worked since day one. My daughter used her Christmas money to buy these. They would never sync properly. She tried many times. Finally she decided to wait a few weeks to try again. Still nothing. Now it's past the point of return. A hard lesson to learn for a child. Very disappointed!

This was a Christmas present for my niece, who loves cats and all things anime. Naturally when I saw these I knew that she would want them and boy did she light up seeing them! She adores how they actually do respond to her emotions and tries to watch the ears as they move on her head. It's hysterical for both of us!
