Product Description
This item is a model miniature of the Spaceball One ship from the 1987 Star Wars comedy spoof, Spaceballs. This model was created for wide shots in the film, where the ship would need to appear small in frame. It is believed to be the model seen in part of the shots where the ship blasts away from the camera, becoming very small in frame. Two models of this ship were made for the film, a massive 17 ft version and this smaller version, measuring 40" x 8" x 4". The model is constructed of styrene and resin, and detailed with kit bashed model parts. It features fiber optic lighting throughout (untested), and has a mounting point on the underside. The three main engines on the back of the ship also have lightbulbs in them. There is a separate top "Vacuum cleaner" section of the model, which is detachable. In the film, the Spaceball One transforms into "Megamaid", and she holds the Vacuum cleaner. There are also fiber optics in this smaller piece. Spaceballs spoofs much of the design of Star Wars, and this ship is based roughly on the design of the Rebel Blockade Runner. The effects work was done by Apogee, and much of the model building crew were veterans of Star Wars! This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
