This is great. I use it most week days for a single cup, because it's quick and easy and can make a great cup of coffee if you do a little homework and trial and error. We make a big pot in our coffee press on weekends, but that is too time consuming for days I have to get to work. You can brew this right in your travel mug too, so very convenient. I've been using it over a year now, and it is not showing any signs of wear. I gently hand wash it mostly, but run it through the dishwasher a couple times a month. This has a wide rim, so will fit your big, oversized mugs too. My typical brew: add grounds (med-fine) to filter, bring water to a boil then let it cool for 45 seconds, pour over coffee slowly until you are at the desired water level in your cup, let steep 3 & 1/2 min, using last 30 sec to gently give the grounds in the filter a stir and lift to sift water through a few times. Then remove filter and enjoy. Play with your grind level to see how fine you like it. I wouldn't go to the finest level, as you will get a thicker layer of silt, but it can handle a fairly fine grind like a champ.
folds up but allows some residue into your coffee.

I liked the concept that this can be folded flat. I purchased this as a possibility for backpacking. Think I will go with the s.s. cone that I reviewed too.
First, The nylon filter allowed more residue into the pot and thus the cup than the ss cone. But less than my old nylon cone filter. I would recommend a tighter weave.
Second, It weighs more than the ss cone. 1.15 oz vs. 0.561 oz. For those of you paying attention, that is more than twice the weight. I really expected stainless steel to weigh more than plastic. But the ring is thick and heavy and way over engineered, even for me. My DIY ring/platform is a soda cup lid from your local fast food shop.I used the straw hole to pass the rubber tube through, then attached it with an "O" ring. But that weighed 2.00 oz and I wanted to go with something lighter and could fold up.
Pros: it does fold up and is compact. easy to clean. I can invert it and deposit the grounds into my compost bin. A little back washing and you are done. It fits the stanley adventure pot, a canteen cup, a regular cup.
Love it! Perfect for backpacking but also great at home.

Love this! I picked one up before going on a three week trip to New Zealand that included a number of nights in camping huts and hostels. I usually use a french press but tried the Brew Buddy in order to save weight and space. It is just so easy to use, clean and makes a great cup of coffee. I used both as described by putting it over the cup I would drink out of but also used it by steeping the coffee in a separate container then using the Brew Buddy to filter out the grounds into a coffee mug. Many of the hostels had instant hot water in their kitchens which meant a hot cup of coffee in under five minutes.
I now often use this at home when I want just a single cup/mug of coffee. You will need to experiment a bit to figure out the best mix of amount of grounds and time to match your tastes but that's the same with any coffee maker.
A few things to be aware of, none of which reduce the rating in my opinion: You need to fill your cup/mug all the way up with hot water. If you have a twelve ounce mug, you can't make just eight ounces since the filter bag won't hang down into the water. Also if you want to make a large amount - say 16 to 20+ ounces, using a wide & short container like a pyrex measuring glass works better than a tall & thin travel mug. Finally, a clear cup/mug makes pouring the right amount of water easier to see but it was really no problem to fill the water in several pours and check the level between each one.
And these are so inexpensive I had bought two of them. That ended up being a smart move since I left one behind at a hut on the way to Milford Sound. I hope whoever picked it up realized how useful it is for the rest of their hike.
Handy single-cup brew system!

This coffee brewer is clever and was so handy for making a cup of coffee on a recent trip. I don't use it at home but will always carry it when we travel in our RV because I don't have the space to take my Keurig single-serve unit along. The only negative about the Brew Buddy is having to dump out the coffee grounds and rinse out the remaining grounds. It is messy to dump and handle and in an RV where water is limited and cleaning up messes is something to avoid, it is a little disappointing. But I don't know what other way it could be designed to eliminate that problem and I will always take it along when we travel. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
Great Little Pour-Over Coffee Brewer!

Bought one for myself and one for my sister. I have only recently started drinking coffee, and as I'm really only a one-cup-of-coffee-a-day kind of person, having a coffee machine doesn't make any sense. This single-serve brew filter is amazing! It's so much easier than using a regular paper filter. My sister has been a pour-over brewer for years, using paper filters, and when I gave her this filter, she told me it has "revolutionized her life." Yeah, my sister is a little dramatic, but needless to say, she loves this thing, too. Easy to hand wash, and fits almost any cup. This is well worth the little money you have to pay for a dramatically easier and faster pour-over brewing experience.
Easy and good.

I LOVE this thing, in fact I think I'll order another for work. Makes a great single cup of coffee that's MUCH better than instant coffee. Defnitely worth the price. Easy to use, durable, washable, simple. Not sure why more people don't use this, unless you like several cups of coffee a day. I only drink one cup a day, and I don't like using plastic-y coffee makers, the red ring on this IS plastic but it never touches the coffee. The filter part is nylon, you just pour hot water over the coffee grounds in the filter and there ya go.
Very Disappointed!

I really wanted to like this item, but I don't. When I removed it from the packaging the first thing I saw was a lot of loose thread ends. Looking closely at the mesh I saw that it had been stitched, stitches removed and re-stitched, leaving all sorts of loose ends and a hole in the mesh between two needle holes. I tried it out anyway. I was able to place 14gr of ground coffee (for my 18oz mug) in the sack but had to pour the water incredibly slowly or it would overflow all over the place. I ended up putting hot water in the mug and placing the filter in it to steep. That worked, but not well. Lots of silt in the mug even though it's a very fine synthetic mesh. The last problem, and the reason I tossed this cup of coffee out without tasting it, as it had a very odd and unappealing chemical/plastic smell to the finished coffee. Great in theory, very poor execution of this product. Save your time, coffee, and money and buy something else.
I'll just have another cup...

So my husband and I don't drink coffee, but my parents and brother love coffee. We never wanted to get a coffee maker for one or two times a year. We got a French Press at first, and everyone likes the coffee it makes. Now last year they came and we used the French Press and they liked it, but I noticed it seemed like a pretty tedious process for just two people wanting coffee. I got online and started looking for alternative ideas. I found these little gems and thought, at the price, how could I go wrong. My parents came over for Thanksgiving this last week, and they loved these! My mom kept making more coffee for herself. She went on and on about how good the coffee was with them. She even got two for my brother and his wife this year for Christmas! All in all a great purchase and totally worth it.
Works as advertised and seems of quality, I'd recommend.

I have a Hamilton Beach single serve coffee maker that I've never quite gotten to make a dark brew (just use it for making hot water now since I have no microwave). Got this to see if I could get a darker cup and it works for that purpose. It takes a few minutes with my coffee maker water to get there and it's a bit harder to get powder creamer to dissolve because of that (again, I have no microwave). I'm sure I could solve that by using actual boiling stove-heated water, but just haven't tried it out yet. Will update if I do and it doesn't work.
Other than that, no grounds in the coffee afterwards and this fits my wide variety of cups. Used it about a dozen times so far and it seems to be holding up well.
I have purchased so many of these I've lost count.

I absolutely love the ease of use of this product. You just can't go wrong for the price. This will make the most simple cup of pour over coffee you will ever have. Easy clean up. I keep one at my work desk; one in the kitchen; one in the camper (actually I think there are two in the camper); one in my car; I've given 3 away as gifts to friends who admire them; I have one in my travel bag; one in my emergency bag; and a couple spares in case more friends express admiration. NOT ONE has failed as of yet. All the netting is still in tact and I've used most of mine for over 2 years - every single day. I got rid of my Keurig once I was convinced these would work.
