Fairly cool product. Here's the deal: the item is small packets made of plastic about the size of an instant hot chocolate pack, but more rectangular. You toss a packet in your fire, and as the fire starts to burn through the plastic, the material inside ignites and you start to see blue and green flames in your fire. The effect is neat. We used it for a fire in our fire pit during camping. To really get a cool effect you'll have to use more than one pack at a time because the effect is pretty localized on the area you threw the pack in and the packs are relatively small as mentioned before. We cut open a pack, and the material inside looks like blueish sand. We wanted to see if we could get the effect by pouring this sand directly on the fire or spreading in all over the wood, but no luck!! Not sure what is so special about the bags. They seem to be just tough plastic. But the sand only seems to burn well if it is inside the bag, as per the directions from the manufacturer. Regardless, the effect was fun. We enjoyed using it and added a little ambiance to the ghost story telling! Also, because the effect was created by chemicals, we DID NOT cook any food over the open flames. You should probably cook any hot dogs or marshmallows first before you decide to use this product. I'd buy this again because it wasn't too expensive and it added a little fun to our fire.

So mesmerizing and awesome! First, DO NOT open the package, just throw the entire packet directly onto flames. I recommend using 2-3 packets for a brilliant color show. We brought so many board games camping and ended up just staring at the fire and stars all night while chatting. Also, BE PATIENT. It takes a little while for the colors to come into effect, it's not instantaneous. We actually thought it was a dud until about 20 minutes later when so many colors started appearing and we added logs to the fire. You need a decent size fire to really enjoy it. I definitely recommend it for camping and backyard fire pits.

These are a lot of fun. Please note that you need to use more than one packet at a time if you have a decent sized fire going The effects will last 15-20 minutes. It is important to situate the packages on a piece of wood. Don't let it fall through the cracks. The product works by melting and adhering to the wood.

I have bought Funky Flames before and it was super disappointing. From now on I am only buying Mystical Fire Extreme's packets, the colors were vivid and lasted quite some time. You will see green, blue, purple, and I even saw some dark red.

These things are so awesome!! HUGE hit with the kids, can't wait to take some camping, the colors are gorgeous! We've been using them for about a month now. Teal, greens, and blues are visible toward the top parts of the flames, and in the innermost parts of the fire, you can see ultraviolet and deep pinks - ordering 2 more right now and will be using these all summer!

Mystical Fire Colorant is amazing. For a really fun experience, get some of these for your next camping trip. As if a campfire needs improvement... but this stuff is really neat. I'd say the adults love it even more than the kids. It's tough to capture the brilliant colors in a photo, but I these are the best of the pictures I took. We only used one packet and the colors were so good--seems like they lasted at least 20 minutes. There was even color left in the ashes the next day. We will never go camping again without several packs of Mystical Fire on hand.

Pretty cool effect, makes for a fun talking piece at night while camping. It's even funner to use when some of your camping mates are drunk and spend the better part of the night amazed that you could make the fire different colors somehow. lol

I left stars off because the packaging and advertising leaves you with the impression that each individual packet would be a completely different color. Actually, all of the packets are the same color and the fire only varies in color slightly...never going true red or yellow...but more like a pale green to blue etc.

Still, we had fun with them. Not sure I would buy them again, or may look for a different brand that can offer more colors.

Waited until after a camping trip with a few bonfires to review. These packets are better than any other products I've tried. The effects are very long lasting (until the fires actually went out), and the colors are bright and easily seen. Wide array of blue and green flames we're seen throughout the fire. I used three packets per fire, and look forward to the next chance I get to use them. Where they are so long lasting, I suggest roasting your mashmallows, etc. prior to adding them in - I do not know how it is safe it is to be cooking over these pretty flames. I will certainly be purchasing more.

I bought this to use at my Harry Potter party to make the goblet of fire. I threw a whole packet in (do not tear open packet, just throw in the whole individual packet) but I think it was placed in a not so great place because there wasn't much effect. I threw a second one in making sure it landed in a good burning spot. Then we got some good blue/green flames going. It doesn't turn the whole fire but a good section if you place it in just right. It's burning chemicals (SCIENCE!) so be sure to get any cooking done before you add the packet. The next time I tried it I once again needed to use two packets instead of one. Maybe it's personal preference but I will always plan on using two individual color changing packets per fire.

Bought these for a family vacation as something fun for the kids - EVERYONE was enthralled with the colored flames! There are plenty of packets to use so we got about 5-6 fires out of them. Just remember that you should throw these on AFTER you do your marshmallow roasting! I figured these would last 10-15 minutes, but it seemed to last forever! I started timing it and beer got the best of me so I forgot to end the time but it was quite a while!

Just something fun for the kids (and adults) sitting around the fire to look at!
