Total breakfast bliss in 10 minutes or lessby crash2311 (5 out of 5 stars)

I am certainly a gadget guy so when this showed up at the house I got the standard chuckle from the wife. Once I fired this puppy up and produced a perfect breakfast sandwich and a mini omelet in less than 10 minutes the laughter turned to awe. This isn't rocket science but the time saved in cleanup more than justifies the $59 price tag. I eat low cal and she eats low carb and this machine works for us both.
1) English muffin 143 calories
2) Large egg 74 calories
3) 2 slices canadian bacon 50 calories
4) 1 slice cheese 70 calories
Complete breakfast ready in 10 minutes 337 Calories. Low sodium and completely delicious.
1) 2 scrambled eggs 148 calories <1 carb
2) 2 slices of cheese 140 calories <1 carb
3) 3 slices canadian bacon 75 calories <1 carb
1) Scramble the eggs in a bowl as you would for an omelet
2) Grease the egg cups with butter, pam, or oil (very important for egg release and easy cleanup) and add 1/2 the mixture to each egg greased egg cup along with 1 1/2 chopped canadian bacon slices.
3) Fill the water just over the medium poached egg line, add to the machine and start the cooking.
4) In a few minutes the light will go off completing the cooking cycle. 5) Add a slice of cheese to the top of one of the cups and leave in the steam until melted.
6) Remove the un-cheesed (a new word) cup and add the cheesed cup on top so the cheese is in the middle like a savory egg oreo.
7) Add another slice to the top and you are done with a stacked canadian bacon cheesy quick omelet.
This entire process takes 10 minutes! No pans to scrub!
Cleanup is easy and all of the ingredients cook/heat up at the same time. The toast stays down and warm and doesn't pop up until the egg is done. If you are counting calories/carbs or just love delicious savory breakfast on the fly this is an absolute no brainer.
Awesome appliance. Makes egg muffins wonderfully

Awesome appliance. Makes egg muffins wonderfully. The included little pans are pretty flimsy and many people have raged against them, so I bought 2 loge-brand cast iron skillets which fit well in their place. That said, spray whatever pan you choose to use with some cooking spray. Today I put in 6 FROZEN sausage links in the top with the pans under to catch any drippings (wouldn't hesitate to make the eggs at the same time as the sausage would add flavor to the eggs) Added the normal amount of water, pressed the egg and in 5 minutes the links were hot and ready. I doubt there is a more economical way to make a quick breakfast, and poaching without any oils or butter is definitely a healthier choice. I have been starting this with a muffin, egg and piece of canadian bacon before my morning shower and when I'm out and ready to leave, the eggs, ham and bacon are ready to assemble, still hot as the poacher holds heat for quite awhile. Anyways, if you are addicted to Egg McMuffins, this will save you money and frustration. Now all I need to do is figure out to make Hollandaise Butter for benedicts-to-go.
Nice Idea And Works Great

This is a great concept. Everything works great on it. The instructions didn't say WHICH side of the bread gets toasted, when it's on the setting to toast just one side. You have to find that one out the hard way. We did discover that just putting a little butter in the skillets does NOT keep the eggs from sticking like crazy to it. I found out that if you take some butter and coat the entire inside of the skillet (including the sides), then the egg doesn't stick at all. We used the little "petite" ham steaks in ours. It makes the ham VERY tender. The only problem I've noticed is that lately, if you don't unplug it after using it, one of the corners starts heating up around the edge between the molded plastic and the metal toaster plate. We haven't had it all that long and I don't know how much longer it's going to last. This taster is probably best suited for someone who lives alone. If you've got several people, you're better off just using a regular skillet on the stove. You have to clean the egg section out between each set, which means you eat in shifts. I would recommend this though. It really is a great idea. It does take up about the same amount of counter space as a toaster oven, so if you don't have much counter space, this one's size might be an issue.
Not horrible, but not great. Hope you like well-done eggs.

So, this is a great toaster. Even coloration, nice and wide slots, great controls and pretty solid. The cooker portion is pretty good too, if you aren't picky about your eggs. If you like your eggs well done, this is the thing for you. If you want a better-than-MickeyD's, this is the thing for you. I would toast an english muffin and steam (poach, the instructions say, but it's not poaching), you can add cheese and, say canadian bacon or salami. Very nice.
That being said, the toaster and the cooker do not work well at the same time. When I tried, the toast was untoasted even at the highest setting. I suspect this is the source of complaints of "toaster doesn't work". When I did the cooking and then toasted (or vice versa), it worked great. Also, there is absolutely no way to get a medium or soft egg unless you mean soft whites. I like my whites cooked and my yolk runny, but the yolk is more sensitive to the heat (steam) and cooked first.
Engineers did not think this out well, if the intention was to cook all at the same time. It's still a good machine, but not really worth that price.
Good all around, but not for toast aficionados.

I bought this from Amazon about 18 months ago, and it has been used pretty much every day since the day it arrived. Since this appliance does many things, I'm going to break each of them down individually, and then sum it all up as a whole:
Toast:
I have friends who are fanatics about toast. By this I mean that they are picky about their toast, and have expectations about the evenness of the toasting, the level of browning, and the softness and/or chewiness of the inside of the bread. I am not one of these people, but if you are, then I would say that this is probably not the toaster for you. While I use it mostly for English muffins, it does also see bagels, and even sliced bread occasionally. When it is just toasting, then you can get toasted bread / bagel / English muffin that is sufficiently toasted. However, when it is combined with the other functions (cooking eggs for example), the toasting function just gets weak.
For example, on a daily basis I put in an English muffin, and I toast it while the egg is cooking. On a good day, the muffin will be starting to brown. Since I am making a sandwich, it is sufficient; but let me be clear that I wouldn't consider the English muffin toasted, but rather warmed. This is with the darkness control to the darkest setting. If I were to toast the same English muffin, on the same setting without the egg, then the English muffin would be close to burned.
Cooking eggs & breakfast meats:
My daily use case for this appliance is to toast and English muffin, poach an egg, and heat a pre-cooked sausage patty to make a sandwich for breakfast. It works well, as long as you are OK with a warmed, almost browned English muffin. The egg is poached to a just hard state -- there is never nay runny white, and there is sometimes, but not often, any runny yolk. I tend to pop the yolk, but not scramble it before cooking. The sausage (turkey), which will have been thawed in the refrigerator, is always hot enough to melt cheese.
My biggest complaint about this function is with the egg cups. A few months ago, the non-stick started to flake heavily off of the cups. Since the manufacturer doesn't seem to have replacements for them; I took a gamble and used steel wool to remove all of the non-stick coating from the cups. Now I hit them with some non-stick spray before dropping in the egg. They actually work better like this, but the flaking non-stick was disconcerting. To be fair, I do wash the egg cups in the top rack of the dishwasher, which could have contributed to their current state.
Boiling eggs:
I'm not crazy about the quality of the eggs that come out from the boiler. I have tried a few different times for hard boiled eggs; and I have never tried soft boiled. When using white eggs, they always come out with a brownish tinge to them, which makes using them for coloring in the spring difficult. Sometimes even the white of the egg inside the shell is brownish colored as well. The yolks do not come out consistently hard. We've reverted back to a pot and water for this, since we get better results doing it old school. In a pinch, if someone is looking for some protein, we do use it to hard-boil one egg.
Toasts OK, but the egg cooker didn't work for us.

We have had this toaster for almost exactly 3 years. I bought it with the idea that it would be easy for my husband to make breakfast for himself and my mother. The first time I tried to make eggs in it to show him how to use it, it was a disaster. I carefully measured the recommended amount of water, and cracked one egg into each of the little pans. Within a couple of minutes, the eggs were bubbling out of the cooker and some went into the water reservoir. Before we could stop it, we had hardened egg all over inside the cooker that took a while to clean up. All of this may have been a user error of some kind, but we never got brave enough to try it again.
Since this incident, we have used it only as a toaster. For the most part, this function has been OK, but it never did evenly toast bread. We use only homemade whole grain bread that I make which doesn't toast very quickly, at least in this toaster. We generally have to push it down twice at the highest setting. At this point, I don't know if it's the bread or the toaster, but we have accepted toast that is not evenly toasted. I gave this toaster 3 stars because it is still working as a toaster after 3 years of use. Most appliance bought these days seem to be programmed to self-destruct just after the warranty period expires. So I think 3 years of use is good, but the extra cost for the egg cooker, for us, was a waste.
Stop searching for a toaster and buy this one now!!!

This toaster is absolutely amazing!!!! I bought this three years ago and I still love it and it still works like the day o got it. There isn't a feature on it that I have anything bad about. I show this toaster off. I brag about it at work. I force people to watch me make eggs. Speaking of eggs, let me say this. Hard boiling an egg is not easy. I never seem to get it right. But this thing gets them perfect EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! I frequently have bowls of boiled eggs just sitting f around waiting to be peeled and eaten. It's incredible.
Do yourself a favor and buy this toaster. It will change your life! Lol. Maybe not, but it's pretty awesome. And seriously. For $36????? The best $36 bucks I've spent on a kitchen item ever 😀
Still a FAN after 1-1/2 years!

We've had our West Bend Egg and Muffin Toaster for 1-1/2 years now and still love it. It's easy to clean the removable egg trays, lid, etc - and a fast, healthy breakfast sandwich for me and my husband is only minutes away. Much less mess and stress than having to make everything separately. The only issue and why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the toaster lever on the left side started popping up before it's time about 5 months ago. We also found it difficult to read the measurements on the plastic measuring cup and handled that simply by using a permanent marker to mark the ideal amount of water on the cup to poach 2 eggs (after some trial and error).
This toaster has gotten regular, daily use - either for just toast or bagels or to poach eggs and steam ham for breakfast sandwiches. That it does all of this at the time it takes to make toast is very convenient. I would say it lasted a long time considering the use it's gotten - and we're going to buy a new one for our new house. I researched other breakfast sandwich makers in case something better has come out in the last 1-1/2 years and when I read the reviews they're nothing like the ease of use and clean-up as this one. Even if it can only handle a year of daily use, having a healthy breakfast ready in the time it takes to make toast and coffee makes it totally worth it.
4 years of breakfast bliss

I bought this unit Dec. 1 2014 because I love gadgets and I also love breakfast sandwiches. This machine is still going strong 4 years later. I've had the same issues as others with the little skillet flaking but I honestly just took a brillo pad and got rid of the "non stick" coating. Function wise this has been a gem. Still makes great breakfast sandwiches but my favorite feature is actually that it makes flawless hard boiled eggs. I can almost pull the shell off in one piece every time! The egg holder has broken from so much exposure to steam so I'm hoping to replace that. This is my only knock on durability. I can still make 8 eggs at once which the kids love so functionally still perfect. This is one of the best purchases I've ever made in my life.
Seemed Like a Great Product; Not Without It's Flaws; Parts Regularly Unavailable; Mine Died

I write this review 3 years from date of purchase (March 2017/2014), Updated October 2017, and finally, October 2019; edits below.
I have mixed reviews for the egg & muffin toaster. I so want to love this device. It does what we need - makes our toast, cooks our bagels, and cooks and poaches eggs, and allows us to quickly make egg/sausage breakfast/sandwiches. But it requires some cajoling in the end, at least for us. And has now finally broken to the point to make it mostly useless for us.
When the unit first arrived, one side of the toaster (2 slots) cooked much hotter than the other. West Bends response was to just give me instructions from the user manual about how to turn it down. Even turned down to the lowest setting, the side was too hot. Having an engineering background and reading about these things, I found that had to adjust the internal heating coils by hand so that they wouldn't cook as hot. So was happy again.
After that, it worked great for almost a year. During that time I even purchased the smaller one for my (somewhat aging) mother who loved ours and wanted one for herself.
But then the Egg Steaming Tray (U19-6) cracked. So I searched online and the only place I could find them listed was at West Bend's website - and the part, very affordable, was "Temporarily out of stock." So I contacted West Bend again. Their response was that it was expected to be out of stock for the next 3-4 months. I asked if they could notify me when the part was available and they said no I would have to just check back. So, I setup a page watcher to see when it would be in stock. I have regularly and dutifully checked back to see if the part was in stock. For 2 years now, it has been "Temporarily out of stock". Over that time, the tray broken into 2 pieces. We glued it together with some epoxy that is supposedly food friendly. Since then it's broken in 2 other places. Not sure how many times I can expect to repair it waiting for the needed part to finally be in stock.
[NOTE: Since originally written WestBend managed to source replacement parts, now for sale as of the last edit. More below]
We haven't had the problem others have noted with the teflon coating flaking off; we always use a little oil in the trays. We do clean the various trays in the dishwasher, top tray (and no heating cycle), but do that with all sorts of parts like this and this was the only one we've really had trouble with parts breaking.
And even so, I'd expect to be able to purchase replacements parts - West Bend is still advertising this unit as their latest such product on their website - it's in production, SO WHY NO REPLACEMENT PARTS, WEST BEND???
I'm a very cautious user of equipment, and this thing should have lasted more than the 1 year warranty and certainly with a few replacement parts here or there, it could last for many many years. But that's not necessarily what the manufacturer wants, seemingly more so for a lack of support for the needed replacements parts.
It's almost as if we are supposed to buy a new unit - for a $5 part. But if a manufacturer won't support their product with replacements parts - especially when the unit remains in production - then I am not really interested in "investing" further in your products; I'll find another manufacturer and method - and maybe even recover some counter space (yes, I knew the size of it before purchase; it does take up a bit of counter space).
FYI, the only place for parts for this unit are directly from West Bend.
When it was working, we just followed the instructions and it worked as it said. As others have said, oil the egg pans, and you should expect some water in the poaching pans to drain before eating the eggs, and if both burners heat evenly, then you'll get solid toast out of it. But the parts issue has become the deal killer. One could say that for 20 bucks/year (now a little more) along with DIY fixing that I should likely be happy for the life of the product - buy another; it's the american way of capitalism and planned lifetimes... But if I could get the parts, I'd truly be a happy camper and could give it the stars it likely more deserves. Now to go find a replacement....
ADDED 2017-10-11
In late June 2017, after not finding a replacement, I decided to more pro-actively contact the company (which I found to have recently been purchased by The Legacy Companies) in a manner designed to hopefully create real results, by emailing a detailed message to customer service - along with a bunch of folks in leadership positions within the company (this required a bit of research to figure out who and how to deconstruct their email address standards - and yes I did get a bounce from the CEO - lol). A week later customer service responded that they were sorry and when the parts (finally) became available, they'd send me one free of charge. At 2 months (end of August), I was contacted again by customer service. They offered to instead send me a whole new unit since they still hadn't been able to source the(ir own) parts. My response was to provide my address and thank them. Yesterday, I sent them a message that I'd never received the unit, but that (while I was addressing this unavailable parts issue yet again) I noticed on their website that parts were now finally available. Expecting no further response, I went ahead and ordered some parts (yes I got 2 along with another part that is nearing replacement need) I did get a response to that email today - first time for any 1-day response from the company: they never saw my email or they would have sent me the unit; they saw I ordered parts - and that I used a coupon I found online that was never, ever supposed to be used for ordering parts, but he was glad I could use it. Then he went on to say usually they don't have such problems and to apologize for the inconvenience.
So, While the company never delivered any of their offers - free replacement parts or a free unit - everyone who owns one of these now should now be able to get replacements parts, including the egg steamer tray. Thus, I'll raise this to a 4-star review based on the product itself. I've also re-titled it from "Great at First; Replacement Parts Not Available" to "Great Product, Generally; Not Without It's Flaws; Hopefully Parts Remain Available"
ADDED 2019-10-11
Lowering this to 3 stars. Our toaster has continued to deteriorate in function. The previous toaster that I gave to a well-known thrift store had worked dependably for almost 20 years prior to this unit. It was getting harder and hard to keep this unit working in the toast-only mode. With my background, I also took the unit apart to fix some of the internal aspects - at least those that were fixable. Starting last week, it will not stay on at all when using the toaster-only setting. It also now emits an interesting electrical flash when trying to use one side (left side). My partner uses the egg cooker regularly. The egg tray is once again on back order (and has been for a couple of months). The egg cooking lid is now warping, giving extra venting. And when I went to look at parts; their website says due to inventory they aren't able to let you order anything for the next 3 months. I've decided that we are going to come up with a new solution. We had already purchased the Hamilton Beach egg sandwich maker which we like, so this unit had become only for occasional toast and a hard boiled egg several times per week. We've also decided it takes more space on the counter than necessary. So we are getting a regular toaster and will find another solution for hard boiling our eggs. I won't be able to donate this unit as it's effectively useless now, unless you need a very large beast on your kitchen countertop to boil an egg or 8, assuming your tray hasn't broken apart again. Oh, well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
