The directions are in Japanese. I knew this going when I purchased. I could not figure it out, but when I emailed them, they replied promptly with a video that clearly shows how to use it. I can't wait to try it.

1) It is a lot of work for very little reward
2) It is very temperamental
3) It's basically just frustrating
Like visiting Tokyo--without the 13 hour flight!

This works exactly as described, creating a frozen cap of foam for the beer. You can't entertain a crowd with this--it's good for 2-3 beers before you need to re-freeze the canister, but if you want to treat yourself to a frosty cold beer with a delicious ice cream-like head, this'll do!
Also, it arrived a full week ahead of the estimated date range.
Directions are in Japanese but it's easy if you follow the illustrations. Add salt to water, pour into the outer canister, insert the inner canister and freeze it. Then open a very cold Kirin Ichiban, pour a couple ounces in the canister and turn it on. Takes about 30 seconds to freeze it into a creamy consistency. Then just pour you beer, top it with the awesomeness you just made and settle in!
Cool idea

Turn your beer into cold foam to top on your other beer? Pretty great idea. Foam keeps beer cold and doesn't water it d9wn. Instead, gives you more beer to drink. Does need A LOT of salt to create foam. We bought like a 5 pound bag!

I bought one of these a few years ago when they first came out, for a hundred bucks straight from Japan. It worked fine, but its made of all plastic and seems like it could be fragile. For $100 it was overpriced. Under $40 I would say is a decent value. As mentioned, the instructions are all in japanese. Since these things were so new to the market there were no videos or guides, but google translate on my phone transcribed everything well enough.
From what I remember of our homemade ice cream machine we had when I was a kid, this works the same way. Ice and salt are used, but replace milk with beer. The foam does look prety cool, but then after the first few pours you really realize how pointless it is. Setting it up with all of the ice and salt is kind of a pain, and its pretty time consuming to get it operating and then to clean it up.
I think these things got big when a ball park out west started serving beer with this foam. Obviously they were using commercial models that were automatic. The bottom line is that this would be cool to show guests, but you probably will never use this at home by yourself more than once.
poor idea

this machine makes the foam only, which is the white stuff on top. this is a meaningless product, the name should be changed to frozen foam maker instead of the beer maker.
waited for two weeks, and so so so disappointed when i saw it.
