The wood was a little dry when it arrived so I treated it with butcher block oil and wow, what a difference! I'm almost going to feel bad about using it. Almost. I'm not going to feel bad when my friends get jealous about what a nice rolling pin this is! The measuring marks on the body are subtle. The little plastic discs feel very solid, and they're stamped on either side with both inches and millimeters of gap that they add.

The rolling pin itself is awesome and I really like it. I'm rating it low because, honestly, what kind of narcissistic jerk embosses his name into a rolling pin so that every pie crust or cookie dough has "joseph" imprinted on it?! Yeah, they fail to mention that in the description. If I meet Joseph, I'm going to tell him off. Jerkface jerk Joseph. (raspberries) But other than that, it's pretty great, to be fair.

Clear Markings to help you choose for depth and length

I can't exactly "Love it"; after all, it is only a rolling pin. The size of the depth rings is not exactly clear in pictures provided so I took one for those interested. It works as described, and the rings come out easily for cleaning by removing the end screw for each set. The threads allow the use of only one depth ring at a time should you choose to use them that way. This keeps the others clean for later.

The markings do NOT interfere with the surface of the dough as they appear to be laser etched without surface indentation.

I love the idea of this rolling pin, and was so excited about using it this weekend for Christmas baking, but mine came with large cracks in the wood, so I can't use it :-(

So, I have been using the same rolling pin for years that was passed down to me by my Mother. It was probably a 10 dollar rolling pin she got at Wal-mart if I am being honest. I have been given several others as gifts and just didn't like them. I have heard about this Joseph and Joseph one in the "cookie world" and how it gets all the cookies the same height. I finally made my "splurge" purchase but didn't have super high hopes for it. It not having the handles on the end to hold on to was a bit irritating but once I got the hang of it....TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! All of my cookies are consistently the same height. This helps them to bake evenly and look more professional. I am totally satisfied with this purchase and recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a new rolling pin. It was also super easy to clean. The ends twist off and it is sealed off from the rest of the rolling pin so you don't have to worry about water sitting in the rolling pin itself. This rolling in is superb quality and will last for many years to come. This is a genius design!!!

This is a MUST for cut out sugar cookies!!!!

OMG! I have been looking for this my whole life! Well...maybe not my WHOLE life but for about the past 5-6 years. I make sugar cookies and I like them pretty thick and it is hard to roll them out evenly. This is PERFECT...and I mean PERFECT!! I baked three batches of cut out sugar cookies in less than an hour an a half!!! No joke! I don't see how you could make a pie crust with it...because of the rollers on the edge that determine the thickness....but for sugar cookies...this is what you need. I was going to buy one of those cookies things with the side bars but they are over $50. This works amazing well and the price is perfect. Great product!!!

Handy with some quality issues

Aside from general quality issues, this system is genius and I finally mase an even pie crust! Mine had a small crack in the wood on one end, I've been careful to apply food grade mineral oil to condition the wood. The rolling pin itself has a slightly rough texture, like it needs to be fine grit sanded or was made with the grain in the wrong direction, but keep it floured and it doesn't stick to pie crust, etc. The plastic pieces limit how wide you can roll your dough, just aim for a long rectangular shape with cookie dough and it will be fine, plenty wide for pie crusts.

I had good experiences using my friends Joseph Joseph 20085 so I bought one here. I didn't use it right away and once I did, realized that mine is defective from the factory, it was bored out unevenly, and therefore does not roll properly when using the colored spacers. I see no return/replacement instructions from Joseph Joseph. Be aware.

Sugar cutout cookies...here I come!

I love to decorate cut out cookies but dread the process of trying to get them to the same thickness. Had looked at this rolling pin awhile ago but didn't buy at the time...With the holidays approaching I said "what the heck" and received my rolling pin a few days ago and have been baking ever since. Love the ease and not worried about when a recipe says roll out to 3/8" or 1/4"...nailed it! Only observations are the same as a few others reviewers; wish there were more discs available for purchase, was a little bit longer, not sure how anyone would be able to do pie cut outs..It really only allows you to roll out dough as wide as the rolling pin which is fine for cookies but I wouldn't think for pie crusts. Also, there were no instructions to oil rolling pin and only saw that suggestion from other reviews; so thank you! It is a lovely piece of wood! Overall...LOVE IT!
