Rivets fall out after a few months of regular use.
by Jamie Miller (2 out of 5 stars)
May 27, 2016

I have purchased 2 of these belts and the first one fell apart in about a year and the second I have only owned about 7 months and it too fell apart. The rivets fall out of the belt after a few months of regular use and will not hold when pressed back in. For the price of this product I would have though it should last longer then 6 months to a year. I am very disappointed because these are really nice belts but I will be looking else ware for my next one.

It was a great belt until...
by Almeister (1 out of 5 stars)

This belt was great up until the buckle just fell off. This belt only lasted a total of 36 days. One day after I got home from work I decided to change into more comfortable clothes so as I'm pushing on the realease and undoing my belt the buckle falls off completely on to the floor. When I picked it up to inspect it more closely I noticed that one of the pins that was holding the buckle on the belt was missing so it must have just fallen off somewhere. At first I thought they were screws but after closer inspection they turned out to be just some cheap looking pin with serrations on it to hold it in place. So much for that because it clearly failed on my belt. Couldn't they have just used a more solid pin that went all the way through from end to end? Sure they could've but it probably would've cost more to do that so they had to cut costs somewhere. Too bad because I really liked the belt. I liked how I could adjust it perfectly to point where it wasn't too tight or too loose it was just right unlike standard belts with the holes. I cannot recommend this belt to anyone unless they can come up with better solution to those crappy pins that they're using to attach the buckle to the belt. So now I have a great belt that is a total useless piece of garbage. You have been warned.

Mission vs. Mooniva vs. SlideBelt
by Kenny (4 out of 5 stars)

Updates:

I've owned all three of the belts for about two years now. All of them are still working fine with reasonable wear. I saw people having issues with all three manufactures. But mine are still working great. I noticed some new great new top grade leather belts from Mooniva and jumped on the deal and got the following belt. Wow, unbelievable belt!

Mooniva Men's Leather Ratchet Belt Luxury Collection Small (20" - 32") Brown

I'm a huge fan of ratchet belts after I bought my first one from Mission belt website. Really love the adjustable ratchet buckle. I now owned this kind of belts from Mission, SlideBelt and a few from Mooniva. Here is my 2 cents comparing belts from these three vendors:

Commonalities:
- Very Similar ratchet mechanism, which is the main reason I liked ratchet belts. So easy, so flexible!
- Great quality leather for a reasonable price

Here is the rough comparison of belts from the three brands:

Mission Belt (the earliest vendor selling ratchet belt):
- Its buckles are rather simple and plain. Not many other textures and designs. I liked its black on black basic version.
- Leather quality appears to be great. My first ratchet belt was a Mission bought from its website. It's still working fine.
- Mission offers different belt colors, but its leather texture is rather plain and traditional. Not much of choice even with the newer edition I purchased
- Width of the buckle and belts are slightly smaller. Most traditional men's buckles and belts are of same width as SlideBelt/Mooniva. I need a slimmer one for a few pants that I own. For others, I use SlideBelt/Mooniva.

Mooniva Belt:
- Mooniva is one of the best vendors that I bought from in terms of buckles. Its website also sells separate buckles that you can hookup with the belts you bought. Their choices of buckles are really amazing.
- Leather quality appears to be great. It also have premium leather option, which will cost more. So far, my Mooniva belts still look great.
- Different Mooniva belts has different leather texture. I picked the traditional ones. It has many other options.
- Mooniva's belt and buckles appears to be the same width as SlideBelt, but slightly wider than Mission.

SlideBelt:
- SlideBelt buckles are a little bit different from Mission and Mooniva. The switch is not using the small tab, but an flipper.
- Leather quality appears to be ok. Surface texture is a bit rough. Just bought it not long ago. Will see how long it will last.
- SlideBelt offers not only different belt colors, but it also has some texture variations that you can pick.
- Belt and buckle width is about the same as Mooniva, but slightly larger than Mission.

I've uploaded a picture showing the ones that I own, one from each vendor. The one on the top is Mooniva, middle belt is Mission, bottom one is SlideBelt.

Looked good for 2.5 years
by Greg (3 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this belt in May of 2014, it's now February of 2017.

I wear this belt daily, I am thin so I wear it will all of my pants for the most part. I trimmed the belt down to size when I got it, so it fits and has always looked very nice.

Over the last few months, the leather has started to crack significantly. There are multiple vertical cracks in the leather in several places, though the belt still functions.

I am not sure what to expect as far as lifespan for a belt, but I guess I was expecting longer than this. I will likely buy a replacement 35mm belt and keep my buckle, which still functions perfectly.

I love this belt!

Honestly, I had never heard of a ratcheting belt before I ordered this, so I wasn't quite sure of what to expect. That being said, I've had my Mission Belt for about a week now and I love it. The leather feels and looks like a great quality leather. The finish of the buckle (gun metal) looks great. My biggest concern was the how the buckle would function, but that quickly went away with my first use. This is in many ways easier than a classic buckle style. This type of buckle won't stretch or scratch the finish of the leather. The belt is true to size. I bought this belt specifically to wear with dress pants, but have liked it so much, it has become my "go to" belt. As of right now, I couldn't be happier with my purchase and will absolutely consider Mission Belt for future needs. Highly recommend!

Best belt I've ever had...

This belt really is awesome. I got cancer, and lost like close to 50 lbs. Was a size 32-34, now my sweatpants are falling off of me! Anyways, this may seem slightly exoensive for a belt (well, not really I guess, my Coach belt was A LOT more! Lol) but this belt for me was a life saver. First off, the belt is top notch quality. Feels great, nice, soft leather. Buckle is nice and sturdy. May be slightly on the thicker side for a buckle, but it's because you can do so much with this belt. Is the belt way too long? Simply undo the latch, the belt comes out, trim to liking, and back I to the latch bnb it goes. 1 po seconds top. I also love the ratchet system. Vwryvsturdy hold and and they say, you get a PERFECT fit every time, as the increments are so small, it's like a personalized belt made for you! I love mine. Would def recommend to a friend. Actually, I already have!

Impressed so far

I originally saw this on Shark Tank when it first aired. Didn't really think much of it at the time. Then the other day my belt broke (I always just buy $9.99 cheapo Ross belts) and I just happened to watch the rerun of the Shark Tank episode that night, and decided I'd give it a try.

Now I'm a bigger guy with a bit of a gut and belts can dig into my stomach which is not comfortable, especially when sitting. This belt is small enough that there is no digging into my gut. I LOVE the way this thing ratchets to get that perfect fit vs having 1" distances between holes on traditional belts. I really like the "gun metal" finish on the unit I purchased as well, and so far it has been a total winner.

We'll see how it holds up, as I've only had it a week now, wearing it daily, but if it lasts awhile I will happily purchase again.

Research First

I have purchased from Amazon 3 different brands of this style belt in the last 4 years. The first was Easy Belt followed Marino and now Mission Belt. The Easy Belt and the Mission Belt were 35mm. For me, a 35mm belt is too narrow and on some pants it results in the waist band rolling over the belt. While this look along with athletic tape on your glasses may get you into just about any Geek party it is otherwise a failure. Furthermore, the release point on the Mission Belt's buckle is difficult to work. It is a small tab on the perimeter of the buckle. I have experimented and it seems best if I wear the release on the up side of the buckle. I don't have a muffin top so that's not causing the roll over or the release problem. As for buckle durability, the spring in the lock & release mechanism of the Easy Belt broke at around 11 months. They replaced it free of charge. However, the replacement also broke, two buckles two exact same failures. The spring in the Mission Belt appears to be similar, we'll see if it last more than a year. My second belt purchase was a Marino belt. Two years later that buckle is like new. However the belt split so I bought the Mission Belt. As for all the belts, they each are made with filler material covered with paper thin leather on both sides. So, in about one year, if you wear it everyday, the leather layers will either crack, split or tear. At least that has been my experience. Before you buy take time to Google "Full Grain Leather" and see that it is the only leather that is 100% all cattle leather, with no filler in a sandwich of layered materials.

Problem addressed immediately

Update to the review below:

I contacted Mission by email late on a Friday, letting them know of my issue. The belt was past the 1-year warranty by about six months. To my surprise and delight, I had a response from them about an hour later! We exchanged several emails with photos, and after maybe 3 hours, they had ordered a replacement strap to be sent to me. It was excellent customer service; the new strap seems much more sturdy than the old one, and I'm hopeful it will last. No matter what, the customer service made up for a product defect, and I'm still a Mission customer!

I've owned two Mission Belts. The first lasted over two years of daily use; I had worn the finish off the buckle and the stitching was coming out. In other words, it held up beautifully. This most recent one is a bit over a year old, and has had four failures. The end has torn out of the buckle three times, and the belt leather has torn through at the end of the ratchet section. Since it's over a year old, I'm sure there is no warranty. For reference, the torn ends happened well within warranty; the first was after a few months of use. I just trimmed shorter and kept wearing it. By now, with three trims, it was almost too short (but with the break at the end of the ratchet strap, it no longer matters). Too bad on the quality drop; I've enjoyed the belts and will probably look for another brand that holds up better.

Cumbersome release mechanism
by Leeman (3 out of 5 stars)
October 17, 2018

I've had the "as seen on tv" version for the last year or so. I love the quick release, lifting up on the belt buckle on their version. This brand 'Mission' is quite different. It has a very small trigger in the buckle to disengage the belt. problem is, you have to squeeze the belt together to release the tension on the belt to make it easier to release the 'trigger'. I guess i'll get used to it. Also, the as seen on tv version belt would eventually 'rip' at the point where it was joined at the buckle, leaving me with my pants down to my knees on bourbon street lol. If this current belt is truly leather and has a buckle that can clamp down on it without ripping through the 'supposed' leather then I will be impressed. we will see.
