Buy it. Your party will cause atmosphere envy.

My review is not so much because of use - I used it once at my brother's house at his surprise 40th birthday party. It was supposed to be a '70s party, but then we bagged the '70s idea, but I still put the bulb in the multi-torched ceiling light (unscrewing the other bulbs to give the dining room a darkened party atmosphere). A total of four guests asked me "HEY, you bought that thing? Where can I get one of those?" - and if four asked me, then they must've been talking to someone else who pointed them to me. So, at least four of these probably got sold during the party when I gave the curious guests the amazon.com link. I'd say that means this was $10.99 well spent, and my brother got to keep it. I heard that he went to bed before all the guests left, well after 3am, so I'd say the party was a success.

I was initially wary of buying such a cheap item that was apparently going to accomplish quite a bit. I looked at the one star ratings and cast them aside, because of all the spelling mistakes etc. However, this product is not worth your time and money. It's not even worth the electrons that power it. Right out of the box it didn't work. It is constructed of a central shaft that comes out of the main light bulb with the four LEDS in it. It then connects at one point to a dome-shaped plastic piece that was supposedly going to rotate and refract the light. The dome had a chip in it towards the bottom, and a spiderweb of cracks where the shaft connected to it, so if it did spin, the shaft would have nothing to connect to. Also the metal contact at the bottom of the screw-fixture for the light dropped off as i picked it up, and despite my re-soldering attempts the LEDS would not even light up. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. It is overpriced and flawed in design.

You get what you pay for. That can be very good.

Several are my reasons for giving this product and this company 5 stars.

The product - It is exactly what I expected: Something cheap (but not too cheap), something gimmicky (but not too gimmicky), but something cool. The lamps are light bulb shaped so they will screw right into most standard light bulb sockets in the US. Be advised, they are wide. They are a little wider than a standard light bulb, so wont fit in little tiny lamps. The item itself is just plain awesome. I bought about half a dozen of these guys and put them on one of those floor lamps with 3 or 5 separate smaller lamps on flexible stems. I bunch them all together and shine them facing outward through the blinds on the outside facing windows in my apartment. From outside it has that Star Trek: Voyager warp core look.. anyways, I totally dig it, and at less than 10 bucks a pop, what have you got to lose?

The company - The first time I ordered some lamps, unfortunately some did not work. I emailed support, and within hours, the staff had put replacements in the mail for me, and the next day I had my lamps. I liked them so much I ordered 4 more and will be probably giving some of these out as gifts, hey Christmas is right around the corner... So, yay for quick customer service.

Now for the caveat emptors and such, and I believe another reviewer mentioned this, make sure the lamp is not upside down. Many of these pictures seem to display this item as suspended from an overhead socket. These aren't super-well made, keep in mind, cheap-and-gimmicky. The screw that holds the plastic kaleidoscope dome is not mounted opposite in orientation to the spindle, as it is in a Dremel/rotary tool. I wish I had the technical lingo to describe it, but the dome will wriggle itself loose if the lamp is upside down, sending it crashing to the floor. One of mine kept falling off and the plastic dome is just barely holding together after a few unfortunate trips to the floor. Just make sure it's facing up or at least at more than a 45-degree angle or so. If someone can figure out a way to keep the dome attached to the spindle, it would work fine from an upside down position, but not right out of the box. Another warning, these are not high-traffic, high-use friendly items. They are brittle. They will fall apart if mishandled. If you're going to put it in a kid's room make sure it's not somewhere it can be easily taken out and "shown". It won't stand up to the turbulence. These things are delicate.

Enjoy!

Disappointed

I had a similar issue as the other one star reviews. I was very excited to receive this product. It looked like an ingenious design and it was very affordable. Right out of the box the dome was disconnected from the light. Apparently there should have been a screw attachment. I looked around and never found the screw. Also, there were two cracks in the dome. One of the bass and one in the middle where the screw hole it's located.

I'm very disappointed because we were really looking forward to using this light at my son's birthday party. It's being returned.

When removing this light from the box, it literally fell apart immediately. I thought it must have been held together with the worlds' smallest screw. I never did find the screw, so the light is useless. I won't buy this product again from this seller..

Awesome for the price!!!

I guess I didn't pay close enough attention and didn't realize it was a light bulb, not an actual lamp. So I was a little unprepared being that I don't have a light fixture that points down to the floor. But once I got a little clip on lamp from Walmart to hang wherever, I am ecstatic. An awesome deal! I only paid $8 and this thing is awesome! I'm going to order a second one just to be prepared for the day when it eventually burns out.

I bought one of these for a Halloween party and everyone just stayed in the one room in which this light was. It attracted everyone. My step dad loves lights and lava lamps and all that stuff, so my mom got him some and he loves them. I later borrowed some of his along with mine to light the dance floor at my wedding because we had a small 60 person iPod wedding. It worked well.

The bulb we received has been a little tempermental but always works. It takes an occasional flick to get it to kick on or stay on but for the price and effect I can't really complain. It was a huge hit at a recent party and that, by itself, made it a worthwhile purchase.

red, blue, green only - loud, and more expensive than exact same bulb sold on amazon.

I know everyone else liked it, but it wasn't that impressive. It's only blue, red, green, and the motor was loud enough that it made us turn up the music just to try to cover it up. I was hoping for more rainbow type colors with at least yellow purple too. We tried it on a standing floor lamp, and it basically only shined on the ceiling in a 5 foot radius, and finally we moved it to a table lamp that we had to set on the floor. Next I'll try it in the ceiling. I also bought the TSSSĀ® Disco DJ Stage Lighting LED RGB Crystal RAINBOW COLOR Effect light KTV Xmas Party Wedding Show Club Pub ($12). It's also just Blue, red, green, but quiet, can be screwed onto a mini tripod stand (comes with it), that we had more fun aiming it either on the floor, ceiling, and even took it outside with a long extension cord. It was also much brighter.

Follow-up - turns out that our overhead lights are all in ceiling fans, i.e. pointing sideways instead of down. So if you want this to work, make sure you're planning on putting it in a ceiling socket, and that socket points down. Also, I bought another disco LED light "Generic RGB Crystal Ball Effect Light E27 LED Rotating Stage Lighting For Disco DJ Party..." $5 thinking I'd compare to this bulb for $7. IT turned out to be the EXACTLY THE SAME bulb. Since it doesn't work for us anyway, now I'm stuck with two bulbs that I can't use.
