Great Speaker
by Juggernaut (5 out of 5 stars)
March 16, 2017

Okay, for starters let's say, I am pleasantly pleased with this product. I got these speakers for my HP All-In-One computer. We all know that the speakers aren't worth a crap on these new computers so I wanted something that would bring out the sound a little bit better. I took a chance with these and I am glad that I did. For the price point they are excellent. I have these in my office which is a 10x10 space in my house. I didn't want anything with the subwoofer because I work late in my office so I didn't want to disturb anyone else in the house sleeping late at night and these do the trick. No, you are not going to get anything with super bass but you definitely hear it, while playing songs and when the volume is up, you do not get any distortion whatsoever, simply a nice clean sound that accentuates the treble and the little bit of bass kick up to it's max potential, which isn't subwoofer quality of course but it's way better than the crappy Logitech speakers I have on my other working computer in my office. I actually think I am going to toss my Logitech speakers on my other computer and order another set of these. Of course, I just received these last week so we will see how they hold up but for now, I am loving them for my basic needs. If you want something better than the sound quality you have from a computer out of the box, get these, you wont be disappointed, but if you want something that's going to rattle and shake the house down, these may not be for you.

Great Little Speakers at a Good Price
by Tiffany White (4 out of 5 stars)
February 7, 2017

These speakers sound really good, if you like loud, bassy speakers. I use them with my 5k iMac, which was already loud and the sound is quite great. Caveat: I am using a little program for Mac called Boom 2 by Global Delight. It gives you granular control of the quality of sound coming from your Mac's speakers so this review may not match your experience. Consider buying Boom 2-- the audio quality of my MBP improved significantly with it.

These aren't audiophile speakers. A bonus is the fact they don't use external power to drive them, just USB so if you're like me and running out of outlets, this is a definite plus. The blue LED lights are a nice touch.

Overall I am glad I purchased these and with mods to your sound, as you can hear in the video, it's a great little piece of kit.

Great except for one tiny flaw in my opinion
by Josh F. (4 out of 5 stars)
January 5, 2017

Everything is good for me except one very bothersome flaw, the cord from one speaker to my PC is too short for exactly what I want. Yes I can buy an extension cord, but it's just a hassle. It doesn't bother me that the blue light stays on tho BC it turns off when you unplug it or when I power off my PC. Aside from cord length, to PC, cord length from speaker to speaker was OK, sound quality is solid and a solid feel build. I'm not sure if I'm the only person who has this problem but I have to turn my "PC system" volume down to 25% or else I get rattling sounds/distortion, but for playing games and listening to music, I enjoy them a lot. They get very loud. Too loud for me to ever use full power but it's there. They are tiny speakers so bass is not amazing but for the size I am impressed, it uses some sort of air theory I know nothing about to increase bass (why theirs a gap under the speaker where you see the blue light. Overall impressed with speaker quality and only slightly let down by USB & headphone jack cord size.

I have encountered great difficulty in hearing dialogue on my laptop from sources ...
by MO (3 out of 5 stars)
October 28, 2016

I am somewhat hard of hearing. At times, I have encountered great difficulty in hearing dialogue on my laptop from sources such as youtube and others. I wanted/needed speakers that would provide a level of amplification greater than my laptop's built in speakers do. While these speakers do provide a slight amplification, they fell short of my needs and belief in what I thought I would be getting. I understand that these speakers are powered off of my computers USB port which limits the amount of power input to these speakers and the resultant volume output. However, I don't recall this issue being raised in the reviews I had read prior to my purchase so I took it for granted that these speakers would provide an adequate level of volume. I did not encounter this and am disappointed. Also, the speaker volume control is located in a terrible spot on the speakers power cable. It is located on the cable close to the speakers instead of being located on the cable near where the cable plugs into the computer. If you have your speakers positioned further away from your computer, you're going to have to reach out to the speakers to adjust the volume. In my opinion, the volume control should be as near to the computer as possible. It does not make sense to me why the volume control is located where it is and I am a semi retired engineer. Lastly, some of the reviews I had read commented on the speakers sounding "tinny". Due to my hearing loss and the low amplification level that I encountered with these speakers, I cannot provide an honest/accurate opinion on this matter.

In summary, my experience with these speakers is somewhat disappointing. They did not provide me with the level of volume amplification I needed and hoped to obtain. Also, in my opinion, the speaker volume control should be relocated much closer to the computer.

Distortion and poor insulation takes away from good sound.
by turbox997 (3 out of 5 stars)
October 27, 2018

I gave this a solid 3 stars... ultimately I would buy a different product if I was to do this again, what makes this product a deal breaker from an other wise decent sound experience is the poor insulation in the wires; way too much interference noise is leaking through the poorly insulated wires.

I hear all sorts of distortion, interference, and pops from just connecting these to my laptop(seemingly from my wifi antenna), in addition I use a wireless mouse, as I scroll the wheel you can hear a whining noise play through these speakers, really frustration and annoying. On top of this, the volume control wheel causes distortion as well, I can kind of forgive this as I've experienced this on my Koss products with a volume control wheel as well... basically you have to jiggle the wheel and play with it to make it properly play the sound through both speakers evenly, otherwise it often just plays through one speaker louder than the other and you have to play with the wheel to make it play evenly through both.

Now for the good... yes indeed, these speakers put out some decent quality sound. The volume and clarity is quite impressive for it's size, has decent midranges and good treble. As for bass, while certainly lacking, it does have enough bass where the sound isn't "flat" or "cheap" sounding. The sound experience in general is what I would describe as: clear, crisp, "clean", some "richness" to it, a little bit of "depth", but certainly low on bass.

I also have a set of Altec Lansing BX1220, those surprisingly sound terrible compared to these Satechi's. They look like cans but they lack bass, despite the design looking like it could be capable of producing some bass, however, the BX1220's at least have good insulation in the wires and don't get interference and distortion from wireless devices as much, and the volume control is less susceptible to screwing up the distribution of the two speakers. (Hah, as I write this it would be nice if you combined the best qualities of both speaker sets... good interference insulation, a higher quality volume control wheel, and decent sound quality, then that'd be a good set.)

All in all, I feel like there might be better options out there, something that has good sound quality as well as good insulation from interference and distortion(which kind of make these Satechi's a deal breaker for me, it's quite annoying and frustrating) for this price range.

The sound is fantastic! They are by no means Bose speakers nor ...
by LG (4 out of 5 stars)
March 31, 2017

I'm actually a little blown away with these speakers. Having other speakers at home from Bose, I didn't really have high expectations for these. I simply needed them for audio on my new computer. The sound is fantastic! They are by no means Bose speakers nor do they have much base, but they have quite dynamic sound for such small, inexpensive speakers. I do agree with other than it would be nice to be able to turn the LED lights on the base off. And this was the only reason why I didn't give them five starts. I do think they look cool, but it bothers me that they stay on ALL THE TIME. It would be nice if they had a wireless options too. Other than that, I have no complaints. They have far exceeded my expectations.

Great speakers a few minor draw back, but I would buy these again.
by Cerulean (5 out of 5 stars)

Update: I found a way so you can turn the speakers off so that they are not constantly on. Though you have to buy an additional device to do so. (I know it sucks but hey it makes me happy that it works) Its called the Sabrent 4 port with switches. (USB switch hub) It will allow you to turn the power on and off of the speakers and it works pretty well. Not sure if the company would recommend a thing like this, but hey it work, and now I have extra USB slots at my desk. If you look in the picture I uploaded you can see what I mean.

I am enjoying these speakers very well for my desktop computer, they sound nice and they can become very loud. I only have a few issues is the cord is a bit short, but that is probably because these are mostly meant for laptop computers. My only other complaint is the LED lights on them can not be turned off, I don't like the idea of this, but its nothing to big for me to handle. But in the end I enjoy these speakers, and look forward to buying them again.

One Speaker Failed After Less Than 3 Months of Part-time Use
by S. Mayer (2 out of 5 stars)
April 26, 2017

I initially bought one pair and the sound level and quality was ideal for what I wanted (to elevate the audio level of my pc when watching movies and/or listening to music), so I bought an additional pair for another room. While I have been quite satisfied with their performance, unfortunately, after about 2 1/2 months of a-couple-of-hours-maybe-every-other-day usage, one of the speakers has ceased working properly and is now low volume and barely audible with static (I have been sure to never use the speakers at full volume, and I take good care of the speakers which still have their protective backside plastic coating). Naturally, it significantly detracts from the quality of sound. I wanted to wait a few months before posting a review just in case something like this happened, and unfortunately, it did. The other pair is still working without issue and that is why I did not give a 1-star rating.

Just what I was looking for
by PaulT (5 out of 5 stars)

The Satechi speakers met a need I have been trying to solve for several years, and they work great. My cats like to walk on my desk, and the computer speakers sitting on either side of the screen would get knocked onto the floor with some regularity (an accident???). I tried a sound bar but didn't like the quality of the sound. I considered several other options none of which seemed very feasible. The Satechi speakers are small enough that they sit under the display and thus far have not drawn the attention of the cats. In addition, they are relatively heavy so they stay in place when brushed by mail or other papers being moved around the desk. For the size, the sound quality is very acceptable. Overall, they were just what I needed.

one of them rattled; company sent replacement
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
August 26, 2018

I had very specific things in mind to replace my Harman Kardon speakers (HK206) that I've been using for eons. I have always loved the sound out of them. For something so inexpensive and unassuming, they really are impressive. However, I've always hated how much room they took up on my desk, and I have to fiddle with the volume knob to get sound out of both speakers now. So what I was looking for in a replacement:
- more compact design to fit the space beneath my monitor
- comparable sound (tonal range, depth of sound) to my old speakers
- doesn't cost an arm and half a leg

What these Satechi speakers deliver:
- 4* on the design. They fit perfectly, and the glowing lights on them look nice. They also feel really solid. I just wish the lights turned off when my computer was off, that the volume control wasn't tucked away on the wire behind them, and that wire (the one that runs from the computer to the first speaker) could stand to be a little longer.
- 5* on the price. They are reasonable.
- I have one major issue with the sound: one of the speakers rattles very noticeably. (Will be adding a video, and in it, I alternate muting one speaker at a time so you can tell the difference between the two. Left side rattles, right side does not.) If not for that, I'd probably be happy with these. The one that doesn't rattle sounds pretty decent. They don't have the same depth of sound as my old speakers (you can definitely tell the sound is coming from something small), but the range on them is acceptable to me. I hear an adequate amount of low, mid, and high ranges from them.

If you're lucky enough to get a set that doesn't rattle, you'll probably be happy with them.
**EDIT 9/25/18**

Changing to 5* because the company sent me a replacement. The rattling is gone and they sound good! I'll leave the video up in case anyone cares what the good speaker sounded like.
