Fun Little Spinning Rig for a Bargan Price
by Mike (5 out of 5 stars)
January 9, 2018

Researched and purchased a few of these micro or pen rods and reels. This one is superior to the rest; especially the crummy bait casters. It spools easy and holds 110 yards of 4 pound mono. Have fished for and caught catfish, sand bass, crappie, and now rainbow trout stocked in public ponds in Texas. It is amazing how far this little guy will cast and how sensitive the rod is. And it will hold a decent sized fish; I would not be afraid to fight a 8 or 10 pounder on this rig. The drag system works well and the rod is stouter than you might think. If you want to have some fun and a challenge at the same time, try this one out. You will not be disappointed.

Because "Just in case"
by @The_Nerdy_NP (5 out of 5 stars)

I saw this item in my shopping cart whilst sitting at lunch with my husband. While I was reading the item description aloud, I felt like I was speaking what the psych people call "word salad", AKA "a bunch of words that don't go together".

When I realized what I was reading, I stared at my husband who was looking back at me, smiling proudly. "So... This isn't an accident?" (I knew it wasn't an accident. This is a man who owns and adores a 1987 Samurai).

Me, unsurprised "ok just checking."

Also me, "Wait... You need 2 of them?"

Him "well yeah, one for the samurai and one for a go bag" (a "go bag" is a bag of emergency supplies).

Me "you want to keep one in your samurai?"

Him "Yeah, in case I get stranded..." *DEAD serious".

Me "you realize that we live in Phoenix, Arizona, which is a desert... So the likelihood that you'll be stranded near a body of water populated by fish is highly unlikely, right?"

Him "Well yeah, but just in case".

We are now the proud owners of two fishing pole pen mini rod things. Which seems to work, although we have not needed (SHOCKING, I know) and probably won't ever need to use it.

Please read!!

I bought two of these, and one of them the tip broke off early on which was unfortunate, yet I still love it. I had it for 2 years and probably caught hundred of fish. They are made for pan fish, but I can still land some decent sized catfish and turtles. Recently my the bottom of the real broke out of place, I could use the other reel from the first one, but some electrical tape and a zip tie held it place. It's not completely sturdy yet I still landed the catfish in the picture. I also had the same line, I didn't change it.

Best squid jigger ever
by Jason R. (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought two of these as a kinda joke/ hope they work situation for squid jigging. Although the knob broke off on both the two i bought, it was due to pure excitement during setting the hook. Then line supplied was good enough for small squid but we switched to braid for the jumbo sized ones. If you keep the original line, spoil it out slowly into the water first before trying to cast. That mono holds its memory for a while.

I'll take two for my bug-out bag!
by AlbertS (4 out of 5 stars)

This first struck me as a nice conversation piece. I had a mishap on the way to the river today, and my fishing pole broke. Fortunately, I have this beauty standing by.

It casts nice, reels well, and is surprisingly tough. It was very easy to rig, and can easily be used from a glove box. I was able to pull in five good sized bass (C&R) with this, just today.

It makes a nice convo piece, is an excellent stand-by, and goes great in a bug-out bag.

The handle comes loose, and much be tightened periodically. The extended rod does not get much internal traction, and does require straightening. When reeling in slacked line, it may go below the spool.

Awsome

For the most part, it works great. But, you need to switch the line size to 4lb test. The line was too heavy for its reel and pole combo. This change would make all your reviews better. Im a professional fisherman I should know what's needed. Overall great item as a gift for anyone who really knows how to fish

Cheap doesn't have to be cheap
by JBP (2 out of 5 stars)

I bought to of this same item from two different sellers. I caught a fish withe the red one and the purple one broke the foot when I was changing out the line. You really should charge to a lighter line. This will help casting issues some others mentioned. The drag is awful. However, the unit is usable. It's light and small enough for a long backpacking trip and will work. I will take the advise to carry a zip tie from now on just in case the other one breaks in the same way. It is fun to be successful even with low grade equipment. Waiting for refund now.

another China special

I knew better than to fall for the advertisement, but I wanted something in case of. I've never fished, don't know the first thing about fishing, but I do know quality, and this aint it. I went ahead and bought the Okuma collapsible for $43. I was pissed that I wasted $15 on this crap, when, for a few bucks more I got a quality rig. I will keep this thing anyway, but make sure you have a roll of T-Rex tape with you, the handle to the reel falls off.
