Great chair very comfortable, works like a reclining office chair shouldby CeeLee (5 out of 5 stars)

I just received this chair yesterday and I'm very pleased with the purchase. I have been brave lately buying furniture sight unseen on Amazon, and paying hefty shipping charges to Hawaii (still less expensive than buying most things locally). Returning a heavy item just because I don't like it is pretty much out of the question due to the shipping expense both ways, and for that reason I usually stick to products with excellent reviews. This chair had no reviews, and boy was I nervous, but I really wanted this chair!
I had been looking for a reclining office chair for awhile, and the problem I kept running into with chairs in my price range was complaints about the footrests not extending far enough to support the lower legs and feet. What sold me on this chair was the extendable footrest. As you can see in the photos, when you are not using it, it is tucked up under the seat. With similar chairs the footrest flips out like a typical reclining chair, but this one slides out on two extension poles, which allows for a longer reach. I'm 5'6" and when fully extended it rests right under my ankles. Not quite to the bottom of my feet, but good enough for me, and better than other brands where many have reported that the footrests don't extend below mid-calf. I think not having your shoes on it is a good idea anyway because there should be less wear and tear on the footrest cover (which may be replaceable because it has a zipper around it, but I'm not sure due to the way the footrest connects to the frame). If you are a very tall person it might not work for you, but my 5'10" husband finds it comfortable as well. Another plus is that the footrest can be extended while you are sitting in the chair, unlike some others that you have to get up out of to do it.
The footrest is the biggest pro and what makes it worth the price to me, but as office chairs go it's also sturdy and comfortable in both sitting and reclining positions. You can't tip it over without jumping on it. I didn't put it together myself but my husband reports that assembly was straightforward and not difficult. The lumbar support is soft and well curved for our backs without feeling like something is sticking into you like some chairs. The seat and the headrest are well padded, and although I don't plan to use it to actually nap in, it is comfy enough to do so.
Just a few minor cons:
The curved arms are in a fixed position and not manually adjustable, but are hinged so they adjust automatically when you recline the chair. They are comfortable and fine for sitting and reclining, but not so great for supporting your arms while typing on a keyboard unless it is very close in front of you and at a lower height than most desks. Mine is 29.5" and even with the chair at its highest height the keyboard would need to be lower to be comfortable. I will have to get a sliding keyboard tray that attaches underneath the desk to avoid straining my arms and wrists, since I do a lot of typing. In light of everything I like about the chair, I don't mind making the adjustment, therefore this does not reduce my overall rating.
The lowest level of the seat is also a little high for my legs when I'm barefoot (perfect with a 1" heel). The photo with the measurements shows 18.5" to the bottom of the seat, but it's actually to the top of the seat. Otherwise it would have been way too high for anyone without very long legs. (Edited to add: looks like they updated the photo; seat height measurement range now correct.)
I initially had some concerns about the fact that no warranty information was included in the box, but I contacted Viva's service department and they got back to me within several hours. They do provide free parts exchange for two years. Although the response time was excellent, they could have saved the time if that information was in the pamphlet that comes with the chair.
Not a con for me, but it may be for some people: the chair doesn't rock back. You have to use the lever to recline it and lock it in place in every position. But there are no preset positions, you can lock it at any point you want.
The free blanket and pillow that are currently advertised as coming with it are a nice touch, but the folded up blanket is stuffed inside the zippered pillow cover to form the pillow, so if you want to use them at the same time you will have to buy a stuffer pillow for the case. Not a con, but something people might like to know. Very soft and cozy.
This got long, but I wanted to cover all of the info I wished had been available to me before I took the gamble on this purchase. I would be happy to answer any questions in the comments as well. I do suggest checking out Viva's website for more specs and photos, as well as an installation guide, and they also have a YouTube video that shows exactly how the chair works. I'll link to that in the comments since I don't think links are allowed in reviews.
... and I have to say that it was a great decision. My office is a very important part ...

I have had this chair for about a week now and I have to say that it was a great decision. My office is a very important part of my house as it is regularly used, so the expense of getting a nice chair was a no-brainer. Since I work for a large e-commerce company as well as running my own home business and put in a lot of desk time, a comfortable chair is a must. This office chair first caught my attention with the features, the reclining and footrest options, while not a must, were intriguing. As I looked further I was happy to see that I could get all of that at a reasonable price as well.
I have already put a lot of hours on this chair in the short week and have noticed a significant difference in my overall comfort while at my desk. Also, I must admit that while I never expected to recline and kick my feet up often, I have indulged on several occasions. While productivity drops during these periods morale has increased significantly! :) Added bonuses include, well made and high-quality materials as well as ease of assembly. I had this put together and ready inside of 15 minutes and after a week have no complaints.

This would have been a 5 star chair except for one glaring issue - he seat cushion is not well padded. I've been used this chair for about 4 weeks now and the seat cushion has compressed to the point I feel like I'm sitting on a board, I had to go and buy a foam pad to sit on, and will probably take the chair to an upholstery shop and have the seat redone. I don't think I'm going to bother with trying to get the seller to fix the issue. Everything else about this chair is fantastic so far, but for $340 I expected to be able to say that there were no issue. Unlike some reviewers I was able to put this chair together by myself fairly easily using the tools provided.
Great sitting chair - Lousy recliner

I've had this chair exactly one year, so I've had time evaluate it pretty thoroughly. The leather is holding up very well and still looks good, I have had no mechanical malfunctions. It rolls and swivels easily.
As a regular office chair it is very comfortable if it is only used in the normal sitting position but as a recliner it definitely has it's drawbacks.
I found that the footrest was too low for me and had to resort to adding an extra cushion otherwise it felt like my legs were dangling off the end.
However for me the biggest flaw with this chair is the recliner, the heavy padding for the lumbar area combined with a seat that slopes downward causes you to slide down the chair. This is where a Tilt feature for the seat would have made the difference between a 5 star and a 3 start.
Whenever you are in the recliner position with this chair you should very cautious when leaning forward, it is extremely easy to tip over front wards and have the chair shoot out from underneath you.
Take a minute and read carefully

The quality of this chair is on par with the $99-$159 chairs at the box office stores. I guess the foot stool gimmick tempted me into spending the extra $200. The comfort of this chair is going to depend totally on your height. If you're over 5'10, this chair isn't going to offer you comfort in the reclined position unless you like the foot stool hitting you in your upper Achilles tendon area, somewhere below your calf muscles and heels, and for most folks, that isn't comfortable.
The biggest lesson I've learned from this purchase is that buying something as personal as an office chair without sitting in one first it really a bad idea. I can't fault the chair. It's fine. It just doesn't fit me. Also, it doesn't "rock" which feels strange since the last 5 office chairs I had all rocked. Seriously, you should have a good long sit in the office chair before you purchase especially if you're a taller or heavier person that spends a fair amount of time in an office chair.
Definitely not a La-Z-Boy.

I really had high hopes for this chair as I was hoping to have something I could prop my legs up and lean back for a quick nap while working through the night on extended projects. I didn't have the space in my office for a futon or couch, so I was hoping this would be a good alternative. The foot rest option on this chair is O.K. but not great. I am a bit heavier at 240 lbs, but it feels like I am going to break the footrest. Luckily, I have not yet after having this chair for a couple of months.
The biggest fallback of this chair is the bottom seat. First of all, it is rock hard. It feels like sitting in a church pew and my butt goes numb after some time and my lower back aches. The next problem with the base is the fact that it does not tilt backwards. Most office chairs have a lever underneath that you can pull outward and allow the chair to tilt backwards and your knees come up as you lean back. This one does not. This limitation makes the hard seat even worse as you can't transition your body weight over a long day at the office.
The only thing good about this chair is the fact that it allows for a full reclining position. I have used it a couple times for a quick nap and it is better than sleeping on a desk or on the floor, but not by much. The arm rests, head rest and back are o.k. from a comfort level also. This is why I am very generously giving it a two star rating, though I struggled to even give it that.
I really wished that I hadn't purchased this chair. I did also purchase a "Serta Big and Tall Smart Layers Tranquility Executive Office Chair" for my other office and found that one to be extremely comfortable. However, it was very difficult to setup as it had a bent base as delivered. I am going to replace this chair with another Serta and then get a foot stool instead of relying on a reclining chair.
How to fix back support problem and review

I've had this chair for 1.5 years now and it's a really nice chair. There are people giving this chair 1 star because the back rest will not stay upright or will "slip" when pressure is put on it. My chair also did this after a year or so. All I can say is these people obviously did not contact Viva support. I did and they quickly sent me a picture of a bolt on the right side of the chair that they wanted me to tighten. My chair works perfectly now! Everything else about it is amazing. I've personally slept in the chair quite a few times. It's comfortable and still looks new to this day. I'm 220lbs and it holds my weight extremely well. I never have felt like it was going to tip over on me. So all you 1 star reviewers, tighten that bolt on the right side and your chair is fixed!
After a year-still perfect. After about 4 years (see photo)

I have had this chair for over a year now and it's a prized possession. I use it every day at the computer and quite a bit for reading in a reclined position too. It is still like new. I am 6', 170lbs and for me it is very comfortable sitting or reclining. The back lumbar support really comes into play when reclined; just right for me. I would buy this chair again but it will probably last many years ahead. More than satisfied!
Oh, the assembly took me about 45 minutes. I got stuck once, but really, it was easy. I'm no genius as assembly!
Update after about 4 years: still love the chair but leather is peeling off...
The chair arrived on time and was very easy to assemble!

The chair arrived on time and was very easy to assemble. The product was not damage due to shipping and everything fit perfectly. This chair really can go all the way back to a fully reclined sleep position and is very comfortable. The lumbar support and head cushion is very nice and I find the chair to be alright in the bottom cushioning and while some may say its lacking but you can get a small cushion if its that much of a pain. I find this chair to really be nice and its not too low to the ground like some say. Its just right for me and it goes up far enough to make my feet unable to touch the floor! I am very pleased with this chair it really is much better than my old one!
The general idea is great..

Purchased in late summer of 2015. It is falling apart now in December of 2016. A lot of money for a chair that didn't even last two years. The arms are peeling. The hydraulic lift no longer works and it has never rolled very well. The pull out foot rest for the recliner portion is very awkward to use. The general idea is great...but the final product is not up to par. I am very disappointed. I purchased my previous office chair from a local office supply house and it held up very well for over 8 years. The only reason I replaced it is the fabric on the arms was becoming thin and the stuffing was visible. It was a microfiber fabric and I had cleaned it regularly. I thought that leather might be a better fabric for the arms .... not this one though.
