Great lighting, terrible bulb life, terrible support.by J. Dawson (2 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this bulb from Amazon at the end of April as: Nanoleaf 1200WL120-4PK 360 LED 10W 1200 Lumen Light Bulb with Leaf, White, 4-Pack. I purchased two 4 packs placing 7 bulbs into enclosed fixtures. By mid-July one of the bulbs failed. I like the concept and am pleased with the way that they operate but with this failure rate I can't recommend them.
March 2015 update: I now have a collection of 7 failed bulbs. Nanoleaf support has run hot and cold. After contacting me about my first failed bulb they asked me to wait for a replacement as they were working on a second generation. The replacement bulb finally arrived but in the mean time more bulbs failed. They are shipping replacements to me via Singapore Post, which puts the snail back in snail mail. As far as I can tell the most recent shipment was to have been arranged for over 8 weeks ago and has yet to arrive.
Another replacement note, it seems that you now have a choice of color temperatures for the bulbs. The most recent replacement I received did not match the color temperature of the bulb it replaced.

Had now for just over a year. One was replaced shortly after ordering. Now I have 2 more that are not working and need to be replaced. Unfortunately Nano Leaf is not responding to my emails requesting warranty.
Did not last even 2 years, much less than the promised 20

I bought it in October of 2014. It died July 2016. Less than 2 years. For the high price, two years is terrible. For the last year I only use it in a closet where the light is rarely on and only then for maybe 5 minutes at a time.. When I bought it, this lamp was ahead of its time. But apparently long life was not built in. So it cost me $18/year ($35 divided by 2 years). Now I have a lot of different LED lights in my home. I checked occasionally at Nanoleaf's offerings, and chose different brands because of better reviews and lower price, and better warranties.
This my initial review: (Oct 2014)
It is SO bright. Much brighter than a standard 75 watt bulb. I put in a lamp on my table beside my reading chair. I love it. And since it only takes 10 watts, and almost no heat, I don't have to be so conscious of turning it off every time to save money. I have a friend of mine who got one of these a while ago, and he loves it as well.
It does not dim, as the ad says. I tried it anyway, and sure enough it does not dim. So I am using it, and the other I plan to buy, on fixtures that I don't want to dim.
Very bright light, looks great on or off

I bought the White Leaf design one and the Black Leaf design Nanoleaf bulbs on Amazon.
The packaging looks very unique, and I really appreciated not having to look for my scissors to tear through those typical plastic sealed light bulb packagings that other brands use. This packaging was very artistic and simple, and has a green/eco-friendly feel to it. I liked that I was able to recycle the package instead of having a bunch of plastic to toss in the trash. They also included a couple of Nanoleaf stickers in the box, which was a nice touch.
The bulbs were both very bright, and exceeded my expectations. I bought a 1200lumen 75watt replacement, and a 1600 lumen 100 watt replacement, and they both were very bright. The omnidirectional lighting was refreshing, I can use them in the lamps that I normally keep my incandescents. These make great reading lights, and I keep one in my study, and one in my living room. So far it's been quite the conversation starter.
One really neat thing I noticed was that when I went to switch out the bulb into a different lamp, after having it on for at least 30 or so minutes, it was still only warm to the touch. That's pretty impressive since the bulb does not even have a heat sink, which is another plus.
I definitely recommend this bulb, and will be giving these out as presents in the future. Something not many can say before about a light bulb.
Great bulb and a sincere apology

I purchased the bulb because I found the concept intriguing. The bulb gave off terrific light and I loved the color! However, after 5 months the bulb stopped working. I contacted Customer Service and was told that there was a bad batch of bulbs and they corrected the problem. They requested I send them my information and would send me a replacement bulb for free. After 4 weeks I still heard nothing so I emailed them 2 more times. After 6 weeks I finally received a response with an apology for the lack of communication - they are using a new support system. I was promised a bulb and received one a week later. This bulb gives off the same great lighting as the first. I hope this one lasts - if it does I would definitely buy more.
Work great - too expensive

The nanoleaf is incredibly innovative. I bought quite a few of them as gifts. The work great. The simplicity of the folded circuit board should have led to much lower pricing by now. There are too many good lower cost alternatives. I wish the company well.
Great design, great performance, great customer service

Great lights! I was an original Kickstarter backer, and I was so satisfied with their initial run, that I came back and bought more. For full disclosure, one of this new batch of lights did die after half a year, and had to ask them to send me a replacement. Very prompt customer service, I got my replacements faster then it took me to remember contacting them in the first place. They sent me new bulbs, using their their latest design modifications, which I very much think improve on the older design (there's no longer holes on the PCBs to allow moisture in and mess with the electronics). Since then, I've had absolutely no problem with the lights.
Testing the Nanoleaf 1800 Bulb

I ordered one bulb from Amazon and when I tried it, it was defective and did not work.
I ordered a replacement a few week later and it has been working fine.
Since this bulb is 3500 Kelvin, the color is between warm and cool. It is more white than a warm white or soft white bulb, which is the typical color of an incandescent and many compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL). I have it installed in a fixture grouped with warm white CFL's. The light output is very bright. It is within an open glass shade and there is plenty of light output. Some people would find the brightness too intense.
What is interesting is that the light output is fairly spherical, since there are groups of (3) leds facing about a dozen different directions. This allows the light to emit from the bulb without using a glass envelope to assist in the dispersion. Depending on the light fixture this lamp is installed within, the light output may be blocked on some sides.
I was very interested in the actual light output. A whole separate discussion can occur about measuring the light output and how the 1800 lumens is determined. What I wanted to know was how close it compared to a similar rated CFL in normal day to day use.
I measured the foot-candles of the Nanoleaf compared to the CFL. The Nanoleaf is rated at 12 watts of input power and the CFL is rated at 13 watts of input power. The footcandles emitted from the Nanoleaf were about 150% more than the CFL, based on varied distances from the bulbs. (Please note that this was a simple test, not using a scientific method). The Nanoleaf is about the brightest LED I have found while keeping a typical lamp shape and not going crazy with the quantity of the LED's used.
I am curious of the brand of LED's being installed on the face of the bulb? Maybe they are Cree...
Digressing, Cree makes some very inexpensive and efficient LED lamps and they can be found at Home Depot. They are my favorite so far. Philips LED lamps were the best during the previous few years, but they are very pricey.
For an alternative, look at the 2700K 60W and 75W Cree LED lamps online at Home Depot.
I have been using lots of those and their R30 version for the past year and have been very pleased. I am not a fan of the feit LED lamps for a number of reasons.
So, this Nanoleaf lamp will need to continue to perform, as I am skeptical about the longevity. There have been too many reported failures from customers. Additionally, the cost of this lamp is very high. I was able to purchase this one at a discount.
Thanks for reading.
Long Term Review - Purchased 6 in 2014 - 2/3's failed by end of 2015
by Brassrx (2 out of 5 stars)

Would like to provide long term use report on the Nano leaf bulbs I purchased in 2014. My purchases, Jan. 9, 2014 - (1) - 1200 bulb, Feb. 15, 2014 (2) - 1200 bulbs, July 15, 2014 (1) - 1600 bulb, and July 23, 2014 (2) - 1600 bulbs. 6 total.
Jan 2, 2016 all the 1200 Bulbs stop functioning in June 2015, 1 1600 bulb stopped Sept. 2015, and 1 1600 bulb quit Dec. 31 2015. These bulbs were on average 6 to 7 hours each day, which is far short of the manufacturers claim of 30,000 life expectancy. Cannot really suggest these bulbs are a good investment given the cost and short life span. While the light brightest is very good, the long term experience I have where 2/3's of them have failed leads me to say while the idea is good, the design and engineering lags behind the concept and marketing claims.
Returned the first Nanoleaf bulb because it wouldn't work in ...

Returned the first Nanoleaf bulb because it wouldn't work in any of my lights. The second bulb only worked for about a week. They may look really neat but I'd never purchase another one.
