Fire Starter Tip and Additional Use for the Bracelet
by Kelly D. (5 out of 5 stars)

I had my doubts on the utility of the fire starting rod until I saw hissatsu5's video of starting a fire. Upon further experimentation I found the plain rounded edge to be much more effective at raising sparks than the serrated side though; it went from a very occasional small spark using the serrations to full sparking using the plain side (the plain side, where you can read the logo on the knife, has a very slight but sharp burr all around that outer edge from when it was cut out, making it dig in extremely well). The additional practice also served to wear the black coating off the rod, which the manufacturer states is necessary to get a full spark from it. It did seem to help, though it will spark off the unworn side too.

I'd also like to point out that the thickness of the bracelets weave allows you to slide other small items into it for storage as well, such as a small fishhook and a swivel for instance, making up for its bulk by increasing its utility. With a little judicious choice you will be surprised at how many things can fit, out of sight and out of your way, in between the weave.

Cool gift, and imagine it's pretty useful.

The paracord bracelet ended up as a stocking stuffer for my wife. I know, a little weird, but she really gets into big jewelry and the like, so I figured give her something that looks like a bracelet of sorts but that's also functional. What could be better, right? Well, this bad boy comes with paracord - you never know when you'll actually need some paracord! Plane goes down...you survive...might be good to hold up a thatch roof of your lean-to. Or, perhaps a fishing line? The uses are numerous! Oh, and this one also includes a flint starter, saw (unlikely to cut down a tree, but perhaps a small branch or open a package), and looks shiny!

Ok, but seriously, quite stylish for a long strand of paracord, and if you're a hiker and/or any other sort of outdoorsman/outdoorswoman, this could actually be useful if in an emergency situation. For the price, I think it's great. I bought the black one. Good luck - hope you never have to use it!

Those who take "being prepared" know how easily something as simple as a firestarter can be

Those who take "being prepared" know how easily something as simple as a firestarter can be. Flint and steel - that's it. They also know this ancient way to start a fire can save your life. The folks at The Friendly Swede have put a "many in one" life saving device including fire making into this great little tool you can always leave tied around your wrist. In addition to the ability to spark a fire there's a mini saw, mini knife, and over 17 feet of heavy duty paracord -- any one of which could save a life. Remember the scene in the movie Castaway where the stranded FedEx executive played by Tom Hanks tries desperately for days to start a fire he needed for warmth and food on the tropical island he became deserted on? All he needed was this handy but simple life saving bracelet from The Friendly Swede!

Actually Awesome - Highly Recommended

This "The Friendly Swede Adjustable Premium Paracord Bracelet with Fire Starter and Sharp Eye Knife" is a very cool bit of survival gear. We teach several disaster preparedness and survival classes at my wife's small business so I am always on the lookout for interesting products to share with my students, and this one is absolutely a keeper.

The bracelet is a bit big but so am I, so this does fit me well and looks OK on my wrist. I like that the fire starter can be used without dissembling the bracelet and it does generate a decent shower of sparks when used correctly.

The bracelet contains over 17' of paracord and a knife blade (the eye-loop used as the clasp is actually handle), I would like to have one to test but since you must disassemble the bracelet to access these, I have to take the manufacturer's word on these items.

Overall, I am fairy impressed with the quality and usefulness of this survival bracelet!

Highly Recommended!

Been wearing it for about 3 weeks now. Where the paracord contacts the eye, mine is getting a little frayed, but I've just been more careful taking it on and off which seemed to slow down the wear.

Next one I get I will definitely opt out of the serrated edge, cuts into your wrist a little and doesn't really provide any benefit to the fire starter compared to the regular edge.

Fire starter throws a shower of sparks about 3 feet. I was very impressed and surprised at how well it work.

P.S. This specific one is pretty bulky, little over an inch think all the way around. If you have smaller wrists Friendly Swede might have a few better options

Everyone hiking or camping should have one!

I was at a loss as to what gift to give my Nephew and his son for their Birthdays. They are only a few days apart in the same month. My Great Nephew is a Boyscout and of course his Dad (my Nephew) is very supportive of his son and they do a lot of hiking and camping. I did not know such a thing existed until I went to Amazon, camping and it turned up...........well they needed this. I do hope that the manufacturer puts instructions with the bracelet as to how to use the fire starter and unravel the cord to use it..and put it back together after use.....I am sure they do...I had it sent directly to them. They both acknowledged receiving it and were thrilled to have the bracelets. Thank you Manufacturer for your thoughtful product and your love of safety!

Luckily I've never had to use this but I'll review anyway. I'd feel like to much of a poser wearing something like this so I just keep it strapped to the side of my bag... and when I say bag I mean my laptop bag because I don't live an adventurous life. It's pretty thick... If you plan on wearing it make sure you're a big dude or you don't care about having something that's probably 1/3 an inch thick around your wrist.

I've used the Friendly Swede Survival Bracelet to start a camp fire while in Yosemite during winter. It works as advertised. I had recently forgotten my bracelet at a friend's house, so I ordered a new one. The new version is even better. There is a rubber piece that covers the small saw tooth blade, and I was able to get sparks from any side of the saw tooth blade. Perfect for making a statement about self-reliance or actually starting a fire.

A year or so ago my boys gave me a similar Friendly Swede paraord bracelet. While on an elk hunting trip I used it and a poncho to rig up a make-shift tepee to sit out an unexpected snow storm. Later I wrote a short note to the founder of the company to tell him how much I appreciated his product. The response I got was fantastic, ...... a personal e-mail from him and two replies from members of his staff.

This is a company totally and completely dedicated to consumer satisfaction. They believe in quality and affordability. You can't go wrong purchasing any of their survival products.

Looks great!My husband loves it.

I bought this in black as a gift for my husband. I particularly liked the multiple features that this bracelet features. It looks great on him. In all black it could be pulled off as everyday wear with just about anything. It doesn't scream survival gear, yet it packs a hidden blade, saw and fire starter to boot. It also has a longer paracord length than most other bracelets I looked at.

IT DOES LOOK BIG. My husband is has a big frame, so he wears it quite well and it looks great! But, it might look too bulky on a smaller framed person. He also had to play with the adjustment for a while to get it fit snugly the way he preferred, and keep in mind he has big wrists so the sizing is fairly large as well.
