Very Happy With Purchase.
by Tom Worshum (4 out of 5 stars)

Bought the 2.5 for my lab to protect her feet from hot asphalt, sand spurs and rocks, etc. when out walking. She tolerates them well and doesn't chew or lick on them even when just lying down relaxing.

I did read a review that stated about rolling the sock part down over the shoe when putting them on. This helps greatly and they also seem to have stretched out a bit as I've used them to ease the work of putting them on. Make sure to purchase the correct size and tighten securely when on. I haven't had any problem with them flipping around on her feet at all. Would purchase again.

Could be great...

I loved these boots until the 7th day... we have two acres and our Giant Schnauzer need projection from awns on the property. She loves running in these boots but they started to break down after 7 days. I will post pics of the boots on day 14.

The first size was too small even though I used the size chart. They appeared to be the right size for her paw but couldn't get past her ankle. So we went up a few sizes.

The front paws broke down first... her claws broke threw the cloth, just not strong enough fabric for a dogs nails.

The boots slow her down a bit... she can't beat the Husky next door anymore, but they provide great protection from the thorns. No more foot infections.

I'm going to reach out to customer service and see where that leads. These boots were designed for everyday wear according to Ruffwear... ours didn't make it past 2weeks.

Disappointed... they could be great...,

Nice fit, lacks durability
by Matthew Palmer (3 out of 5 stars)

Bought these 4 weeks ago for my German Shorthair Pointer. He's an active guy, so we do 4-8 miles a day. I run this set on his rear paws, as he has a old scarred paw that is slightly uncomfortable for him, and these seem to help with the condition of his paw, as he runs longer, and doesn't limp like he did after runs like he used to.

That's the good stuff. The bad part is he has worn through the bottom/sole of the shoe in just 4 weeks. I don't know if this is expected, but something I didn't think would happen this soon. If it is expected, a potential $70 a month is a little steep, and I may consider cheaper or more expensive alternatives that would be more economical.
3-stars because I like the fit and function, but the durability is lacking.

Great boots, but slide sometimes.

I like these dog boots much better than the other brands I have tried. They seem sturdy and comfortable, and they keep the snow out better. However, I am still on the lookout for better ones, that will stay put reliably and be quicker to put on. I ordered these boots according to the size I measured my Chessie's paws at, which meant I first bought the 3" size, but they ended up being just a tiny bit too large to stay put on my dog's feet, so I ordered another pair at the 2.75" size. Incidentally, if I had followed the breed recommendations for labs (which are similar in size) found on the packaging and online, I would have ordered the right size the first time. I have not tried the sock liners, but I did try putting on a pair of socks underneath the larger-sized pair and that just made the sliding problem worse.

I didn't have any problems with the boots sliding when he was just walking - but as soon as he ran up and down the stairs after a ball, or ran outside in the snow back and forth a couple of times - any time he made a fast turn - inevitably the front boots would slide upside-down. Even with the smaller size, I still have had some issues with the boots turning a little on his feet. Granted, he has some frenzied takeoffs, and runs all-out every single time, which often means he is sliding to a stop or sliding to make a turn.. At 2.75", they are MUCH harder to get on his feet, but they stay put a whole lot better. I can't order them any smaller than that, because they are now nearly impossible to get past the wide part of his paws. It takes between 5-15 minutes to get all four of the smaller boots on if he isn't fighting me too much. I really have to wiggle and force them on!

I did not have any problems with the velcro staying put or the sock part being to tall to fit under his dewclaws. With the smaller size, the sock part fits just right and with both sizes I was able to tighten the velcro down pretty tightly and it stayed put even after being caked with snow and ice. The sock part is not too tight on his legs, but it is tight enough that it keeps the snow out of the boot, which I cannot say for the other brands I have tried.

I bought these to play fetch for 30-45 minutes every day in the backyard during the winter, because my dog's feet were cracking and bleeding. They seem to hold up well, but I just ordered the smaller ones toward the end of this winter, so the smaller pair have only been used about 4 times for about 45 minutes each time. He seems to like them once they are on (and once he got past the initial "What are you trying to do to me?" prance and went outside with them). They have a nice thick tennis-shoe like tread on the bottom and a water-resistant (NOT waterproof) top. They were excellent for helping keep his foot dry and clean when he ripped a toenail this winter, as well. He had the bandage from the vet off in about 5 minutes - not because he pulled at it, but because he of course went running as fast as he could down the steps after a ball shortly after arrival at home. These boots stay on and protect quite well, it just is annoying having to reposition them a lot.

Stays on!

I waited 2 months after getting these to write this review. These are the 3rd kind of shoe we tried for our chocolate lab. He had a congenitally fused pad on one of his paws and had surgery on it so we are trying to protect it. The other 2 kinds wouldn't stay on. This one is a little hard to get on (you have to keep his toenails from catching, pull it way up, and pull the velcro tight) but if you get it on right it usually stays on for an entire hike. If he runs in the water it will get loose and I will fix it or change. However, I am amazed at all the running he can do in all sorts of conditions and it seems to protect his pad and stay on. At first we kept it on him all day and took it off at night but it seemed to cause some skin breakdown so now it just goes on for walks.

Hard to fit

Getting them to stay on is really hard. All 4 boots are the same.. but the back feet are not really the same as the front feet. The boots attach just fine to the back feet, and there are no problems (the strap meets up along the middle of the long bony part of the foot). However, the front feet are much more dexterous and are shaped differently. The boots are a bit rigid and it is hard to keep them on the front feet because they slide off as there is nothing for them to grab onto where the strap is (right above the dew claw). I think it would be good to get two pairs, with one sized down for the fronts. However, I had to get XXS and there is no smaller size available which would work for the fronts. I tried the socks as well, but they don't offer much help (just some padding). I think wrapping the upper part of the legs below the strap with some vet wrap would probably help prevent them from falling off. Combined with some socks and enough pressure on the strap, the boots might stay put. These will work best on long-haired/furry animals, with large/wide paws that flare out a decent bit at the end.

Well made but didn't stay on my dog's feet (they spun around so the sole was on the top)
by Texas2Step (3 out of 5 stars)

These are nicely made, but they don't stay on my dog's feet (they spun around so that the sole was on the top of his foot...and as soon as I took them off of him, he ate them. BUT...to be fair, when he had them on, they did provide great protection to his feet on rugged terrain and you could see that he appreciated the protection in the way that he ran (more maniacally than usual) and the way he tore up the turf.

Hard to put on and turn sideways but great protection!
by Bambi Sloan,Top Contributor: Pets (5 out of 5 stars)

This is hard to put on. I followed another Service Dog handler to roll the top down over the boot then once on roll it back up but anyway, I got it for my Service Dog in training and yes it will take some time to get used to them but its great protection. My only other issue is they turn. So they stay on but turn sideways. I tried with and without the socks. But so many teams use them so I must be doing something wrong. Anyway, I love that all of Ruffwear boots have a shoe sole on them which makes them amazing protection for the dog's feet!

Protect your dog's feet!
by Matt-G (5 out of 5 stars)

These are great to have for protecting your dog's feet. They work well for walking on hot surfaces or hiking. Takes my dog a little time to get used to them on her feet, but after a few minutes she barely notices them. As an Arizona resident, I can tell you first-hand that the pavement gets incredibly hot during the summer months. I usually like to take my dog everywhere I can, and she can't stand on the pavement for more than a few seconds without these things. They are a great investment. Just make sure to figure out which size you need, and tighten them up, or else they might fall off.

For people who love their pet!

These are probably the best investment we have made for our dog. She is tough on her paws when hiking and running. She used to push herself so hard she would tear the padding on here paws. She took a little while to get used to them, but has figured out shoes = fun.

Also great when we lived in Florida as the pavement is always super hot. You could see the difference in her walking when she didn't have them on.
