Kinetic Road Machine 2.0by Sammy (5 out of 5 stars)

Some reviewers state this trainer is loud, others say quiet. Fact is the Kinetic Road Machine 2.0 is much quieter than previous trainers I've rode but it's not quiet. I'm able to watch TV but with the volume turned up more than normal. It's not so loud to wake up everyone in the house. It does have a realistic road feel but I find the trainer more difficult than riding the road. As an example, on the road I am able to maintain a 20 mph average speed over a 20 mile relatively flat course. On the trainer, thus far, my best speed over the same distance was an 18 mph average. Getting the trainer into the mid 20's feels like a sprint. The faster you go on the trainer the more resistance you feel. "Riding into the wind" is an accurate description. I'll be curious to see if my speed increases on the road after a winter of training on my Kinetic. Overall I love the trainer, it's construction, ease of setup and operation. Just so you know the Road Machine 2.0 comes completely assembled. All you need to do is fold out the legs, replace your rear wheel skewer, and mount the bike. There are YouTube videos if you want to see the simple setup before purchasing. It doesn't come with a front wheel riser (which I highly recommend) so make sure you include that in your purchase.

Absolutely LOVE it. Wish I had purchased this trainer from the start! I had used a cheap fluid trainer starting in January (I had ballooned to 282lbs!) and I thought I was making good progress in getting healthy and back on the bike after a number of years off.
Well decided to upgrade to the Road Machine WOW! BIG difference in the feel, resistance and just over all quality to the trainer I was using! I actually had to take a step back and realize my progress wasn't as good as what the other trainer was telling me. Added the 12b flywheel and things got even more close to home. I felt like I was having to start all over again....but at least it was with the right gear this time.
I use the trainer every morning at 4am and cycle 15-20 miles. I have to get up that early just to make sure I have time to get ready for work. People call me insane...I say its dedication in getting my life back. The biggest changes to my physical condition happened when I changed over to the Road Machine (and added the flywheel). Where I started out at 282lbs, I am not at 259/260lbs. Learning to track Heart Rate zones, times and effort. IF you are just starting out....forget speed and distance! Work on Time and Effort! Get in your Zones with the Kinetic Road Machine!
My only regret? Not being light enough to use the Rock N Roll trainer. Looks like it would have been a hoot!
LOUD!!!

This thing is so ridiculously loud I had the manager of my condo was calling within 5 min of first use to ask me what the hell I was doing. it sounded like the building was falling down... and this condo is all concrete construction! Unless I got a bad unit, this thing is useless for condo or apt use... Returning mine
Great trainer to avoid winter weight gain and gym memberships.

I can't even believe how well this kinetic trainer has worked out! It's saving me this winter for sure. I was between getting a gym membership or this trainer. I don't minding getting out for a walk/hike in cold weather, but a bike ride below 40F is just not my thing. I went with the cadillac of cycle trainers, because I wanted this to be a long term use investment.
I've been using this daily since November and it is a dream! I currently have it on tile with their turntable riser ring. I have a Trek mountain bike with mountain bike tires and it fits perfectly. I only had to swap out the rear wheel skewer which comes included. If you have second bike/user that will be training, the skewer is also sold separately (http://amzn.to/1NQ8aon) here on Amazon for just under $10.
I do have road tires that I think would be quieter, but haven't put them on yet. It is loud, probably a little bit quieter than a blender, but I use some noise canceling ear plugs to listen to music or watch Netflix.
If you want to track cadence/distance and all of that other fun stuff, I will recommend the Cateye Double Strada wireless bike computer. Having the bike on a trainer means the computer and sensors need to hook up to the back wheel (the one that moves). I had ordered another brand and model and the wireless distance was only 60mm. This model ranges from 50-100mm and can track cadence, speed, and distance.
I'm very happy with Kinetic as a company so far and my legs and butt are appreciative too.
Bring Outdoor Riding Indoors

If you want to be able to ride your bike indoors, a trainer like this is perfect solution. On days when the weather is bad or when I just don't want to deal with traffic, this trainer is a great way to get some exercise. When paired with the Kinetic inRide sensor and connected to Zwift, it is a lot of fun and brings outdoor riding indoors.
I researched trainers pretty heavily before I chose the Kinetic. The reason I chose Kinetic is because it was a brand that was consistently recommended by both professionals and everyday riders. It is built sturdy and has some smart engineering that makes it almost immune to leaks. So far I've ridden over 150 miles on it and it has preformed flawlessly.
Top-quality fluid trainer

At first, I had quite a problem fitting my bike into the trainer. This is no fault of the trainer, I'm just saying it has an initial learning curve to get the hang of. I can fit my bike onto it quite easily now after doing it a couple times.
Tip: as you move the roller outwards to fit your bike, it will seem to stop moving at some point and your bike may not fit. Keep twisting the knob and it will open up to accommodate your back wheel.
I did not have to assemble the trainer in any way, but if you get one where the legs are unattached or something, I imagine it is a simple assembly.
As far as noise is concerned, I have hardwood floors and don't have a mat underneath the bike/trainer. I can use it in the living room while my girlfriend watches a movie and it doesn't bother her at all. If you're going to purchase this trainer, I would recommend holding off on a mat until you try it for yourself to check the noise level.
Overall, it's great. Compact, well-made, quiet and, being a fluid trainer, self-adjusting.
Very pleased with this trainer purchase

Very pleased with this trainer purchase. I did quite a bit of research between this unit and the CycleOps fluid 2 trainer and it worked out well. Set up was easy - I watched a video online just to make sure that I did it correctly. The trainer is very well built and solid. It holds the bike securely and I have no concern for tipping this unit over. The trainer provides plenty of resistance and it is reasonably quiet. Pedaling is smooth and it provides good response as you accelerate. I also purchased Garmin speed and cadence sensors to use with Zwift. I did not purchase the inRide Power Meter since I have had issues with bluetooth pairing on my computer and there were a number of bad reviews on Amazon regarding pairing the sensor.
Excellent Indoor Trainer

I am a semi-serious cyclist living in Michigan, meaning that five months of the year, I cannot cycle outdoors because of snow, salt-laden roads, or brutally cold temperatures. The indoor trainer allows me to use my own bike indoors, keeping me fit for when spring comes around and keeping my riding geometry consistent.
For years, I used a magnetic bicycle trainer, but the magnetic trainer can be limited as to how much resistance you can get while riding. What I mean by this, is that in order to get the same resistance with the magnetic trainer as you would get on the road, you need to ride in a higher gear on the trainer. This is not a big deal until you get strong enough that even the highest gear does not give you enough resistance anymore, and tightening the roller any more against the tire will either damage the bike or the trainer.
The fluid trainer does a much better job of simulating true road resistance, provided you set it up correctly. Using the trainer over the winter--when I go out riding in the spring, it's like I was never off the bike and I crush my friends that did not train over the winter!
In the box was included a through axle and a lift cup for the front tire, meaning that for most bikes, the trainer is ready to use out-of-the-box. Just replace the rear through axle on your bike with the included through axle, attach the bike to the trainer at the rear axle, set the front tire in the lift cup, and you're ready to go. The proper way to get the right resistance on the rear tire is to do the following: (1) inflate the rear tire to the normal pressure; (2) use the rear knob to adjust the roller until it just starts touching the rear tire; (3) tighten the knob about 3-4 more full rotations; (4) grab the rear tire and suddenly start and stop the movement of the tire--if it slips on the roller, tighten another 1/2 turn at a time until the tire no longer slips; (5) at that point, tighten another 1/4 turn. With this procedure, you will feel like you are riding on a level road with a very slight headwind. Adjustments will be needed every month or so as your tire loses pressure, which is normal.
I have been using the fluid trainer now for a little over a month, about four times per week, 45 minutes at a time. Everything is working great with it, and I hope to get many years of service out of it. I have a 26" mountain bike with hybrid tires mounted on the trainer. The noise level is less than it was with the magnetic trainer. I can play the TV at elevated volume, but at about 80% of what I had with the magnetic trainer. The trainer can also handle a 29" bike, which another reason I upgraded, since my older magnetic trainer could only handle a 26" bike.
Tougher than on the road

I have been using this product for about a month now. It is very simple to set up and use and I find myself turning to it even when there is any type of excess wind, let alone precipitation. I do not have to follow my same old routine of putting on sunscreen, making sure I have water bottles, gloves, have sufficient warm gear on, that I have my computer on board and ready, and I am carrying everything I need on my person. I wake up, put on my shorts, shoes, and shirt, and I am off (even without putting in my contact lenses). Others have stated that this is more difficult than riding on the road and I agree. I can typically ride easily 2-3 hours on the road. 1.33 hours on this and I am worn out. In an odd twist, I find that my breathing is more taxing when I ride on this machine than the road, but my heart rate is not as high. I place my Microsoft Surface next to me (with headphones) and ride in my garage while watching Netflix. It's great.
Worth the money.

It was easy to install. I was worried that it wouldn't provide enough resistance for a reasonable workout. My worries were put to rest on the first use. As a training device it works as advertised. I do not regret purchasing it. I will use it during bouts of bad weather and peak summer heat to maintain fitness level. The only drawback would be if I had only one bike. Swapping your only bike from a trainer to a road bike could be a bit annoying even though the process takes less than 5 min. But then I have several bikes and dedicating one as a trainer isn't a problem. This is my first trainer so you will have to see other reviews for comparisons. I paid more to get a better made device that could stand the test of time. It's too early to tell for that. I will follow up in a year or so if that is a feedback option.
