Badass but I wish there was a way to catch all the glass! We have a lot of kids at the lake house and can't use it because a few pieces of glass fall off and don't stay attached to the main cork part. Just a thought Let me know if something is out there or an idea.

Form over Function
by curious consumer (3 out of 5 stars)
June 15, 2017

As might be expected from Karim Rashid, form is more important than function. This object provides a fun combination of historic tradition and modern design swagger (more elegant than a saber) - Definitely adds a sense of theatrics to opening your bottles of champagne, but truthfully the back edge of a heavy knife would work better. Nicely packaged - gift worthy and sturdy enough for long term storage or display.

I've used it a dozen times and it works great. My only complaint is that it suffers a small nick in the metal with every use. Otherwise, it's a great piece for entertaining.

SOLD UNDER THE PRETENSE AS NEW, ITEM WAS TARNISHED AND SCRATCHED

Item was sold as new. When we received, it was clearly used. The sabre was scratched on the handle and it was tarnished.

LOOKS LIKE A CLASSY APPROACH!
by R. Wright (3 out of 5 stars)
December 27, 2015

Looks like a cool idea. As a hot air balloon pilot, I have opened about 2500 bottles of champagne this way to celebrate balloon flights. Multiple bottles at the end of most flights. My experience is you need something with some heft (weight) to it. I have been using a 30" kris which is thoroughly stained from champagne. I have used a hunting knife and a cleaver. Won't work with a spoon or lightweight implement.

If I didn't have my Kris I'd get one of these. Looks classy.

OH, And... my experience is that the top of the bottle sails "over there" 15 feet away when outside, so don't try it underneath your wine glass rack.

Do not bring to defend your honor!
by Christian Brielmaier (4 out of 5 stars)
November 30, 2015

I would love to give the champagne Sabre a full 5 stars, but I fear that it has gotten me into quite a precarious situation. I was under the distinct impression that I would be receiving nothing but the finest duel worthy cutlery. When I arrived at the prescribed hour to face my challenger and unwrapped what I foretold to be the greatest Sabre in all the land, the eyes of the crowd betrayed me. What started as blank stares turned into riotous laughter as unveiled this chrome phallic club. Please be ware that this is not sharp and you will look like a fool on judgement day :(

Very shiny but I think it's a bit overpriced for what it is...

Heavy duty saber-ing!

If you can't sabre a bottle with this then you have no hope of doing so. This is a substantial piece and very sleek looking when not in use.

it looks impressive and has a nice feel to it
by Zach (3 out of 5 stars)

The craftsmanship of the Menu Champagne Sabre is high end, it looks impressive and has a nice feel to it. For those that don't know how this works, the Sabre is a bit misleading in it's name, it isn't a sharp sword or anything like that. The technique to cut the top of a champagne bottle off isn't actually cutting it but it's really just putting stress on the micro fissures already present at the top of the neck of the bottle. Now of course if you don't want to spend $150, you can just a butter knife, a spoon, a hunting knife, pretty much anything metal and do the same thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fojENKRv8Aw
