DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!by Fernando (1 out of 5 stars)

THEY BUILD THESE THINGS TO BREAK ON YOU IN LESS THAN A YEAR!!! I BOUGHT A SHAVER IN MARCH 2015. IT WORKED GREAT AT FIRST, BUT STOPPED WORKING AFTER ONLY 10 MONTHS!! I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SO THEY REPLACED IT.
NOW THE REPLACEMENT HAS STOPPED WORKING AS OF YESTERDAY.. ALSO IN LESS THAN A YEAR! THEY EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TO CALL ME A "CRYBABY" IN ONE OF THEIR EMAILS. I TRIED TO POST A PICTURE OF THE EMAIL WHERE THEY INSULTED ME, BUT AMAZON KEEPS REJECTING IT.
THIS IS HOW SKULL SHAVER VIEWS ITS CUSTOMERS:

This is not a good product. I have ordered and replaced this product three times given that each time I have used it it has broken down for no particular reason. The customer service at amazon has been great in getting me replacements. Thank you amazon. However, the product manufacturer skull shaver's customer service is terrible. There is no easy way to say this. When I called the customer service at skull shaver, they treated me with such disdain and disrespect that it was insulting. They were dismissive of the fact that I purchased there product three times. I will personally reach out to amazon and tell them that this product they are selling on their site is garbage. It works great for a while but then just stops working. This happen to me three times and the manufacturer customer service does not care and does not try to fix the issue. It is dishearting and I don't feel that amazon should have these type of vendors on their website.
Not suitable unless you shave every day; cannot take ANY water; does not hold charge after the first

I have purchased this same shaver four different times over the past year. It works great the first 1-2 shaves but subsequently breaks down after a few weeks. The device is too sensitive and does not work if 1) You shave a few times a week instead of virtually every day, 2) Get ANY water on the device, even incidentally while cleaning, 3) you require more than 15min charge after the first few shaves.
I shave 2-3x a week and if there is more than 2 days growth it kills the shaver. Also even though I am meticulous while cleaning (and following the YouTube video) inevitably water gets in and the device loses its charge. After initially holding its charge when you first receive the device, over the following weeks and months the charge holds less and less until after the first month I can only shave with the device plugged in.
The device works great but you have to shave every day and never get it wet (and hope that you get a device that holds its charge).
I was supremely disappointed as initially the device worked well and I had such high hopes. But after going through 3 shavers (and currently losing hope on my fourth), I am sad to say I will need to switch brands.
The first time the customer service was great and sent me a new shaver after the first one died. But after the second (and third) shaver died I received no response after emailing multiple times (there is no listed phone number). Due to the lack of response I was forced to write the poor review above.
The concept is great unfortunately the product still has far too many flaws. My current shaver is about dead and after this one dies I have no desire to pay for yet another device.
Great product...for a month or so...then makes a great paperweight

It does a fantastic job....when it works. I have had issues twice. The led light goes out and it does not hold a charge. I shave everyday and charge when needed (less often when the LED works and I could see when it was needed). You guys did send me another one after my first complaint, but when I asked for shipping instructions and how to deal with cost, customer service was rude and did not provide the information fter I had already purchased a box to ship and postage. So I decided it wasn't deserving of my time and effort. I kept it and it sits as a paperweight under my sink. Additionally, the replacement you sent had just had the same thing happen. The defect rate you claim is very misleading and is not the problem. It is not defective onj arrival (defect rate), it is just not durable enough to do the job intended and for the cost it should last. Two of the three people I raved about this product to have told me the same thing, which bothers me. I have not left a review for this reason until now since it would be a somewhat undeserving two-star review. Further, I believe the product is amazing when it works, but if a Ferrari only drove well for 50 miles, nobody would buy one again. I am in that boat and will likely go back to traditional shaving or use my reliable norelco after the two new blades I regrettably purchased wear out or until I can't take the charge issues anymore. This is very unfortunate, but when I purchased this product it was almost exclusively a 5-star item...now it is only 3.5 and only 54% are 5-stars so I assume others are having the same issues I am. Great at first, useless later. I hope I can change this review to something more positive depending on customer service; however, the customer service has just as much fluctuation as the product. Some are undeniably great, others are terrible and rude so I am not expecting much.
Is it possible to get a battery for this thing? That would maybe make it salvageable, but paying $300+ every eight months for a head shave is not worth it to keep replacing.
BUYER BEWARE!!!

I purchased the shaver in the beginning of December. I found it to be sufficient for its intended purpose: quick maintenance of my shaved head for days when a full shave wasn't feasible. But the shave could be closer, and I found myself opting for a razor shave any time I needed to look fairly presentable. But it is very ergonomic and easy to use.
HOWEVER...I went to try it last night, and found that the battery was completely dead. The light on the unit wouldn't even glow, even after I attempted to charge it for the suggested 2.5 hours.
My frustration mounted when I contacted the company. The instructed me to ship the product back to them...AT MY EXPENSE! When I complained that I shouldn't have to pay a dime to have them fix a shaver that had only last 3 months (and used no more than two dozen times), they advised that they understood my frustration, and were willing to waive the $5 shipping and handling fee they normally charge for warranty returns!!!
So, it's a half-decent product that appears to be utterly unreliable, backed by a customer service system that is a blatant rip-off.
Never again...it's on to a different company.
Great Concept, Functional Product, Poor Execution, Bad Support

[Quick Summary]
Yay:
- Great Design Concept
- Very Good Battery Life
Nay:
- Not Water Resistent
- Extremely Overpriced
- Very Inconsistent Customer Service and Poor Support
After nearly a year of usage, I can say that the Skull Shaver Smart combines great form and great function to create a fine, but somewhat overpriced product, backed by poor support. It has some problems, but the functionality is good enough that it is possible to endure or work around the problems. Of all of the shavers that I have used over recent years, the Skull Shaver Smart has been one of the best functioning shavers for my purposes. It will not be ideal for everyone, but if you read the rest of this review and manage your expectations, you can decide if this is the right shaver for you, along with some fixes I've implemented to make the product slightly better.
[Intro]
Over the past 10 years I've used a number of different electric shavers to shave my head. I've gone from shaver to shaver, always looking for the perfect shaver. In fact, I perform this search about once a year to see if I can find anything better. My first experience with Skull Shaver was with the Skull Shaver Original product, which cost me just a bit under 100USD. Anyone else who's used it will tell you it was quite terrible. Skull Shaver used to use NiMH batteries that were under-powered and never lasted very long so as much as I wanted to love the product, it simply would not last long enough to make it practical. The terrible icing on the terrible cake was that it was quite an expensive shaver as well, so I returned it to Amazon straight away and swore off the product.
Fast-forward to January 2015 when during my yearly search I saw that Skull Shaver had updated their terrible product line with a non-terrible battery, an LCD battery gauge, and a higher price. Against my better judgement, I decided to give it a shot.
[Initial Impressions]
The Skull Shaver Smart came in a very stout and nice heavy-duty cardboard box, which I am confident will do well to product the product in transit in nearly any circumstance. The box contained the Skull Shaver Smart unit, a shaving head, a charger, instructions, and a felt carrying bag. It also happened to come with a sheet that promised free accessories in exchange for reviews on Amazon or any other "approved" website. While I understand that reviews are important for products that are to succeed, I take serious issue with any company who effectively bribes their customers into leaving reviews. I find it to be a shady and dishonest practice that is a conflict of interest.
[Usage]
Compared to the Skull Shaver Original, the Smart is fantastic, but that is only because of the switch to a Lithium Ion battery. While the original shaver barely lasted more than a couple uses, this one lasts me more than a week on a single charge. Skull Shaver claims up to 90 minutes of usage, and it seems to be about right. The effect of the change was monumental, and it turned an unusable product into a serious contender.
The Skull Shaver is designed to be "palmed" in your hand and it does a reasonable job at succeeding in that purpose. The unit itself is a bit bulky and I would have liked to see more effort go into making a sleeker design, especially for the price. Using the shaver is simple enough though, and provides a pretty closes shave. I've never shaved my head with a blade, but as far as electric shavers go this works quite well. I have found that it provides the best performance when wet shaving but be warned! Although the box and instructions say that it can be used for wet shaves, the shaver body itself is not water resistant. A crying shame considering how much better wet shaving performance is, and how much this thing costs.
[Issues]
The charger. While most personal grooming products tend to use their own proprietary chargers because of an unusual charge voltage or current needed, the Skull Shaver Smart only requires 5V and 1A. You know what else can provide 5V at 1A? Pretty much every cell phone and tablet USB charger on the planet. Skull Shaver could have easily put a USB Micro connector on the body instead of the annoying two-prong connector and eliminated the need for yet another charger to carry while traveling. This was a huge missed opportunity.
The shaving head. Every other electric shaver I've used allows you to quickly and easily remove the blades from the head and rinse them clean as needed. Although the blades can technically be removed from the head, Skull Shaver claims that these are not designed to be removable, and doing so can break them. Indeed, if you check out the reviews for Skull Shaver Replacement Blades
, you will note that many people who have tried to clean the blades in this way have ended up breaking the plastic clips that hold them in. Instead, Skull Shaver recommends that you "rinse the head under water while running the shaver" to clean them, but of course you have to be careful not to get the body itself wet as it is not waterproof. What a silly design.
The customer service. I will say that the odds are you will not have to contact their customer service. Statistically speaking, you will not have a problem, but if you do, it's a toss-up as to what your experience will be. A couple weeks into using my shaver I had issues with the unit turning on reliably. I contacted Skull Shaver's support and was told that I would have to ship them my broken unit before a replacement could be sent out. This meant that I would possibly be without a shaver for a week or more, which is a problem for any personal grooming product that one depends on, especially for heavy travelers such as myself. Any other time I've ever had a problem similar to this, companies have always offered an "escrow" option of sorts, where the replacement product is shipped immediately, but a credit card number is held as a guarantee to ensure that the defective product is returned. It's a perfectly reasonable policy and I've been happy to provide my number when asked so I can get the replacement process expedited. Skull Shaver provides no such policy. After escalating my issue to a supervisor and I explained that I had to leave on a business trip in a couple days and that I could not wait for it to get there before they shipped a replacement, the supervisor said that if I can give her a tracking number by 4PM that day that showed scanning activity, she would be willing to ship it out that day. This "solution" was provided to me with only about 30 minutes to spare so I busted my ass and raced to the post office on my bike to get there in time, and called the supervisor back at 3:57PM while in line and she said that it was too late, even though I had met her arbitrary time constraint. Not only that, but the Post Office said that it was silly for the supervisor to provide such a deadline because scanning activity isn't reported or updated instantly. It gets updated every night. As a result, not only was I sent on a wild goose chase, I ended up buying ANOTHER Skull Shaver on Amazon and had to pay for overnight shipping to get it in time for my trip. Skull Shaver never followed up to apologize, or to make sure that I ever received my replacement shaver.
[Further In-Depth Investigation]
After I got back from my trip the electrical engineer within me got curious and I decided to open up the shaver and inspect it to see check out the build quality. While it is more or less good construction, the retail cost of the unit is not in any way commensurate with the build quality of the shaver. Based on my own design and manufacturing experience I would be genuinely surprised if the unit cost more than 20USD to manufacture. Very simple circuit, simple motor, and a VERY cheap Lithium Ion battery. I looked up the part number for the 1400mAh battery in the unit and found that it costs about 1USD per cell in quantity. For only about 2-3 dollars more, they could have included a 2000mAh cell from Panasonic. That's right. For only a couple of dollars more they could have increased the run time of the shaver by an additional 42%, and they chose not to. If this was a low-margin shaver, I would forgive them, but the price premium is too steep for it to sit well with me. It's greedy.
Additionally, with only some small design tweaks they could have easily made the shaver water resistant and made wet-shaving in the shower much easier, but that would require them to actually care.
[The Final Word]
Skull Shaver is a great product with poor execution and support. This is a product and company that manages to succeed in spite of itself, but I am not sure how much longer they can keep it up. Part of me wants them to fail just so they can learn from their mistakes, but the other part of me wants the shaver to continue to exist because it's still my best option at the moment.
[Fixes]
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ADVICE WILL NOT ONLY VOID YOUR WARRANTY, BUT CAN BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. Mistakes in attempting any of these will at best result in a non-working device and at worst could catch something on fire.
I fixed a number of the issues on my own unit and have made it much better, but it comes at the "cost" of not being able to use Skull Shaver's excellent warranty service should it fail. For me it was worth it, but some of the tweaks require some tech savvy. I should say that I have a great deal of soldering and rework experience, and I also have my own battery spot welder so some of these fixes may not be easy to implement for most people.
Battery Upgrade:
I bought my own 2000mAh Panasonic NCR18500 cells to replace the cheap Chinese 1400mAh cells that the unit came with. I was not able to find any vendors that sold the cells with tabs already welded to the battery, so I did have to break out my spot welder for this one. I do not recommend this particular upgrade for most people, but I think 90 minutes should suffice for most users anyway.
Water Resistance:
Although it made the display less pretty, I applied some urethane sealant to the inside of the case and to the PCB to shield it against corrosion from exposure to moisture. It is not waterproof, but it's water-resistant enough that I've been now able to shave in the shower every day for the past six months and after an inspection today found no signs of water ingress or corrosion on the inside.
Charging:
This one is the easiest fix of them all as it doesn't even require to take the shaver apart! Take a spare USB Micro female connector or if you don't have any spares, pick up a USB Micro Male to Female Sync & Charging Extension Cable and cut off the female end of the cable. Cut-off the male end of the Skull Shaver charger, leaving an inch or two of wire on the end to strip and use. Connect the positive wire on the Skull Shaver connector (it has markings, see photos) to the positive lead of the micro cable, and do the same with the respective negative leads. Heat shrink over the connection, and VOILA! A perfect USB Micro to Skull Shaver adapter. I've used mine exclusively to charge my Skull Shaver using any 5V 1A cell phone charger or USB port and it works great. I no longer have to worry about carrying around yet another bulky and annoying adapter when I travel.
JUNK

When I first got this I loved it. it worked great for several months and I had a close comfortable shave. Then I bought replacement blades. They must have changed manufacturers on their blades because all the blades I have received since then have been total junk. The logos on the 5 heads are different than the original as well. The replacement blades are dull, and more often rip hairs out of my face than cut them. Its very painful to shave with. It also finally died for no reason yesterday. when I plug it in, it constantly pulses the motor. power button does nothing. I wish this didn't keep showing up at the top of "best razors for bald guys" lists. Its terrible.
Creative design. Terrible execution. Manufacturing is disappointing even by Chinese standards.

I decided to ignore all the recent negative reviews and order this anyway because I thought the design was original and very creative. I was so excited when this finally arrived. My joy slowly dwindled into frustration. I think I may have been sent a returned or refurbished unit. I ordered a few other things along with this and although the main Amazon box was sealed, the box containing the shaving unit had tape around the whole thing that had been cut. The box was just sitting there already opened. I know it wasn't the post office that did this because the main box containing everything was still sealed. Also, when I examined the unit closely, there were scuffs and marks on some of the metal pieces on the bottom. If I was sold a returned/refurbished unit for full retail, that is a very shady thing to do.
I decided to give the shaver a shot anyway. I followed the charging instructions and when I turned the shaver on for the first time, the motor started whirring at full speed but quickly slowed down. Every time I would turn the shaver on and off, this would happen. The motor would not stay at a fast constant speed. Although tentative, I decided to try shaving with it anyway. With the blades moving so slowly, it kinda grabbed and pulled some of the hair instead of just gliding over and shaving.
You can tell this is a shoddy job at manufacturing even by Chinese standards. I feel like I've purchased a kid's toy shaver for $100. I really wanted this shaver to work. I was so excited about the design and how convenient it would be. I've already requested a refund. UPS will be coming to my home to pick up the shaver. I don't know if Amazon or Skull Shaver will pay for the return shipping for this. I feel bad if it's Amazon. Skull Shaver should definitely be responsible for all fees involving returns and replacements.
It actually feels like it gives me a closer shave than the balding ...

I've been using the Wahl balding clippers for a couple years now, but it just takes so long so shave my head with them. So I thought I would give this a try. It has only been a week now but I thought I could confidently give some early feedback (I will update this review if my experience changes).
The Skull Shaver does make relatively quick work of shaving my head. I have to go over each section a few times in different directions, but that isn't anything abnormal for this type of razor. It actually feels like it gives me a closer shave than the balding clippers which I appreciate. Cleaning is quick and easy just like the instructions say!
The only real complaint I have so far is that I cannot get it to line up my beard line (I keep a beard). I didn't expect a perfectly straight line and figured I would have to "clean up" the line between my head and my beard, but it seems to ignore most of the hairs within about a half inch of my beard line. This is probably because I cannot get the angle right since I'm avoiding passing it over the long hair of my beard. With that said, I was already figuring on having to whip out the clippers to touch up along the beard anyway, so I am not going to complain any more about it. Takes me maybe an extra five seconds on each side to clean it up.
All-in-all, after a week I'm very happy with the close shave and the ease of use. As of right now I can recommend this item. Like I said earlier, if that changes I will update this review!
Quality decline makes it too expensive even though it is the closest electric shaver
by micheal (1 out of 5 stars)

I have been a faithful Bald Eagle use for about 4 years now. The first one I owned was the best one so far. I feel like there has been a marked decline in their quality. The first one I owned lasted me almost 3 years. The second one I owned lasted about 6 months and then went dead and wont hold a charge at all. I thought the new features were awesome so I assumed I got a bad one and reordered an even newer one. The newer one has many problems. It will not shave while charging (which the other 2 did this) and it went dead after just under 3 months. Also, it now sounds like something is rattling around inside. I have to resort to using my very first one (which wont hold a charge without the power cord) to shave now while I weigh my options.
Pros: The closest shave out of any electric razor
Cons: probably will not last you very long
The replacement blades are pricey and have had a drop in quality along with the shaver over the past 4 years
