it can work for a note 8 , but make it easier with this trick
by Carlos R. (5 out of 5 stars)

the single wrap is supposed to wrap around the handlebar and then around the phone. if you have an iphone 7+ 8+ or Note 8 / note 9 , just use zip ties.

what i mean is the mount already has slots for zip ties since that is how its attached to the packaging. i was able to use the same slots to wrap secure the mount to my handle bars. now the strap just has to wrap around the phone only and not the bar AND phone.

yes, the note 8 will fit with it how its supposed to be mounted, but with my otterbox like case, its really tight. and if you have a note 8 and tempered glass protector you know that the protectors crack all the time because of the curved screen. i want to avoid the extra tight band around my phone so it wont crack the protector.

with the zip the band is still tight enough to hold the phone for any basic commuting. and probably light to medium trail riding.

the other user who says the mount broke his phone doesnt know what he is doing? i cant see how that could happen with proper use. though if it makes you paranoid, i would say get at least a slim case to use it when putting it into this mount.

i will try to get a photo of the note 8 (in thick case) in the mount, but at the time my phone is my only camera.... so thats not going to happen.

I'm pretty sure this mount will survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
by DennisM (5 out of 5 stars)
February 15, 2017

After the Nuclear Armageddon, the only likely survivors will be a) Twinkies, b) cockroaches, c) zombies, and d) These mounts. On the plus side, the zombies and roaches will be able to cycle through the post-apocalyptic wasteland, eating Twinkies, without worrying about their smartphones.

Seriously. These are solid, straightforward mounts with failure of the only real "moving part"-- the rubber strap-- unlikely unless it's cut. My ONLY criticism, as with other reviews for the product, is the pre-ride upper body workout that's required to get the rubber strap around my medium-wide phone (a Nexus 5) and placement of the strap that obscures part of the screen. The first isn't really a big issue (although my heart was in my teeth the first few times, wondering if the pressure was enough to shatter the glass display) and the second is potentially "workable" if you play with the position of the phone to accommodate the app(s) you're using.

There are other designs that don't have those "drawbacks," but I'm much happier trusting my uninsured/no-replacement-plan phone to this one.

Although a bit pricey, the band works fantastically well that I ended up getting another one so I can have my iPhone 6 (in an otterbox case) and an external battery right behind it as shown in the picture. The ease of use as well as its solid reliability make it a worthwhile product.

Use the HandleBand to Mount a Bike Light on the Stem!
by GENED (5 out of 5 stars)
October 22, 2015

I love this product for a different reason...maybe Nite Ize hasn't even realized this use case! I have a bike that has Cane Creek inline-brakes on the cross-section of the handlebars which doesn't leave any room for mounting a bike headlight (e.g. a Magicshine or Chinese knockoff). This HandleBand product allows me to mount my headlight on the stem securely and hold the light slightly higher than the handlebar so it's shining straight down the singletrack. I bet there are thousands of cyclocross riders or others that would love to be able to mount their lights on the stem rather than the handlebar. Hopefully anyone wishing to mount their bike lights on the stem will see this this post!

It does the job, but...

The price was right, and this smartphone holder was easy to install. With my smaller-sized Samsung phone, the strap that holds the phone in place was not super-tight. Nevertheless, I've never lost the phone from the holder. The strap does cover a portion of the screen, making it a little difficult to use the touchscreen while riding. The holder also tends to slip and swivel a bit, since the strap does not grip the bike post very snugly. But again, the price was right, and it's easy to use. It does the job.

Works really well! Allows me to use my phone as I ride
by Ardmom (5 out of 5 stars)

This thing has worked really well for me. I have a road bike and I have this thing attached to the stem on top of the headset. I've probably used it 15-20 times and it has held my phone steady every time, even though I have ridden over some roads that were really bumpy because they had been milled in preparation for re-paving. I have used it with an iphone 6 and an axon mini phone, which is about the same size. A minor complaint, but one that is not really the fault of this band, is that on bumpy roads sometimes the front of the phone bumps against the handlebar a little bit, but since I have a case on the phone that is not really a problem. Because the portion of the band that goes over the phone is not a solid strip but is made up of two thinner strips with a space in the middle, you can press your phone's touchscreen in between the two thinner bands, allowing full functionality with the app that I use for tracking my ride. Overall highly recommend.

A solid product

My phone is a Droid DNA; with a 5" diagonal screen, it's a very wide phone. After my first one broke - having fallen off my bike at speed due to my last shoddy phone holder - I put my new one in an OtterBox, making it less prone to ground strikes, but even wider.

That being said, although tricky to get around the phone, the HandleBand does more than an adequate job of keeping the phone on my bike, even during bumpy trips. Mind you, I ride bike on paved trails, but with tree roots popping up the pavement in some places, and transitions between the trail and streets, etc., my bike is subjected to a lot of bumps at speed.

This is where my first phone holder failed, catastrophically, as the phone clamp separated from the bike clamp during a jarring bump, sending my phone flying into the pavement. Not so with the HandleBand; with its minimalist construction and no mechanical parts, save the metal band lock/ bottle opener, it has no parts that can break off. The material of which the band is made is elastic enough to stretch over my phone (case and all) but strong and "grippy" enough to keep everything on the bike.

My only real issue is the way the band goes over the screen, as certain apps will. have different areas of the screen that are more important than others. This can make unlocking the phone, swapping music tracks, starting EndoMondo, etc. a slight chore if the phone isn't strapped down just so, depending on one's phone, OS, and apps.

Fantastic for bike geeks - even with mega phones like the Note 3
by Sethster (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought a HandleBand for myself in April 2014. I liked it so much that I have since gifted 2 more to my cycling friends. This ingenious band works perfectly for my previous Samsung Galaxy S4 and newer Note 3 (Its a tank!) as well as my friends' iPhones. I have mounted it on the handlebar stems on my road bikes. It re-mounts quickly and easily between bikes. I've put over 1,000 miles on it already. Check out the customer photos and you can see some pictures of my Note 3 in its protective Trident Cyclops case secured with the HandleBand.

Trident Case CY-SAM-GNOTE3-RED Cyclops Series Case for Samsung Gnote3 - Carrying Case - Retail Packaging - Red

I have used Handleband with mapmyride and my current favorite bike app, ridewithgps. Sure, the band obscures a part of the screen, but it turns out that you can secure it so the the band lies between the map and the stats on the ridewtihgps app, covering only a small portion of the info that you might want to see while moving. I'll miss you, but buh-bye Garmin Edge. This is a well designed, incredibly useful and well-priced mount. Hope this review helps my fellow bike geeks. Ride safely...

THE best phone holder for your bike! Always stays on ... even in a crash!
by Andreas (5 out of 5 stars)
May 6, 2015

After looking for long for a phone holder for my bike, I kept seeing reviews saying that every other one failed for multiple users, even the ones with good start reviews. This one just works. It hold your phone very tightly ... it seems like it's almost too tight when you stretch it to go across the face and sides of your phone, but that's the idea - keep your phone attached!

Simple construction

It's mainly a single piece of silicon rubber so there's really nothing to break apart and nothing to get loose. The base and part that holds the phone down are all one piece and it's a purposely flexible material so no worries about a rigid material getting flexed to many times, have anything come loose, etc.! When safety is concerned, simple is good.

Survives a crash fine

Yes, recently I sadly put this to the test when I was going 21 mph on a straight away of an asphalt bike path and crashed. How did it do? It did a lot better than my skin/road rash! Actually it held my phone completely intact and immobile. When I picked-up my bike the phone and holder were in exactly the same place and orientation as they were right before the crash. I hope not to try this again, but the Nite Ize HandleBand did exactly what it was supposed to - keep my phone safe!

Size

Due to it's completely rubbery/flexible nature, it looks like it will fit just about any phone. It fit my Samsung Galaxy S4 fine.

Note that it's extremely quick to remove your phone or remove the whole HandleBand from your bike. Approximately 3 seconds to take your phone out and another 1-2 to unclip from your bike.

I've been recommending it to friends like crazy.

Works GR8!!
by COME ON MAN!! (5 out of 5 stars)

I have an i6 in a HD otterbox case. Fits perfectly. Mounted to the neck between the post & handlebars to display the phone vertically. Between the rubber of the holder & case the shock to the phone is completely mitigated. Keep in mind when riding in daylight you really can't peek & see your screen. Secure means to hold your phone & access at stop lights. Handy when using GPS based apps to track your rides.
