Great toothpaste without the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it that is an irritant for me.

I've realized I have "Burning Mouth Syndrome". For the last 5-6 years I've tried to figure out what is causing it. Went to my doctor, ENT doctors and nobody had a solution. Finally I looked at an ingredient after my dentist said that it could be SLS that is causing it. Sure enough I feel that's what it is. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is the ingredient that makes Colgate and the other toothpastes foam up when you brush. I am allergic to it evidently as I've gotten cold sores, canker sores all over in my mouth and chapped lips. Also had dry mouth which I couldn't be without a sip of water when talking on the telephone. This toothpaste does NOT have that in it and yet has a decent taste of mint when you brush plus has all the floride that you need in a toothpaste. I will be buying more of this product. My canker sores have all cleared up along with the chapped lips and sores on them......they are gone.

Finally an answer to canker sores
by KBarry (5 out of 5 stars)

I have suffered from canker sores my whole life, so when I stumbled upon research about SLS being a possible cause, I decided to give Verve Ultra a try. I've used it for the past two months and haven't had any canker sores, which is great, but I thought could also just be a coincidence. That was until I bit my lip last week. In the past, whenever I've bit the inside of my lip or cheek, it has turned into a canker sore 100% of the time and this time it didn't! So now I am convinced that it has been the SLS all along and will keep using this toothpaste.

As other reviewers have said, it is a bit more runny or watery than regular toothpaste once you start brushing, but you get used to it. I also like the flavor much more than an SLS free sensodyne that I've tried, and it leaves your teeth feeling clean. Overall I am a very satisfied customer.

Wonderful!

What a lifesaver! I seemed to have developed a random allergy to mouth care products recently and couldn't put my finger on the culprit for the life of me, so I was stuck brushing with baking soda and foregoing everything else. No bueno in the long-term, obviously!

For those who might be experiencing something similar, I was developing mouth ulcers on my tongue and the insides of my mouth, and my lips and tongue were burning to the point that I couldn't eat or drink without pain. Eventually I realized that it might be my toothpaste. Sure enough, stopping the toothpaste (yuck, I know) healed my mouth. I went through probably five different toothpaste brands, trying to find the culprit, before I tried this SLS-free brand. Lo and behold, I'm probably two weeks in to a twice a day brushing routine with Verve and no pain! Praise the toothpaste gods.

ABOUT THE ACTUAL PRODUCT:

I really don't understand the negative reviews about consistency and difficulty squeezing. It takes a LITTLE more effort to squeeze the toothpaste out of this tube than, say, a tube of regular Colgate, but it's definitely not the an Olympic test of strength like many are making it out to be. However, it might be a little much for people with severe arthritis or other conditions that limit dexterity/strength/etc.

The consistency is thicker than Colgate, Arm & Hammer, and the like, and it takes a little longer to dissolve in my mouth and get that consistency I'm used to. Doesn't bother me, though.

The taste is great for me. Still minty and fresh but with a little less burning intensity than most mint-flavored pastes.

Leaves my mouth feeling clean and fresh.

I am officially a convert. Highly recommend! Feel free to ask questions if you wish.

Doesn't burn my mouth and seems to be helping
by Diane (5 out of 5 stars)

I debated between 4 and 5 stars because I still get a few canker sores. This isn't a cure, but it seems to have made a difference in how many I get and a general feeling of a healthy mouth. I've seen some complaints about the taste, but almost all other toothpastes burn my mouth. To me this is very mild and pleasant. Yes, it is thicker than most, but I like that because it's easier to deliver just a small amount (which is all anyone needs).

I had a dental cleaning after using this for a few days. It was a new hygienist and a she was a little rough. It doesn't take many slips or digs to destroy my mouth, and I was a mess for about a week. I would say that this toothpaste didn't prevent any of that from happening, or make them go away any quicker, but it also didn't set them on fire them when I brushed my teeth. Most of my sores seem to be stress induced, or they just viciously attack after a long period without them. So far so good. I have recommended this to my brother (same mouth genes as me) and also recommend that you try it. As my brother said, "I don't care how much it costs, I'll try anything on the chance it will work." Amen!

If you hate the way your morning orange juice tastes after brushing your teeth -- You need to try th
by Luke in Iowa (4 out of 5 stars)

If you've never tried SLS free toothpaste this stuff is a neat item to experience. It still tastes like mint toothpaste, but if you immediately go take a swig of orange juice or soda, the orange juice tastes just like orange juice and the soda tastes just like soda. The downside is that 1) it's hard to squeeze out of the tube and 2) it turns to a thin liquid in your mouth immediately. So it's much harder than 'real' toothpaste coming out of the tube and it's much more watery by the time you're done using it than 'real' toothpaste. The effect of not having your food taste horrible for an hour after you brush your teeth is worth it though in my opinion. I don't get canker sores in my mouth from regular toothpaste, so I can't say one way or another about this stuff. I just know that it's a welcome addition to my drawer full of grooming stuff.

Worked for stopping my canker sores
by Savannah Lomax (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this toothpaste because I kept getting canker sores so bad they were almost debilitating (especially on/under the tip of my tongue). I did some research and they said it may be an allergy to sls, so I thought, 'what have I got to lose?' I've been using it for over a month now and I haven't had a canker sore since, which is amazing since I was getting 2 or three at a time. It's definitely thicker than 'regular' toothpaste and it doesn't foam as much, but it really seems to have helped with my canker sores and at my recent dentist appointment my doctor said my teeth looked great so I'm sure this will be my go-to toothpaste in the future.

SLS Free But Does Include Flouride
by Katy Luther (5 out of 5 stars)
March 1, 2019

Great toothpaste! Mouth sores used to even wake me up at night with sharp pain. Now the sores are almost gone and no more pain. I am so glad to be getting rid of the mouth sores. Even my dentist was really no help about suggesting things to try except the old remedy, salt water, which really doesn't do much. Glad I checked the internet about pain from mouth sores and also checked Amazon for an SLS-free toothpaste. I am awaiting an SLS-free mouthwash from Amazon as well

not abrasive

I like a toothpaste to have a bit of abrasiveness to clean my teeth. This toothpaste has a lovely smooth texture but I could brush for 10 minutes and it still didn't make my teeth feel smooth.

On the expensive side, but no issues with product so far
by Tibor Ross (5 out of 5 stars)

Got this because I suffer from recurring canker sores, and I read that this has helped many people.. maybe not as a cure but it won't irritate any canker sores you already have like normal toothpaste can. I also don't get any burning sensation when brushing like I do with normal toothpaste (with SLS). I don't find that I have any issue with the fact that it doesn't foam, definitely does NOT just turn to water like someone else in the reviews said so I am unsure of what they meant. Probably one of the best tasting toothpastes I have tried.

Lid breaks off easily, but I love the stuff
by Rebecca Anne Haha (5 out of 5 stars)
December 11, 2016

Update: new lid design works great, very sturdy, no problems! Love this stuff!

The toothpaste itself is a 5 star product. My geographic tongue resolved after stopping SLS in my toothpaste. Unlike most SLS-free products however, Verve has fluoride. I don't find fluoride to be the poison that many consumers do, and was happy to find it included in this formula. The taste is perfectly toothpaste-y. My mouth feels clean.

The packaging has won the product's 3 star rating. I don't find the tube all that hard to squeeze, but I suppose being thrift I find the smaller amount dispensed with the usual pressure needed to squeeze a tube is a bonus for me. My complaint is with the lid. It is on a hinge, and the hinge broke before the bottle was even half empty. Even my kid's toothpaste, which is also hinged, and used by people with less developed motor skills than my own holds up for the duration of the tube. This lid broke right off, and now to keep the tube sanitary I have to gingerly try to snap it back together and hope for the best. I would much prefer a screw on lid, although maybe if I had arthritis I would say otherwise. But I know for a fact that other flip lids on toothpaste tubes (Tom's Silly Strawberry) hold up much better to rougher use.

I will still order this again :) I will also happily edit it if my next tube works better :D
