Air Plant Flying Jellyfish | |||||||

Product Description
This unique decorating idea displays 3 Air Plants Oxacana set in 3 Alphones Sea Urchins that are suspended by clear line. One Jellyfish measures 4 inches tall and 4 inches wide. The flying Jellyfish can be hung anywhere and are sure to be a conversation starter. Air Plants (Tillandsia) get their common name from the fact they don’t require soil. They are epiphytes, which attach to other plants or trees for support. Their roots are only used to anchor themselves and are normally removed during cultivation for aesthetics. They are not parasitic, instead they gather micro nutrients from the air and water in structures called trichomes on their leaves. As the plant dries the trichomes take on a white powder look. After watering the plant will return to a vibrant green. Air Plants must dry fully between watering because they are susceptible to rot if left wet to long. Some of these Air Plants will only bloom once, but after the bloom they can form up to 12 “Pupsâ€, or offspring, at their base. The main plant will slowly be on its way out, but the Pups will continue to thrive and will separate when mature. Air Plants prefer filtered sunlight as their natural home is under tree canopy. This makes them perfect house plants. Air Plant care is pretty simple. Upon arrival give your plants a good hour or two soak in a shallow bowl of water. Our plants are shipped on the drier side to avoid rot while in transit. Place the plants root/base side up and out of the water. The base is the area susceptible to rot if left wet to long. Over the course of an hour you will see the plant fill up and turn bright green. Once it is full, take the plants out, shake them gently to remove any excess water and let them dry before placing them in the terrarium. You can mist the plants a few times a week or repeat the soaking once a week or a combination of the two. Their needs will vary with their environment, but after a few weeks you will be able to read your plant like a book. Just remember the best thing you can do for your plant is to let it dry completely between watering. Air Plants like as much filtered sunlight as they can get. Anywhere within 8 feet of a window that gets light for the better part of the day will work. If that’s not possible they can live on artificial light, but the source has to be pretty close like a desk lamp. They like sleeping as much as we do so at least 6 hours of darkness per day will work and 10 would be ideal. As tempting as it is, use your Hinterland Trading Air Plant Fertilizer sparingly. Just a few pumps every other week when watering. As a special treat you can collect rainwater for your Air Plant, the nutrients in rainwater or pond water are more abundant than in the air or tap water, but this is not necessary.Features

Smaller than expected but still look great, hopefully the tentacles will grow out soon.
Update:
Cute idea, but moisture trapped under the shell killed off 2 of 3 plants. First one dried, so I assumed I was under misting. So soaking watering it was, these would dry for two days out of the shell, noticed dry leaves in another one yesterday, taken it out to investigate and the dry leaves were attached to rotting moldy bud (even the seemingly ok leaves were rotting at the root), that was 3 days after watering. One survivor is resting on a plate currently, but it did have moist lil outer leaves. Now, I do think it would've worked if the plants included were as big as pictured, lil young buds I got plopped way too deep in and were not as hardy as the medium one that had survived the ordeal. At this price, it is much better to get shells and much bigger plants separately.
Update: I've added a picture of other airplants that I own since people assume I have no idea how to take care of them. I've paid full price, item was smaller than expected, bulbs got way too much inside of the shell, probably humid summer didn't help, last plant of the bunch that I've kept out of the shell since is still alive. Overpaying for the design of the plants in the shells didn't work for me in my environment, but feel free to make your own purchase and share your options, I'm just a bit tired of being told I don't know how to take care of these plants.

These are so cute! I used some of those 3M removable clear hooks to hang them from the ceiling. Super easy. Lots of extra string for creating your exact height placement. I accidentally dropped one and the shell cracked in half so I super glued it back together. You can't even tell though. The picture is after the gluing.

So excited about these! They arrived in perfect condition, just needed a little soak like it says in the directions.
I have to admit they are smaller than I was expecting. I was torn between these and the smaller pink ones that were $13 and went with these because I thought (for $30) they were a good size. Mine are very tiny... but super cute and overall I am happy with them.

These are vert cute and came packaged very well. They do take more care than soak, dry and love though. Not any old water will work. Pond or rain water is recommended for the nutrient value. Well, I have a six year old grandson that is crazy about sea life and particularly jellyfish. At first glance, this looked perfect for him. However, after watching the video of the kind of care these really need, there is no way he will understand that they will die if not attended to. So, I now have 3 cute little air plants to nurture from here on out. Hope it rains tomorrow so I can collect some to make sure they get their nutrients. I like them and we will see if I have a green thumb.

What happened Hinterland Trading? Non-existent communication / customer service has prevailed.
One of the three plants (the runt) was in less-than-optimal health on delivery, and despite my green thumb, shriveled to nothing within a few months. This was a Christmas gift from my son, and I wanted to get it replaced before he noticed. No such luck.
I have emailed them twice without receiving a response, and have called their support number five times during normal business hours without reaching a human. I left a clear and distinct voice message, and have received no response as of this writing, which allowed several weeks for them to respond to both the voice mail and second email request.

Waste of money, bought it to gift husband.
The plant was all white and looks dead when arrived and never turned green as shown in picture.

Was hoping these would have worked out. The pictures looked cool and tried for 2 months to get these to grow. I tried watering and bought extra bottles of the food spray. None of it worked. They didn't provide any directions on how to properly grow and maintain this plant. I would not recommend.

These came right on time and excellently packaged! After soaking and hanging them, they look awesome! Like cute little jellies! However, they were surprisingly small. Mine measures approximately 3-4 inches in length (including the shell). I know these need more humid environments but these plants looked so cute that I couldn't resist! I live in a dorm and the air conditioner is nearby so hopefully these won't die on me!

I put these in my beach themed bathroom over the tub using on command stick ups. Guests just love the way they look. They are simple, eye catching, & couldn't be easier to take care of. They add a freshness to a room in my house that usually gets over looked.
