Charging connection/plug snapped off!!! =(
by Kaykay (1 out of 5 stars)

This is my 3rd Motorola MBP36S baby monitor. Each and everyone of them broke because the charging connection/plug is soldered so weakly it snaps off if you're not careful in attaching the charging cord to the monitor. I'm so irritated because this monitor is not cheap.

Be careful when buying this!

Don't make the same mistake I did! We have the MBP36S baby monitor that we purchased in 2016. I dropped the parent piece into the bath tub and needed to replace it. So I came here and bought the same monitor, same model number, to replace my water logged version. After trying to pair the device with our existing cameras, I had no luck. Called Motorola and they tell me that the new version of this monitor (same exact model number) isn't compatible with the previous models. They're only compatible with the new version. It got even more confusing from there...He said there's still older versions for sale and you can tell the version by the model number on the inside of the device under the battery. SO moral of the story is, there's no way when buying this monitor to know which version of the MBP36S you're getting. So if you're buying this to work with additional cameras, proceed with caution. Motorola - you really should have just changed the model number. Problem solved.

Not with the price at all

Got this back in July 2016. Less than a year later it's going bad. The monitor is dark unless your in a dark room. The charging cord is bad! An it makes a lot of noises that make me think it's going to blow up or something. I needed a product I could trust and this is not it! I will never buy one again!!!

Not the real Motorola MBP36S
by SAWESOME (1 out of 5 stars)

Don't waste your money! I am furious about this purchase. I already own the Motorola MBP36S as I received it from Buy Buy Baby as a baby shower present two years ago with my first child. Since I recently had my second child, I came onto Amazon and purchased the EXACT SAME MODEL so I could have one in each of my children's bedrooms. BOTH are Motorola MBP36S however this version from Amazon is NOTHING LIKE the first Motorola MBP36S model. The video quality is grainy, the graphics are horrible, and you have to push the buttons in different combinations to get functions like volume to work. As you can see in the picture, the packaging is a little different but the model number and description is identical. I strongly suspect a bait and switch approach. Motorola is selling an older version and trying to get rid of it. It's horrible. I am sending this back.

AWFUL PRODUCT ... DO NOT PURCHASE.

This product has a terrible battery life. After one month of use (this was a baby shower gift) the battery runs out within 20 minutes after being charged all night. Don't waste your money on this awful baby monitor. I would not recommend this product to anyone unless you ask what terrible baby shower gift you can purchase for someone.

Trust me, listen to the bad reviews (which I unfortunately did not).

UPDATE: Eleni from Motorola Customer Service commented on the below review. I have read reviews where dealing with Customer Service via phone has been a huge pain, but I felt the process via email was pretty standard, and Eleni always responded to me within the day (sometimes within the hour). They asked a number of questions verifying the issue, I had to send the receipt and serial #, etc. I was happy with the Customer Service experience. If you do need to contact CS, I would recommend email over phone from what other reviews have said.

They sent me a replacement unit quickly (I have the 2.8, it sounds like sometimes there is stock status issues with the 3.5?), and sent the replacement unit prior to me sending back the defective unit. However, they said the warranty on the replacement unit is only 90 days, vs 1 year for the original purchase. BEFORE there were power issues, I would rate this monitor 5 stars. So I'm just praying that the new units they ship out, knowing there is such an issue with the power port, has fixed the issue vs just sending out more of the same units with an obvious defect. Time will tell... I will update accordingly...

Changing my review from 1 start to 3 star, but would still caution on this monitor in hopes there aren't power problems.

I wish I would have listened to the poor reviews. Like any product on Amazon, you always have your 5 stars and then your miscellaneous "omg it's the worst product ever" 1 star reviews, even with items I like. There were... unfortunately... a lot more poor reviews than I normally would ignore. I knew someone else who got this monitor so let that trump the Amazon reviews (ironically, their monitor has since gone out as well).

The battery life even when it was "working" is terrible. The screen would glitch out all the time. Now, 10 months in, the last 2 months the power port is broken as a million other reviews have stated. We tried to work around it and have to get the cord "just right" and pulled at an angle, and put something heavy on the cord in order to get it to charge. Now that hardly works. Also, when the blue light is on that it's "charging," half the time it's not even charging any longer, and holds zero charge. I've had the monitor die on me multiple times in the middle of the night recently as it continues to deteriorate. I've been sleeping terrible (my kid is not a good sleeper, still has acid reflux) waking in a panic to look at monitor only to find yes, it is indeed dead.

There is a serious quality issue with the charging port, and I hope that Motorola listens to some of these reviews and takes it into account on future products.

I'm not having to buy a whole new monitor, and these things aren't cheap.... Good times.

I really liked it a lot
by Abigail Rubin (1 out of 5 stars)

I have had very mixed experience with this product. We initially bought one two years ago for my daughter. I really liked it a lot. It was good quality and had a lot of great features. Then when my son came along we bought another camera and that worked great. But like many of the reviews say, the plug started to malfunction and then it would not keep a charge and ultimately I was not able to use it anymore. And so I purchased this item, which is obviously a newer version, but is essentially the same monitor. I chose the model with a smaller screen and I thought that would be the only difference. But the overall quality and functionality of this version of the monitor is terrible. It's very difficult to use, some of the features that I came to rely upon and love were not really functional, and I also was not able to pair this monitor to my other cameras. I'm returning this item and have purchased a completely new set of monitors. I wish that this was a more reliable monitor because when it works it works great. But don't buy this version.

DO NOT BUY!!! DANGEROUS! SOUND CUTS OUT!
by Mama Row (1 out of 5 stars)
September 5, 2018

According to my Amazon account, I purchased this "exact" monitor in 2016 shortly after the birth of my son. That monitor is now over 2 years old & works fantastic. The clarity is great, the sound is great, I live on a 1/2 acre & can get pretty good range on most of my property. I also love the music options available. So when I gave birth to my daughter a few months ago in May 2018 I ordered what showed me to be the same monitor I purchased for my son. IT IS NOT THE SAME & IT IS HORRIBLE & DANGEROUS!!!! This monitor is completely fuzzy, my daughter just looks like a blob on the screen. There is no music but nature sounds which sounds nice in theory but they sound like they are coming from a broken music box, you have to hit the menu screen & then hit "OK" to select which option - example: you hit the sound option but have to then hit OK to actually get the volume options where as on the old monitor if you hit the sound option the volume options come up automatically without needing to hit OK. This may seem minor but when it is the middle of the night & you are trying to access what you need in the dark it's way more of hassle then you realize trying to hit more buttons. AND most importantly, THE SOUND CUTS OUT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. I was watching a movie with my husband & all of a sudden heard my daughters screams coming from her room but not from her monitor which was up to a level 2 on sound which is quite loud but nothing was coming out. Thankfully because I was in the living room I heard her, had I been in bed I would have not heard her which is mortifying as my daughter is a preemie so she still has gag reflex issues which causes her to scream. AS I TYPE THIS THE SOUND JUST CUT OUT AGAIN!!! I have a fan going in her room so I can tell when the sound goes out. I am so pissed off right now. This monitor is nothing like the one I bought in 2016, this is a piece of garbage & dangerous if something were to happen to my child & me not be able to hear because of the sound cutting out. I've never had to write a review like this. DO NOT BUY!!!

Great camera, picture clear, price is reasonable.
by AmazonCustomer (5 out of 5 stars)

Picture is clear(unlike the cheaper cameras I've tried) and you can see the baby decently well(even at night). It has speaker to talk to your baby, volume control to hear the baby, zoom control, a few lullabies(5 I believe) to play from the camera speaker, options to add/remove additional cameras, brightness control, temperature indicator to tell you how hot/cool the room is -- this temp control feature becomes red when it becomes too hot, I think at 85 degrees--, and timeout feature (5, 30, 60 mins). All in all, for the price and quality of image, this is a great camera.
